As you may already know if you have followed the Tennessee Tech University quidditch team or the Never-Ending Pasta Bowl, the tournament was canceled last week due to numerous teams dropping out. Though there will be no tournament today, Tennessee Tech Quidditch will be playing in two matches against The Muggle Snugglers starting at 11am on the intramural fields. If you will be in the area, come out watch them on this pleasant winter day (and maybe thank them for all the work they put into planning the tournament).

The Tennessee Tech Quidditch team will be hosting another tournament consisting of nearby teams from Tennessee and Kentucky on March 14, 2015.

It is a busy day for Tennessee quidditch teams! Three teams are playing in two tournaments today! The Middle Tennessee State University quidditch team will be playing in the 2nd Annual Southern Illinois Quidditch Open starting at 9:30am CDT. Beginning at 10:00am EDT, the quidditch teams of the University of Tennessee - Knoxville and the Tennessee Tech University will be participating in the Gold Rush II tournament in North Carolina. Go wish all three teams good luck at their tournaments!

You are settling into the new school year and have probably had at least one quidditch practice by now so you know it is time for me to contact you about your quidditch team. I will be contacting you by email so please check your inbox next week.

As you may or may not be aware off, there is still no permanent South Regional Director (though we have two temporary ones). I also want to formerly announce that I am a South Teams Representative. I am now responsible for teams in Tennessee AND Kentucky. My former title was Tennessee State Representative.

09/27/14 - If you did not get an email from me last weekend about your quidditch team, expect one this week. I had planned on sending them all last week, but someone else's project got dumped on me and I did not have time. I have not received replies from everyone I did email. Please check your inbox. My email address changed when the IQA transformed into USQ so it could have been sent to spam.

Huge Congratulations to Tennessee Tech!

The 2014 Membership Award winners have been announced and the quidditch team at Tennessee Tech University has won the 2014 Xander Manshel Award for Furthering the IQA Mission of Creativity, Community And Competition.

XANDER MANSHEL AWARD

The recipient of the Xander Manshel Award truly embodies the spirit of the IQA. By furthering the IQA’s mission of creativity, community and competition, this team has enabled the culture of quidditch to spread to a greater demographic while continuing to focus on its own competitive spirit.

Tennessee Tech was competing against 5 other teams for the award. All official teams could vote for one team in each category.

Tennessee Tech University, Cookeville TN, USA

1. Great attitudes. I have attended many of their games for a reason; they never EVER say a bad word about their opponents, win or loss. They only focus on making the team better in the event of a loss, instead of focusing hatred towards the other team. They always happily shake their opponents' hands after each match with great attitudes.

2. They consistently try to involve their community in their events. They hold regular scrimmages to make the community aware of the sport.

3. Their team spirit is unlike any other. Their fan base is even better. They handle their wins and losses with humbleness, yet confident that their team played 100% with each game. I have never seen a team like this before.

They are an amazing team with great sportsmanship and an even better sense of humbleness. They embody the spirit of quidditch on and off the field, supporting smaller teams whenever they can. They will attend small tournaments hosted by smaller unknown teams just so they can help and create new friendships for the sake of the sport. The are true ambassadors for the sport.

It’s boot camp time in Tennessee! Join us on Monday, August 18th and Tuesday, August 19th to get involved!

If you are going to the University of Tennessee campus for the Quidditch Boot Camp next week, make sure to let them know on their Facebook event page. Remember that this boot camp is for anyone that wants to learn how to play quidditch.

The quidditch team at University of Tennessee - Knoxville is hosting a quidditch boot camp for all individuals interested in playing quidditch. Maybe you have been thinking about creating a quidditch team at your school or in you community. This will be a great opportunity to meet players from other teams in our region and get advice starting a team.

The event will take place from August 17-19 with activities taking place on the 18th and 19th. A small fantasy tournament will happen on the evening of the the 19th. A schedule for the event will be released soon.

Do you want to help shape and grow quidditch in our region? If this is something you are interested in, think of applying for the South Regional Director. Click on the link to find more info about the requirements for the position, what the duties will be, and how to apply. The submission period for applications ends on August 20. The USQ is also looking for West and Northwest Regional Directors if you are from those areas.

Good luck to all Tennessee players participating in the Mid-Atlantic Fantasy Tournament today! The event begins at 8:30am EDT/7:30am CDT and scores will likely be posted online. Hope fans and players have an enjoyable time in North Carolina!
