     he’s moving even before all of the words had finished, settling himself down beside charles. closeness had never been an issue between them, even whenever they were at odds. those times, though more enemies than not, things were far more complicated than what it appeared on the outside. the two of them had numerous ups and downs throughout the years. despite it all, that history between the two of them could never be erased. “it’s not quite that.” erik is fully aware of how they’ve been dancing around all of this for far too long now. they’re both at fault for it in the end. “i just – these matters are… difficult for me,” he admits softly, gaze flickering away from charles. “we know how things have ended in the past. but i’m willing to have this conversation.” 

charles nods along to erik’s explanation.  all totally understandable.  there have been times when the distance that grew between them seemed impossible to overcome.  whatever they had before had seemed impossible, a fantasy at most.  but now that things are going well, it’s a genuine possibility.  and that, somehow, makes it feel that much more terrifying.  there is something to mess up again.  it’s been a long time since there was anything left between the two of them to get wrong.  if everything’s wrong, what more is there to lose ??  there is so much to lose now.  

charles watches the side of erik’s face intently when he mentions the difficulty of these matters.  and it reminds him so much of the erik he first met, a shining star threatening to collapse in on itself.  these matters have always been difficult for erik, and there was a time that charles knew how to push through that, how to offer erik adoration without scruples.  “ erik, ” charles begins, gentle and strong all at once, “ we intend to offer everyone a chance to leave the past behind here.  we’re offering forgiveness to even the worst among us.  can we not -- can’t we offer that to each other, too ?? ” charles takes one of erik’s hands in both of his and fixes his gaze on the couple of scars erik wears on his knuckles.  “ forget the past.  what do you see in the future ?? ”

      for as long as the two of them have known one another, erik isn’t foolish enough to think he could get around lying whenever it came to charles. even with the helmet on, they just knew one another far too well. he hadn’t bothered changing from his more normal clothing, or bothered with the helmet. it wasn’t needed at the moment, after all. and besides, he trusted the other enough not to invade his privacy without permission. there was no reason to break that. not here. “not quite.” a simple shrug as he shifts closer. “i think we both know that isn’t the case, even if you haven’t been in my head.” he’s not certain of what to say, or what to admit to. his initial thoughts on talking could easily have been misguided. “i was hesitant to speak, if i’m to be completely honest.”

charles decides that erik’s honesty has earned him some leeway.  in all sincerity, charles feels a sort of matching anxiety about this.  he knows what he wants to say, what he wants to ask for, but all of the sudden the words dry up in his mouth.  why is it so difficult?  “ come sit with me, ” charles requests, frustrated by the distance.  “ can i ask you what it is making you hesitate ??  i didn’t mean for this to be a conversation for you to dread, or even to worry about.  i just..feel as though we’ve been dancing around this conversation for...for a while, truly. ”

    no, he most certainly had not been stalling to see charles since his return. absolutely not. the mention of talking was hardly something that would give erik pause, given that he had a bit of an idea where said conversation might end up. no matter how he may appear to others, there was always something about charles that made him act the complete opposite of the norm. eventually erik knew he needed to see charles, and after a bit of ( not ) stalling, he decided to finally go and find the other. they had matters to discuss, after all. “charles, it’s good to see you.”/ @telepathyys

   charles, truthfully, doesn’t know what he was thinking when he suggested they talk upon erik’s homecoming.  and charles has to pause for a moment to think of how nice it is to consider this a homecoming.  the pleasant warmth that comes with the implications of that helps put charles at ease just a little.  and the knowledge that erik has been stalling is funny somehow, instead of troublesome.  charles keeps his distance from erik’s mind without explicit permission, but that doesn’t stop him from picking up on the others who have seen erik around.  “ was your trip delayed ?? ” charles asks, a picture of innocent curiosity.  “ i was expecting you a while ago. ”

“It’s always good t’see you.” The mutant greets with a smile spread over his lips, knowing it might be a surprise to see him HERE. He was proud of being an X-MAN, always loyal to them through the years even if he had the responsibility of leading the thieves guild dropped in his lap some time ago. Finally with freedom to do what he wants to some extent leaves him wanting to visit. Remy doesn’t sit, just standing there in his familiar purple x-suit. He glances at the door shutting, and then back to Charles. “Who said dat I NEEDED somethin’? I grew bored, and just wanted ta come by n’see everyone! Which includes you!” The happy expression still on his features, bright red eyes looking on at the older man.

