on Monday we let someone (who we met on Sunday) print 50 copies of their zine for free on an inkjet we found on the streets. They insisted that we take some sort of 'payment' that would consider the value of resources, time, and that would take into account self-sustainability for a project of sharing like this. We told em "nvm ✌🏽️ cause we're sure the next time you see a sweet sofa on a curve that's perfect for this space, you'll think of us cause we were sweet and generous to you at one point". Their eyes lit up because apparently finding gems on CL's Free Stuff is their 'superpower'.... The *NEXT DAY* they found us this sweet toner photocopier that does 11x17 (the size of our magazine @superjodido, which we are alway struggling to get printed). And this thus then how the #gifteconomy works. It never ceases to amaze and inspire me. I am truly convinced we are all one big being of energy that experiences itself through different forms of subjectivity. To give to another is to give to one's self greater total self. And even though the idea of charity is vile (you do not fill up the cracks of inequity with the fruits of your unjust privilege) and that we do always have to consider sense & value (*) and we need to be 'realistic' and assure material conditions that can help us avoid burnout and allow us to keep working and creating... I do firmly have faith that all this shit we live is based on make-believe, and hence we can make it up however way we want: we can make it more fair, sweeter 🍬, with more care ingrained in our interactions. To give #gifts, to not turn anyone away for lack of funds, to #barter and think of different ways of sharing is to tear up the supposed "social contract" 🙄 and prove that there are always possibilities at arms-length to escape this mathematical equation model with which we rule 📏 most of our Interactions.
