having Big E as a favourite character sounds like it should be a red flag, and maybe to some it is. but god i am just. extremely enchanted by this specific archetype of. "corrupted messiah" / tyrant that takes it upon themselves to steward their charges, through any means necessary.
like i am 100% absolutely certain that he is motivated by a deep, fundamental love for Humanity, as a whole. Love for their capacity for brilliance, love for their capacity for beauty and knowledge. a significant chunk of the Imperial Palace is a repository of Humanity's entire history, ranging from priceless works of art, to milestones of human achievement over the ages. The Palace ITSELF is a monument to what Humanity can offer, a vast mix to showcase architectural styles over the ages. The Emperor LOVES them, he HOARDS these things. He considers them precious and priceless.
he is also fundamentally Outside of humanity. he stands Apart, and, ultimately, Above them all. He may love them deeply, as a whole, but he has no trust in them whatsoever. No trust in their free will to be capable of forging a path in the Galaxy for themselves without tumbling into total annihilation.
And to him, tyranny is the only answer. He knows it best for them. He can guide them into a future worth living in. Stamping out the dissenters, the rebels, it matters not - he is doing this for the Greater Whole, after all.
Like, i love this. i LOVE this. the sheer HUBRIS. I am aware he is more often a plot device rather than a character, but there IS a very peculiar sort of character sitting in there.
@bispecsual do not leave these in the tags!!!!
Honestly what’s even worse isn’t even that he refuses to accept the negative it’s that he smothers the positive too. He’s got a dragon’s trove of historical treasures that he hoards like Trazyn but the imperium he built crushes the things in people that made the things he seemingly loves. How many Gentileschis, Da Vincis, Angelous, Mozarts, etc died impoverished and starving on a hive world never having seen the sky let alone a sunrise? What time is there for passion and art in the unfeeling machinery of the Imperium? What times is there for community and care and growth? Even back before the Heresy, countless trillions of people who could’ve known lives of passion and genius and utter astonishing LOVE were ground to dust and meat in the name of galactic conquest. Because one guy swore He knew better and crushed anything and everything that tried to stop Him. Because he deluded himself into thinking the ends justify the means, that every incalculable loss of human life would pay off in the end when He finally won.
If there’s one thing that’s true about this man in all his mystery and subterfuge and “plan within a plan within a plan” nonsense it’s that he’s a fucking hypocrite. “Oh the Eldar nearly destroyed themselves because their galaxy-spanning empire got so high on their own supply it birthed a chaos god?….. well you see MY galaxy-spanning super duper Cool Guy™ empire will be DIFFERENT.” Am I rolling my eyes loud enough for you to hear it through the screen? 😂 Oh what irony that the final boss of “Reddit Atheism” is so up his own ass he decided to reenact the Titanomachy but worse. Yes, guy who projects himself as a 15ft tall man with cheekbones that could cut glass and a flaming golden halo, I TOTALLY believe you don’t have a god complex and you’re not a ticking time bomb of karmic Armageddon. I’m so sure nothing about this Machiavellian shit you’ve got going on that you never told anybody else the whole of will go off without a hitch… because we all know that the best laid plans of mice and men- *red dot appears on my chest* HAHAHA ALWAYS GO 1000% CORRECTLY AND NOTHING BAD HAPPENS EVER!!
‘Tis peak, I fear. Nobody is out here doing it like him, and by “it” I mean irreparably fucking up everything and haunting the narrative ✨💅🏽✨
I fucking love this video
Hey can you guys reblog Cheeseburger so he can take a sunbeam nap on lots of blogs. No other reason I just want you guys to see him.
So, Cheeseburger died on November 21st after an unfairly short battle with an unfairly rare cancer that is rarely seen in cats. I only got to spend a month with him after his diagnosis, and losing him has been the greatest heartbreak of my entire life so far. He was my best friend and my soul cat, and he was there for me when I was completely alone, for twelve long years.
I made this transparent PNG the night he died in preparation for one of the many ways I was going to memorialize him--a surface rug in his likeness that I planned on laying directly in the line of his favourite sunbeam. And I uploaded that PNG here, because this is the website where people post their cats.
I was not expecting the reception I got. Many people have pointed out that this post has more reblogs than likes, and how insane that is in 2025 when reblog culture is at an all time low. I didn't even talk about the fact that Burger passed away in the original post, it wasn't a tearjerker reblog bait or anything like that. People just loved Burger that much, in the same way I fell in love with him at first sight. He was such an ugly kitten.
Anyways, it's really special to me that so many people have reblogged my best friend. I made this PNG to memorialize him in a completely different way, and you all wound up doing just that in ways I never even imagined.