there’s something so genuine about gambit that charles can’t help his answering smile, wide and unencumbered by the stress of the day.  he just lets himself appreciate that it’s good to see remy.  “ i’m not used to meetings for pleasure these days, is all, ” charles says apologetically.  “ please, make yourself comfortable, it’s good to see you.  i’ve been meaning to pick your brain a little, anyway.  metaphorically, of course. ”

   “ jean, do you have a moment ?? ” charles asks without preamble.  the smile on his face, however, serves as a softer greeting.  as always, seeing jean fills charles with a certain hope.  few among them have endured what jean has endured and come out the other side still so full of kindness.  in that way, she offers an important perspective in the world to come.  momentarily, charles is distracted when the wheel of his chair gets slowed down by the soft and dense landscape, but the ground under him quickly responds in kind, smoothing out.  charles reaches out to krakoa with his mind to offer a gentle thanks before returning his attention to jean.  “ i was hoping to get your insight on something i’ve been planning. ”

   charles has to choose his words carefully here -- jean-phillipe is unique among the many mutants && near-mutants that charles has met in his many years.  and there’s always a level of discomfort, seeing someone who’s body you recently possessed.  at least, it’s uncomfortable now.  charles hasn’t had the experience often enough to make any generalizations.  “ i’m glad t see you’re back.  how are you feeling ?? ”

“You’re looking for the wrong clawed person.” Daken says flatly, not even bothering to turn and look at Xavier. Whatever it is the man wants here, whatever’s brought him to seek Daken out - he’s not interested. Especially considering Logan’s the one who gets sucked into Xavier’s whole hero-soaked world. Daken would much prefer to stay out of it. “And for what it’s worth I don’t know where he is. You’re wasting your time.”

charles barely manages to keep from chuckling.  it’s not an unexpected reaction -- daken is naturally prickly.  “ perhaps i wasn’t looking for you at all, ” charles says with an unaffected shrug.  of course, charles hadn’t happened upon daken by accident, but there’s nothing terribly urgent.  there are just certain faces charles thinks he should see before any official announcements are made.  “ i know where logan is already, anyway.  i wouldn’t waste your time with something as simple as a manhunt for someone i could just as soon call. ”

     a small nod is giving in concession. charles isn’t wrong, he has always had a bit of a talent with that. erik certainly didn’t need to read a person’s mind in order to understand them. a skill that came in handy as a leader, one he was grateful came naturally. “certainly. though i’ve known you for a great many years. hardly a surprise i know you so well.” the fact that charles knows erik just as well is left unsaid. it’s obvious, even without the mind reading. gaze roams over the bottle for a moment, allowing himself to relax a bit more. “i could go for one. think we could allow ourselves to enjoy the small victories so far.”

   charles considers the length of time they’ve shared, in some capacity or another.  he pours a generous glass for erik and holds it out to him as he pours his own.  “ what we’ve done so far is no small victory.  what we’ve done is revolutionary. ” erik knows that, of course, but it bares mentioning regardless.  “ and, anyway, this drink is to celebrate what i think might be the longest we’ve gone without an argument. ”

    “ remy, ” charles greets, and there’s some surprise in his voice.  it’s not that it’s completely out of the ordinary for charles and remy to cross paths, but it’s less often that gambit stops by of his own volition.  “ to what do i owe the great pleasure ?? ” he asks curiously.  more and more uncommon these days, charles even goes so far as to remove cerebro and sit it down on his desk.  he maneuvers out from behind his desk and closes his office door to avoid the prying eyes of whatever children wander by.

     ah, there it is. that deep hatred for, more or less, an inanimate object. never ceases to bring a faint smirk to erik’s features. he may be fully aware of the other’s feelings on it, though it hardly stops him. still, for the moment he can concede. hands reaching up for the helmet, he slides it off, carefully lowering it to the desk. his mind still shouldn’t be an issue, erik had worked decades to build up his walls enough. at least he could offer some silence, even if it could be broken  should charles, or any other telepath, desire. “i can hardly read minds, charles. not considered a talent if i don’t posses such a power. i can only ever do so when you grant me that permission.” 

