“Glow.” Hekate made a face, she often put the knowledge of that little detail far from mind, the look of it reminding her far too much of her lusus, but right now she couldn’t ignore that it would help. She took a breath as her body slowly illuminated with a white glow, revealing the features of her home.
“Is that better, Aristi? And don’t worry about it. It was kind of cute.” She pulled her thin lips into a wide grin, trying to lighten the mood as well as their surroundings. “Sorry I scared you.”
Hekate didn’t look at though she enjoyed the term, but then again as the party who had been skulking around in the shadows like some kind of monster, Aristi didn’t seem too bothered by it. She squinted a bit as the glow came, and she nodded in response.
“Yes, it is better.” The jade nodded, still looking less than amused. “And you’re fine. I suppose I could have been more cautious. In any case, how long have you been out here? You’ve practically been gone for several months.” She huffed, nudging the other woman in the ribs. “In either case, if we’re going to leave and make it to the town, it should be soon.”
Hekate made a face as she put together how long she'd been away, and the elbow to her chest helped drive the point. "As long as I have been gone. I came straight here. I am sorry." She leaned forward, kissing her companion's forehead with a look that begged forgiveness. After a moment she nodded. "Of course. The sooner we are there the sooner we are away from mother. Let's go and you can scold me while we walk~"
Hekate strode through the cave, grabbing a few things as she moved, long legs carrying her quickly to the entrance.

“I think my lusus grounded me, but everything is fine now… The snake… Yeah, the snake. That is Laukei’s.” Hekate smiled and moved toward Ariste, touching her cheek then linking arms with her.
“It isn’t that dark to me, I am sorry. You didn’t spot a glowing ball that makes your ears ring on your way in, did you?” She looked around, looking for any signs of her lusus, not wanting to expose Ariste to the orb of pain and bad manners. “We should probably go, just in case… She isn’t pleasant…”
“Laukei…. he lives in the boat I guess?” She asked, standing firm as the other woman touched her. If anything, she was still a bit skeeved after the sort of horror-show lead up she had been exposed to.
“Can’t you glow? And no I really had not seen anything of the sort. But fine. We can make our way to the town in that case.” She nudged the woman. “Too far to walk back to my place before day breaks… Are you sure you’re okay? I didn’t mean to hit you with the ball..”

What was she doing? Hekate tilted her head as she mused over Ariste’s actions, watching her fumble with the staff and break a bobble free. It didn’t once cross her mind that her matesprit couldn’t see her in such a dark cave, and she was caught by surprise when the glowing orb struck her in the head then bounced to the floor, rolling away from her slippered feet.
Her first reaction was a small “oof” before raising her hand to rub where the trinket had struck her, squinting one eye. “That hardly seemed necessary, dear.” She made a face before bending down to pick up the orb, holding it for a moment before realizing that they were standing in a pitch black cavern and none of her sconces were lit. Her eyes focused a moment on the orb then to Ariste, her face seemed to make the sting of the small bop fade and Hekate couldn’t keep herself from smiling. “You found my cave on your own? It is odd to see anybody in here other than Laukei.”
Aristi’s features relaxed when she saw the orb smack against her matesprit’s face. She had to restrain herself from scolding the woman for skulking around in the dark, but instead she just resigned herself to sticking her tongue out at Hekate.
“You’re the one prowling around a dark cave. For all I knew, I was being stalked by a bear or some other kind of beast. Also did you know there’s a giant snake in the canyon outside?” She half-asked, looking over her shoulder before giving the woman a brilliant smile. “I did that thing with the crystal to find my way here… sort of. There’s also a fishing village about 2 miles out that talk a cursed cave out this way. So…” The jade gave an apologetic shrug.
“Either way. I got worried and came looking… everything is okay… right?”
"I think my lusus grounded me, but everything is fine now... The snake... Yeah, the snake. That is Laukei's." Hekate smiled and moved toward Ariste, touching her cheek then linking arms with her.

