“You are disgusting.” He could feel Justice stirring deep down. Te spirit was eager to fight. “How many have you made Tranquil, violating the Chantry’s own law?”

“Curb your tongue, mage!” All pretense of friendliness was gone, his temper flaring. He stepped forward to backhand the apostate across the face, at the same time as he cast a silence. He knew this one was as dangerous as the most terrifying maleficar, and should not be given the opportunity to cast.

Ser Alrik licked his lips, slowly looking the apostate up and down. “Yes, I suppose you would. I think I’d prefer you watching me after I give you the brand, though. The look of adoration you’ll have after, hmm.... it may make even you look pretty.”

“I know, Ser. The Circle here in Kirkwall is widely known for being very strict when it comes to rules for the mages.” The only rule he has ever broken was the one to not fall in love with anyone, but he felt like there simply were more rules to break in the Gallows. “I will of course do my best to learn the new rules as quickly as possible and follow them.” This one was dangerous, he could feel that. Best not to offend him from the get-go.

“Do you know why you are here, Robe?” Ser Karras sneered, but he didn’t move closer. This was a tall one, and getting closer would not intimidate him further until he had learned to cower properly. “You’re a troublemaker. I don’t care what you did, but we’ll beat it out of you yet. I have my eyes on you Robe, one wrong move and I’ll teach you, no matter how sweetly you pretend to sing to our tune. You mages can’t be trusted and I shall not make that mistake.”

“I offer a deal.” He grinned, not cowering away from the threat. “Do as I say and your precious little clinic may remain, and you in it. Do as I say and I will ensure your friend’s sibling’s safety.”

Alrik sneered, tilting his head back so he could look at the apostate down his nose. “Don’t be preposterous. I will not dirty my hands on something like you. I’ll have you brought to heel first.”

“Always a coward, I see. Well, I’m not unprepared like Karl was.”

“Feisty.” Ser Alrik circled around the mage, watching him appraisingly. If he was bothered by being on the mage’s ground, he didn’t show it. “I hear you murder them. Tell me, mage. Do you honestly believe yourself stronger than me? You think you are ‘free’ on your own merit?”

“You want to fight?” Anders knew the bastard’s reputation. “Or would you prefer to bring your friends like you usually do?”
