Surprise: I’m not dead

Anders had not really expected anything of the Inquisitor. Just another man, probably a guy like Hawke with too much charisma and too little common sense, but not someone he would know. But being dragged in front of the throne with the Inquisitor, it was… definitely someone he knew. Not someone he had expected to see alive for nearly ten year now.
He gaped, jaw dropping in stupefied shock. Karl had aged over the years, more than he should’ve, but he was undeniably Karl.
“…Karl…”
He looked at him, at the man that he had believed dead, the man he had grieved over for years, his one love. He looked older now, ragged, thinner, and Karl felt sick at the knowledge that he had been in a tiny cell for days. His Anders deserved better, so much better, and he found himself pulling him into his arms, ratty clothes and chains and al.
“My Anders...” he whispered as he held him tight, his face buried in the other’s shoulder. He didn’t care that everyone was watching, that everyone would likely turn on him or not take him seriously anymore. He just didn’t care. He had his Anders back and that was all that mattered. He would have to give him some token punishment, like condemn him to work in the infirmary and heal, but that didn’t matter now. Right now it only mattered that he was here in his arms, alive and in the safest place he could be.
