New Music Tuesday: Skylar Spence “Can’t You See”
Skylar Spence (or the artist formerly known as Saint Pepsi before the beverage company threatened him with legal action) is back at it with his disco beats.  He’s finally set to release a full length album this September labeled “Prom King”.  But fans got a taste of what’s to come with single “Can’t You See” which was released today.  And quite honestly, it could be the anthem of the summer. With heavy synth lines infused with disco goodness, it’s impossible to not groove to this song.  Give the song a listen on his soundcloud and check out the upcoming tracklist here.

Throw Back Thursday- Bee Gees
Ahhh, the Bee Gees.  A band that not only paved the way for the disco era, but gave us karaoke classics including “Stayin’ Alive” and “How Deep Is Your Love”.  With over 220 million records sold world wide, they’re one of the world’s best selling music artists of all time.  The only artists that have outsold them? The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks, and Paul McCartney.
Starting as a pop band in 1958, members Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb didn’t see real success until the late 1960′s and early 1970′s.  The family began performing as a band for pocket change before being introduced to popular Australian radio DJ Bill Gates (NOT the billionaire you’re thinking of.) Gates renamed them to “The BG’s”, later to be changed to “Bee Gees”.
The band performed throughout the sixties but didn’t sign onto a record label until 1967 with Polydor & Atco Records. They saw great commercial success spanning over four albums before breaking up for a short period at the end of the 60′s. However, a reunion brought the band back together in 1973 and they went on to record the soundtrack for “Saturday Night Fever”.  Three songs off the album “Stayin’ Alive”, “Night Fever”, and “How Deep Is Your Love” hit US No. 1 and are credited to prolonging the disco era.
The band stayed together until Maurice’s sudden death in 2003.  Barry and Robin retired the group’s name, but announced in 2009 to play under it once again.  However, Robin died in May of 2012 after a prolonged battle with cancer, leaving Barry the only living member today. You can still step into a time machine though and listen to a playlist of their funky jams here.Â
SYRE- Burn ft. Kendra Dias
New Music Tuesday- Uppermost “New Moon” EP
The French obviously know what they’re doing when it comes to laying down great dance tracks.  Nu disco producer Uppermost proves that once again with his latest EP release, “New Moon”.  The six tracks included are a dazzling mix of electronic music with a hint of funk and soul. The EP is Uppermost’s first release since April 2014, and can all be listened to on his soundcloud here.