  charles’ smile turns soft for a moment when erik concedes and removes the helmet.  he looks away after a few moments of marveling.  little concessions still surprise charles, pleasantly of course.  he has a thousand more thoughts on the matter, and it’s incredibly lucky that erik isn’t a mind-reader.  “ you’re good at intuiting things about people, though.  and you know me better than most. ”  charles rifles around in the bottom drawer of his desk, draws out two crystal tumblers and a bottle of amber liquid.  “ do you feel like a drink ?? ”

   charles scribbles down a final note before turning his attention fully to the other.  “ bruce wayne, ” he begins, choosing each of his words carefully.  “ i need your help. ”  that’s not precisely true.  charles thinks they could probably accomplish the task without the assistance of wayne enterprises, but there would be a lot more guess work and substantial overhead.  and -- charles is networking, of course.  there’s no denying that the man is a powerful ally to have; his word carries meaning.  that kind of gravitas thrown vaguely in the direction of charles’ budding cause could change a few minds without as much careful telepathic influence.  “ you have more global reach than even my most social friends; i’d like to talk to you about a problem i’m having.  see if you can help me find a solution. ”

    “ tell me, lorna -- have you found yourself idle lately? ” charles asks, resting his chin against steepled fingers.  he knows no one is exactly idle, but this strange idea of theirs means there’s less time spent with respective teams than usual.  he imagines the more capable and powerful among them are going to grow restless.  “ scott has been leading his x-men in tracking down some group of radical scientists -- but i’m afraid that means our attention has strayed from some other unsavory groups.  i need someone to follow up on some activity with the church of humanity.  you’d be welcome to take a couple others with you, of course. ”

Generally you’d look at a largely empty space and think hey. maybe there’s a reason it’s empty, I guess I should stay away. Except Dick’s never really been good at staying away from potentially harmful situations, and all he can see is a man casually reading in the middle of the park like it’s another normal day. Sure, this guy could turn out to be any kinda dangerous threat, but.. maybe not, right? Besides, if there’s something wrong with this place he’d rather find out and do something about it than stick his head in the sand.

Coming closer, he feels something a little… strange. Something he hasn’t felt in a while, mostly as a result of not being in the field for a while. And it’s subtle, it could just be his imagination - that is, until he feels something probing at his mind, and he knows this isn’t just your average empty park. This guy might not even be your average man, all things considered. “Oh yeah, it’s a lovely day. Just the kinda day where you’d expect to see people enjoying such nice park like this.” Dick comments equally mildly, glancing over at the man. “Must be enjoying the peace and quiet though?”

charles gestures from himself to the young man with an easy, disarming smile.  “ and here you and i are, enjoying the park on a lovely day.  just as one must expect.  comforting when things go the way we expect, isn’t it ?? ”  which is probably the creepiest way to say it, but charles is hardly paying attention to diction, he’s more curious about feeling out the edges of this boy’s psychic shield.  

of course, charles has no real interest in busting through it, just feeling it’s hypothetical strength.  charles manages to curb his curiosity for now, though.  no reason to raise any alarms by being nosy.  “ the quiet is a nice reprieve.  i run a school; peace is usually a fantasy at best. ”

     gaze peers carefully at the other, silent if only for the moment. he knows full well how much charles had pushing himself as of late. sacrifices were necessary in these designs, though it hardly helped the concern that bristled just below the surface. “i wouldn’t quite know. not one of my many talents.” faint, amused smile pushes up the corners of his lips. “if you need some reprieve, perhaps focus on a bit of silence right now.” finger lightly taps against the helmet, much a part of him as anything else. “you need a small break, at the very least.”

   charles levels a glare at the helmet, like it’s done something to personally offend him.  “ erik, that is not a bit of silence.  that’s the telepathic equivalent to driving into wall at sixty miles per hour, ” he says sourly, but a smile finds its way to his face anyway.  if it were a bit of silence, charles might not hate it so much.  -- he still would, actually, strike that.  “ wait, are you admitting there’s a talent that you don’t possess ??  how unlike you, erik. ”

   are you ready to meet your new gods, charles xavier ??  