At this point, she was well aware she was… not alone at least. Granted, many types of things tended to skulk around in caves… many things that would probably take a bite out her if they were aware of her.
Furrowing her brow, she squinted. This was some kind of advanced darkness. Normally she didn’t have much issue seeing in the dark, but in this case, aside from the light from the orbs, she couldn’t see a thing. Oh… that was an idea. Scratching under her nose, she reached up and pulled one of the orbs from the staff, popping the string loose with a small ‘snap’ as she rolled it in her hand.
Then without warning, she hucked the ball in the direction of the breathing. Hoping to illuminate whatever was stalking her and hopefully stun it long enough for her to make a break for it.

Woops
This isn't my personal blog.

She leaned on her staff as she made her way further into the cave. She could hear sounds deeper inside, but who knew what that could be. Muttering under her breath, she fumbled in her satchel trying to find a lighter… or anything that could make more light. Even though she had excellent night vision, the interior entrance of the cave seemed black as pitch, and the dim orbs hanging from the stick did little to light more than a few feet around her.
“Er… hello? Is anyone here?” She called out, her voice rasping a bit. The cold had done well to completely dry out her throat, and she wasn’t about to pause in a spooky cave to take a drink. Yanking her hand from the sack, she held the staff with both hands, preparing herself to go further into the cave as she did exactly that.
The plodding now had a voice. It was a troll? Or something that could pretend to be a troll at the very least. But something about the voice was all too charming. It didn’t sound quite right, but the tone was exact.
Far too giddy to bother calling back, Hekate stormed down the length of the hall, unphased by the dark as she had been standing in it for so long and finally when she could make out the form of //her// she slid to a stop, leather slippers skidding across the soft dirt of her home. She peered at the woman with a comforted smile, still forgetting to do much more than breathe to announce her presence.
letotrolls:
It had been a… it felt like months but that probably wasn’t right. She had always been garbage at remembering dates, especially remembering the passage of time. However she was sure it had been a longer-than-normal span of time since she last saw her matesprit.
She never had an exact idea where the woman lived, but she had a rough idea. A cave in a chasm with a boat wedged between the two cliffs… how hard could that be to find?
As it turned out, in a frozen wasteland… very hard.
But after a few nights, she came across the cave. Or at least she hoped it was the right cave. The last mistake led her into a den of bears who were absolutely delightful save for the fact they were fucking bears. But she sidled her way down the cliff to the cave… cautiously making her way inside just in case there happened to be any more vicious denizens.
Hekate rubbed the heel of her hand against her forehead as she groaned. She knew she was filling an order originally, and by the full bottles that nearly occupied the entirety of her work-room, she was sure she had done at least that.
“But... I don’t really live here anymore, do I?” She drew her palm down her face, dragging her eyes and mouth down and open for a moment before taking another look around. “Did I move in with... No no. If I lived up there with him he’d have been down here finding me before any dust could settle...” She squinted for a moment, trying to remember where she should have been, certain it wasn’t here. Hear. She heard something. Perhaps her stomach growling? It was certainly empty, but know. It was the plodding of feet against the dirt floor of her cave. Honestly it seemed a miracle nothing had shown up while she was in her little daze.
She forced herself to stand, becoming more and more aware of her hunger now that it had crossed her mind. Her fingers traced the small blade hanging from her hip for a moment before she lurched forward, stumbling the first few steps before managing to take up a long stride, hurrying from this back chamber and forward towards the entrance.
I also miss this.

Good news
Hekate’s eyes focused ahead of herself, hands steadily going through the motions she had begun to repeat as though a machine. A hand scanned over the table ahead of her and she jumped as she knocked a bottle over, sending it tumbling to the ground.
“Oh...” Her voice was scratchy, more so than usual due to the lack of use and the fumes coming from her work. She blinked a few times, pulled from her trance as she knelt down to catch the bottle as it still rolled. She squinted at the cobwebs that had formed under the legs and rested her hands on her knees.
What was she doing again? She gave a huff as she tried to remember. Why was her cauldron so full? And what was the bitter nonsense it was full of? Her nose wrinkled as she stood up, looking around and touching her face. Far too warm. A soft grunt escaped her lips as she quickly deduced the culprit.
“Mother...”
She reeled back from the table, her knees feeling stiffer than even a moment before as her mind returned to her. A few stumbled steps and her bottom “paffed” into the leather chair against her wall.