Thank you. Wherever he is, I know the sun is shining.
there's literally nothing more radical in 2026 than believing that humanity can become good news for each other and the only world we'll ever share.
CREATURE WITH A KNIFE
this is a love story
Japanese is an incredibly fun and rewarding language (if you’ve ever wanted to learn it for ANY reason, most importantly including the “silly” reasons) but the fearmongering and capitalist intervention involved in the language learning process have given it a reputation as an “impossible task” for English speakers, leading to confusion and dkn learners and weird pessimist attitudes about the whole thing. In this thread I will explain how to effectively learn and retain Japanese. This is a tried, tested and true method; probably 99% of all people who try to learn Japanese give up, but everyone I’ve met who has tried and stuck with this has been at or above N3-N4 after 6 months or less including me
You can teach yourself Japanese for free if you have a little free time every day and a computer
1. Drill yourself on hiragana and katakana. These are the phonetic building blocks of Japanese, think of them as equivalent to english letters. This site is a good resource in general. Once you have a solid grasp on this, DO NOT LINGER HERE; move to step 2. You will master kana later.
2. Download Anki. This is a flashcard service. They have a paid app if you’re willing to invest for it, but if not, they have a mobile website (create an account and sync it with your computer).
This is the deck you’re going to download. Import it to Anki and do this every day. I have learned the hard way (twice) that skipping this is bad. If you become overwhelmed, you can change the number of new cards and reviews by clicking the cog next to the name of the deck!
3. Cure Dolly (Youtube, grammar) + transcript. She has kind of a posh accent, you might want to turn subtitles on. Watch a few videos when you feel like it but most importantly set up 4 and 5 as soon as possible
4. Yomitan (must have) is a browser extension that functions as a pop-up dictionary. you need to install dictionaries for it to work. here are some dictionaries you can use with yomitan and explanations of what they do
5. READ. DO NOT LET YOURSELF GET STUCK BEFORE THIS STEP. JUST READ!!!! Most people who fail to learn Japanese do so because they are afraid of not being ready to move on, which is counterproductive. Just read. When you were a child did you spend years on vocab and grammar before reading? No I bet you did not. Pick something to read and learn what you don’t already know by reading in Japanese.
Jiten.moe has a list of novels and visual novels that you can read on your computer sorted by difficulty. So does jpdb. There’s also this document. There’s also this document. Hey look this website is cool too
For visual novels: download LunaHook. It “hooks” to your VN and allows you to use Yomitan on words you don’t know. Turn off the translation feature, it does nothing to help you learn
For literary texts: ttsu e-reader supports epub and htmlz files.
You can also learn Japanese by watching anime, but it’s a little more convoluted and requires a lot more patience.
For manga, utilize Mangatan, but I don’t recommend this right out the gate because when you’re first learning sentence structure you’ll want something with complete sentences.
Set your computer up for mining vocab before you start reading. Once you finish your kaishi deck, you can drill your mining cards (I didn’t do mine until after finishing kaishi because it was too much).
Most importantly: reading is going to be hard at first. It is going to piss you off. You need to muscle through with this because this is where the bulk of your learning will happen. After a while you will just feel like reading because you love reading! Try not to pick something too hard for your first read, but if you’re interested in the story you might be able to muscle through something a little tougher.
Remember to consult yomitan and cure dolly where needed, that’s what it’s there for. As you can see I am quite normal about the Japanese language, so if you have any other questions or need help with anything else feel free to shoot me an ask and I will get back to you promptly. Japanese is not your enemy and it is not impossible. It is your friend
These are great!! May I also recommend:
Tofugu, particularly their kana guides + quiz
Tadoku readers (free, starts at reading level 0)
Tae Kim's free Japanese grammar course/textbook
Wanikani (GREAT kanji-learning system! A massive chunk is free - trust me, if you manage to make it through all the free content, it will be worth it to continue, and if you can't/don't then you still have a good foundation!)
Lorenzi's Jisho (JP-EN dictionary, can interface with Anki flashcards)

for those who don’t remember, “mole interest” was an experiment I did 2 years ago because I wanted to test what causes tags to go trending on tumblr. My hypothesis was that all it takes is one (1) post blowing up in an established tag to make the entire tag trend.
I had randomly generated 2 words, which is where “mole interest” came from. I failed to consider that by generating a new tag, it wouldn’t have had enough posts already in it to prove what I now call “the mole interest effect”.
But now it does.
In 2023, we said “fuck it” a la mythbusters and ended up doing whatever it took to get #mole interest to trend. And it did. And it happened to be September 11th that day, and we managed to get #mole interest to trend ABOVE #9/11.
So, in the name of science, I ask you to reblog just this post. Let’s put the mole interest effect to the test.