- this is mostly comic based with a little bit of influence from the xmcu  - okay, so i’ll keep this as quick as possible.  early life: charles’ father died when charles was young.  his mother remarried.  the man she remarried was abusive towards charles’ mother and his own son, cain.  cain, in turn, took it out on charles.  there were a couple accidents involving a ten year old charles’ budding telepathic abilities that caused cain to hate him even more.  - eventually his mom died, his stepfather got a lot worse, and charles went off to school.  he got doctorates from harvard and oxford in genetics and biophysics where he began to study the mutant gene.  he briefly met logan and victor creed during his time at university, though he denied their attempt to create a group of mutants to resist the mutant imprisonment going on under wraps in the U.S. government.  - at oxford, charles met his first love moira mactaggert ( her maiden name is kinross, but idk if marvel is still using that ).  they fell in love, yadda yadda.  engaged to be married.  he was unaware at the time that moira was a mutant.  - charles and his step brother cain marko are drafted into the korean war.  cain defects, charles attempts to bring him back.  it’s during that trip that his step brother becomes the juggernaut!  - moira breaks off their engagement. - charles travels to egypt where he meets a young ororo for the first time!  he also meets a handful of meany head mutants and decides then to devote his life to stopping mutants from abusing their powers and pursuing peaceful coexistence with humans.  rip to magneto but hes different :/ - xavier takes a trip to israel, briefly volunteers at a center for traumatized holocaust survivors.  meets gabrielle haller and erik lehnsherr ( wow, two loves ).   - xavier falls in love w/ gabrielle.  teams up with erik, they realize their views may be incompatible but develop a long-lasting friendship. - when xavier and gabrielle split amicably, neither of them realize she’s pregnant.  but a few months later she gives birth to charles’ son, david haller! - during some adventures to follow, charles is severely hurt by an enemy claiming to be an alien (it’s complicated).  it’s this point where he becomes disabled.   - eventually, charles, erik, and moira work in tandem to create xavier’s school, meant to serve mutant children and give them a safe place to learn and control their powers!  ideally a place where mutants dont have to live in fear. - charles and erik will split again at the creation of erik’s brotherhood, once again citing incompatible views.  - decades of shit happen.  he takes care of some mutants, forms a few iterations of xmen teams.  blah blah blah yall know - erik and charles clash over erik’s genoshan army.  - listen, at some point, charles was like engaged to the alien lilandra......... boy gets around for someone as ugly as he is.  she ends it w/ him after the attack of his ‘evil twin’ cassandra nova.  let’s not look at that too hard tbh - genoshan genocide happens - charles tries to help a comatose scarlet witch, cannot.  house of m happens. - some time later, charles is kicked out of his own institute because a previous dishonesty regarding the death of some mtuant children comes to light.  the breach of privacy causes cyclops to ask him to leave. its a mess.  - charles is killed when the phoenix force takes over scott summers.  tbh.....he kinda deserved it. - some stuff happens.  charles borrows a body, then builds a new one.  - has since reconnected with moira, who’s somewhere into her ninth life.  her insight into possible outcomes of the mutant cause help radicalize charles, finally.  he begins the process of making krakoa habitable for mutants.  develops three wonder drugs from krakoan flowers to use as leverage in the coming months. - currently teamed up w/ erik Finally and committed to the same ideal, that mutants should have their own home, totally out of the reach of humans.  he’s bein a bad bitch, finally, thanks you old bald bitch.

    it’s a nice break, really, enjoying the sun and sketching out a new regimen of classes for what’s soon to be a class triple the size of usual.  he’s determined, no matter how radical this move is, that the children should still have some sort of normalcy in their lives.  they’ll still need to learn.  his school serves some of the most gifted minds on the planet, and he’d be a fool to let those brains sit around stagnant.  good god, look what an absolute monster boredom had turned that quire boy into.  absorbed as he is in the work ( hardly work ), it’s all the more startling to realize there’s company in this little park. 

        even more startling that he didn’t sense company.  there’s a chance, even, that charles has been intermittently putting out the suggestion that any park-goers find a less serene corner of the world and leave charles to his day.  ethical?  perhaps not totally.  but a man deserves a moment of quiet.  the only explanation is that this boy is unaffected by gentle suggestions.  curious.  just to check, charles prods very slightly at the young man’s mind and is surprised to find a significant amount of resistance there.  hm.  “ nice day, isn’t it ?? ” charles asks mildly, tries to hide his intrigue.  “ surprising how few people are out and about, with weather like this. ”

     charles is quiet as he removes cerebro.  incredible, though the tool is, it’s not exactly the most comfortable fashion accessory.  he doesn’t know how exactly erik’s been doing it for decades.  and with hair, too.  brave soul.  he sits the device down on his desk gingerly and squeezes the bridge of his nose.  “ am i being ridiculous, or is it exceptionally loud today ?? ”  it’s probably more to do with the process of exerting more telepathic force than he’s used to, honestly.  it’s been a strenuous week to say the least.
