So, ✨the challenge✨. This is something I have to tell you (plural) myself because none of the characters here know that they're an alternative universe and therefore don't know the differences between the OG and their world:
The challenge in The Odyssey was Penelope's last fuck you to the suitors who were invading her and her family's space. She'd marry whoever could string his husband's old bow (A PALINTONOS BTW) and shoot an arrow through 12 axes. Aka nobody (pun intended).
In the Reverse Character Arcs AU, however, uuh, well Pen doesn't really have a reason to do the challenge because the suitors are nice, don't break xenia in any way and they're all chillin (she's friends with them, Anti is her bestie).
So the roles are reversed. The suitors are not being challenged, the suitors are challenging Telemachus. Telemachus had begun training with Antinous (who wanted to teach him how to fight for self-defense purposes), and this challenge consisted of the 108 men all fighting against the prince at the same time to test his improvement.
Telemachus won by only showing up once it was dark, and the suitors were all scattered around the palace. He approached all of them individually and won every single fight (how Telemachus felt about it is another story). And then they all celebrated together.
Also, fun fact, the name of the chapter is Telemachus and the battle itself is supposed to parallel the song Odysseus in Epic. But without actually killing the suitors lmao.
