Jules, you are great, you know you are. Just wish we were close enough to discuss whatâs going onâŠ
We could discuss it if you wanted to.
I'll let ya, but you gotta swear you won't tell anyone. I trust you, Jules, for whatever reason. Promise?

So youâve never pictured me naked? Dawnie, Dawn, Dawn. Iâve made many others pleased, Iâd be happy to do the same for you.
Never had the need to, Matty. Thanks but no thanks.
Ha. I'd let you take a sneak peak, if you wanted, of course.

R.I.P. Brooke.
After Brookeâs death, Cody was different. He avoided most of his peers, even some who were his friends, while he walked down the halls. On weekends he stayed home instead of going to the party or going on a date with a random cheer leader. The only things that Cody remained doing were going to school and playing football. Even that was difficult for him, as Cody wanted to avoid Matt Sullivan at all costs. When Cody was a Sophomore he and Matt had a secret relationship. Cody was head over heels in love with Matt in a way that felt like a dream. One day Matt told him he couldnât do it anymore and left. While most of the time Cody could pretend that it didnât effect him anymore, mostly because he never dealt with how the âbreak upâ mad him feel, the wound seemed to be reopened by Brookeâs passing.
One day at school, Cody arrived to English class and saw most of the class in pairs. He had been at Mrs. Thorneâs office. âBoston we are in pairs working on a poetry assignment.â The teacher told him as he looked at a paper on his desk. Cody rolled his eyes, he hated being called by his first name. âYou are partenered with Matthew Sullivan.â Codyâs heart sank into his chest. He looked over at Matt who was sitting alone looking at a piece of paper on his desk. He figured that Matt must have done something to arrange this. He walked over to where Matt was sitting and took a seat across from him. âWhat are we working on?â Cody asked, trying to ignore the elephant in the room.
No matter what Matt could do, he couldnât fix the mess he made with Cody. At this rate, he had tried everything in his power to mend the broken heart he had stuck his best friend with. No surprise, nothing was going to do the job. Matt felt completely to blame for any difficulty he may have caused because, well, yes, it was his doing. Losing Cody in his life rocked his life completely upside down. Matt started using and dealing again, which was doing him absolutely no good. The drugs were the perfect outlet for him to completely forget Cody, even if it was only for an hour. All the feelings were consuming Matt and he couldnât handle it anymore. He was still hopeless and madly in love with Cody but there was nothing he could possibly do to fix it without Cody. He couldnât look away or feel overly jealous when he saw Cody, whether it be walking down the hall or at football practice. Matt knew he had to fix it.
In English class, the only class Matt had with Cody, he sat there staring down at his desk as the teacher had assigned partners. Of course, Cody happened to be his partner and was in the counselor's office, so Matt began to chart up some ideas so he could go over it with him. When he looked up, there he came after checking in with the teacher. Matt saw Cody walk over, he wanted to smile but he knew better at this point. âUm, a poetry assignment.â His eyes slowly met Codyâs, and his heart started racing, cheeks started blushed. âThought maybe we could do assignment about love or something along those lines.â Matt turned his notebook towards Cody where he started to write some poems regarding both. âB-but thatâs your call.â
The school day seemed to be running a little bit slower than average. Not that it meant much to Matt, either way. He was charming enough to bypass all his classes based on his good lookings and his personality. By the time 2:15 rolled around, Matt scurried out of the front door and zipped home to prepare himself for his date later that evening with him and Cali. While his exterior had shown to others he had no actual interest, truthfully, he did. He took his sweet time showering, combing and styling his hair and most importantly; getting dressed. Granted, Matt wasnât the richest kid in Belmont, he was certainly up there. So needless to say, his outfits fit accordingly. He really did want to make the best possible impression on Cali. If things went well, hopefully theyâd be a couple before prom. He sighed, taking one more look over at his perfectly suited outfit. He put on a button up black and white striped shirt, Abercrombie jeans, and a pair of black sneakers. Quickly saying good-bye to his father and rubbing it in his step sisterâs face that he would be going out with Cali tonight, he vanished.
Matt hopped into his brand new sports car his father bought for him on his 17th birthday. He stopped by a florist and picked up a bouquet of roses, really trying to one up the rest of the assholes who attempted to ask Cali out. He wasnât all that worried, he had everything the girl could ask for and more. Matt truly believed the two could be the âperfectâ couple. After finishing up at the florist, he slowly approached Caliâs house, which he once referred to as his best friends house. It was only a matter of time that things had changed but Matt brushed it off. Carefully parking his car outside, he ran up the stairs to her door and knocked, awaiting the beautiful girl he would be taking out later.
