According to DOH some of the signs of heat stroke are the following: warm, flushed skin; faintness, dizziness, weakness, headache, very high fever of 41°C, rapid heartbeat, convulsion, and unconsciousness.
To avoid heat stroke, the DOH advised the public to limit their amount of time outdoors. The public are advised not to be under the sun between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. when the temperature is at its peak.
- Wear a wide-brimmed hat
- Avoid drinking tea, coffee, soda, and alcohol
- Schedule heavy-duty activities for the beginning or end of the day, when it’s cooler
If someone is experiencing heat stroke:
-Move the person to a shady spot or indoors.
-Have him/her lie down with legs elevated.
-If able to drink liquids, have him/her sip cool water.
-Remove clothing, apply cool water to the skin, & fan the person.
-Apply ice packs to the armpits, wrists, ankles and groin.
"Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Bring the patient immediately to the hospital after instituting emergency measures."
