I listened to the man on the cross the day before visiting a basilica famous for its woodcarvings, including (in the entrance hall no less) a particularly harrowing crucifix, which really added a certain immersive aspect to the whole listening experience. i don’t think the tour guide understood why I was glaring at it

It was the Basilica of St. James, near where I’m holidaying in Levoča! I couldn’t find any pictures online of the crucifix I’m talking about, but I can offer you some shaky shots I took when no-one was looking.
