well here I am in Indianapolis, hyping myself up for the race this weekend!
I didn't bring Cliff this time -- he's living it up at summer camp the kennel (honestly he loves it there so much; he gets outrageous amounts of one-on-one fetch every day and even gets to go dock diving in their pool), and Miss Mew is with my sister (she's a love bug and knows her/the house and is purrfectly content). That said, I miss them both terribly.
I am working (remotely) while I'm here, since it wasn't worth taking time off with my guy in the shop all hours, but it is so nice to have our evenings together just doing things like grocery shopping and laundry and cooking meals. The simple things you miss while doing long-distance. I think it's been especially hard for him: he's got a nice apartment in a cute neighbourhood, and has made friends and joined a social club, but it's not the same -- I'm in our cozy home, with our pets and my friends and family. He loves what he's doing, but when he's working long days I know its especially hard to come home to an empty apartment, so I'm really glad I'm here for a bit to help him out and spend time together.
With the exchange rate, I'm not looking to spend any money beyond the essentials while I'm here, so outside of work I'm just enjoying Free Shit like running (when it's not opressively humid or actively storming out), reading (just finished the latest murderbot book) and crocheting (there's a great yarn store nearby that is the antithesis to "don't spend money" but they do have a big room set up where people just drop in and knit/crochet socially, though I haven't made it since I have a day job I have to actually do during their open hours). Luckily all my expenses for the race weekend itself are sorted out by the team (tickets, parking, hospitality, etc) so unless I decide to buy Merchandise and Food Truck snacks, it's a pretty low-cost event for me 🙃
Also been reaching out to some groups online to make friends/social plans (since my guy will obviously be Busy during the race, and I am a social butterfly at heart), and already have plans to meet up with two ladies to mill around the track a bit on race day!
I've met a few of my guys colleagues in passing when I stopped by the garage last weekend, but tonight I get to join them for a team dinner, which should be fun!
Anyway, all that to say I know I've been quiet here, but I'm doing well and the online absence is just because I'm enjoying/focused on all the IRL stuff happening in my life :)