Cheer practice seemed to drag longer than usual but it could have something to do with the fact. that she had something to look forward to. She still had to endure the whispers of the other cheerleaders because they were obviously jealous. âLet them talk,â her subconscious whispered. Cali told her friends good bye and drove home to get ready for her date with Matt. She knew he and her brother were rather good friends and could tell that Cody wasnât very satisfied with the fact that they were going out. She was having a little fun, there was no harm in that. A light in her very dark tunnel. For the first time in months, she was doing something she wanted. Her parents being quite happy that she was doing something other than going to school and staying in her room.
Cali put the finishing touches to her curls before she turned away from her vanity to look into the mirror. A form fitting red dress and wedges to accent her toned thighs. Her parents having gone out that evening, she was home with Cody. She could only hope that he wasnât too upset with her. A flash back coming to mind as she gazed at her image. 'You look beautiful.' Brooke murmured, squeezing Cali's shoulders. It was the first time she had put the uniform on. She only tried out for the team because her sister was on the squad. Every girl wanted to do the same things as their best friends. Well, her sister was hers.' She snapped back to the present when she heard the knocking on the door. Cali quickly blinked her eyes to clear them of any tears that might have been produced. She went down the stairs and to the door and opened it. A small genuine and shy smile came across her lips as she took his appearance, âGood evening, Matt.â
The moment Cali appeared in the frame of her door, Matt couldn't help himself but smile this goofy smile that in no way was going to impress her. Part of Matt was fearful picking up Cali from her house, mainly because of Cody. Matt peered past the young lady in front of him and saw the love of his life sitting on the couch. The look that appeared on Codyâs face broke Mattâs heart in that moment, but that wasn't something he could possibly change. âWow, you look absolutely gorgeous, beautiful, adorable,â he shook his head, feeling a sudden loss for words, âIâm sorry Iâm rambling.â He held out the flowers, âThese are for you.â He slipped his arm around Caliâs shoulder, walking her out to his car. Like a gentlemen, Matt carefully opened the door to his car, holding her hand as she entered. He slipped around to the other passenger side, one last gaze at Cody through the window before he sped off.
âSo, I was thinking,â Matt began as his eyes switched between the road and Cali, âYou said the movies. I have no idea whatâs out so I figured itâs your call whatever we see tonight. â He shuffled through the radio and left on some kind of  generic pop station which unbeknownst to Cali he could barely stand. Sure--there was so many feelings and thoughts Cali was completely unaware of that were nearly eating Matt up from the inside out. He was terrified to be going out with Cali. She was popular, beautiful, intelligent so God only knows why she was wasting her time with him. Before Matt knew it, he arrived at the theater and headed inside with Cali. As soon as they walked in, he handed Cali his credit card. âIâm gunna go get snacks, you pick out the movie. What do you want?â
Forget I brought anything up. It wasnât a dig, honestly. It has nothing to do with you, I swear.
Itâs fine Matt. Iâm used to it.
Jules, you are great, you know you are. Just wish we were close enough to discuss what's going on...
I guess, yeah. But itâs totally different, Jules. I wish I could elaborate further but I canât.
Iâm sure thatâs some sort of a dig to try to hurt my feelings, but you mustâve forgotten Iâm an ice queen.
Forget I brought anything up. It wasn't a dig, honestly. It has nothing to do with you, I swear.
I am incredibly exhausted by your âtough guyâ act, Cody. I get why you are so protective over your sister, but you arenât nearly as bad as you try to come off. I know the real you, the you that no one knows, especially Bree. I also know just how much I meant to you. So I highly doubt you meant that.
Goodnight Matty.
Bye, Cody...
Nothing, Iâm just his best friend. I donât want there to be âissuesâ.
Youâre friends with my brother, but you had no problem sleeping with me.
I guess, yeah. But it's totally different, Jules. I wish I could elaborate further but I can't.
Actually, thatâs you. By the way, taking applications for a new best friend. You interested?
What, Iâm not already your best friend?
Are you joking? Of course you are my best friend.
No worries. If her brother has any say in it, I wonât be seeing her tomorrow night.
Whatâs up his ass that you canât go out with his sister?
Nothing, I'm just his best friend. I don't want there to be "issues".
Peace. You were only a good fuck, Cody.Â
I was just imaging that was your head. Which it will be if you ever come near myself or my family again.

It wasnât that good from you, either. Can we just act as if this never happened?
Iâm damn good at what I do. I think youâre just having a performance issue. I hope that doesnât stop you from sleeping with Cali Adams tomorrow night, Iâd hate for her to be as disappointed as I feel right now.
No worries. If her brother has any say in it, I won't be seeing her tomorrow night.
Something⊠I thought you wantedâŠ
I should leave.
Peace. You were only a good fuck, Cody.Â
Itâs a date.
