on somedays, am god's angriest creation.
i am angry first, and then
a girl, a daughter and everything else.
look, here is a truth, i cant do anything about, which is, your cup is half full and mine is always half empty. and the half full cup can never make up, for what is missing. for the emptiness of the other half. for what will never be ours.
am a poet, because am angry.
am a poet, because of the absences.
because this rage is the only way i know, how to keep myself alive.
because my poems are not love letters but threats. empty threats.
but look, god, i swear am trying.
trying to forgive forget everything that is fueling this rage.
when am on a prayer mat, thanking god but my mouth has forgotten what for. am trying.
when i wake up in the morning with all of my organs in place, working. when my mother makes my favorite dessert on a wednesday. when my friend takes out time just to remind me to breathe at 3:27 a.m, am looking with hopeful eyes at the half full cup. at greener side of grass. at the silver lining of the clouds.
i try my best to not notice what is not there. to not grieve over the loss and absences. to see my body for what is is. and not empty. not epitome of emptiness. i try my best to forgive forget the half empty cup.
