He was spilling his guts to someone he didnât even know, and he wondered at himself. He was usually intensely private, and someone had once remarked that they needed a crowbar to pry anything out of him (to which his answer had been a cheerful âreally? Hadnât noticed.â) but here he was, opening his mouth, and words were just pouring out.
He wasnât sure if it was Shawn, or the fact that they were onboard the TARDIS, a place that was always safe to him, or whether he was just losing his marbles. He glanced over at Shawn in surprise at the mention of Divination, wondering for a moment how on earth that was supposed to help, when Shawnâs explanation gave him pause.Â
Perhaps Divination had something to do with time magic. It was the one subject heâd never taken to - but that was largely because heâd always mocked it, preferring instead the more scientific approach that arithmancy took. But the way Shawn was describing it didnât sound like the usual fluffy fortune telling rigmarole that Divination was used for. And suddenly, it felt like a world of possibilities had been opened up in front of him. âOf course,â he breathed quietly. âDivination takes its root from the verb âdivineâ - to discover the truth...â
The next moment, he was enveloped in a hug, which he returned all too readily (he loved the hugs, he really did). Shawnâs mention of support made his eyes prickle - honestly, what was wrong with him? He didnât normally just fall apart like this.Â
âThank you,â he said, his voice choked up. âEleven doesnât want to know, thinks I should leave it behind, and Nineâs too badly hurt, I donât want to put him through more... and I canât help but feel itâs my fault, Iâm the one who started digging into our past, refusing to let it go...â
He was babbling, and he knew he wasnât making any sense. Taking a breath, he tried again. âThereâs a lot I donât know, and donât understand. I donât remember very well, you see - someone wiped my memories; or maybe it was crossing my own time stream. The memories I do have are of growing up in a normal muggle household, which Iâm sure is all ... wrong.â
