Cristina La Veneno, a spanish trans icon
i know i usually dont post anything of my own on here, but listen up. there’s this spanish series called ‘Veneno’, and it’s based on the life of Cristina ‘La Veneno’:
today, november 9th, marks 4 years since cristina passed away, and i wanted to post something to commemorate her. Cristina, or La Veneno, as most people know her by, was a spanish trans sex worker. she became famous in the 90s because she appeared on a late night tv show, and everyone loved her. she went on to do regular appearances on said tv show, and after that she kind of became a cultural icon. if you go on spanish twitter, your timeline will be filled with reaction images and gifs of her.
she is an icon to many spanish lgbt people, especially trans women. because of her, the fight and struggles of trans women were brought to light for the first time. she was far from perfect, but she is a very important part of spanish lgbt history.
as far as i know, all of the actresses in the series that play trans women are actually trans! and one of her longtime friends, Paca ‘La Piraña’, also stars in it
