“Being put in an asylum at the ripe age of nineteen?”
“How else would I feel?”
"Right, well, I'm sorry about that, but I was wondering more how you felt physically."
“What’re you doing with that?”
"...Taking your temperature? The nurses are busy and, apparently, I'm supposed to do this."
I’m fine. Don’t touch me.
I mean, I don't have to touch you, I just need to known about cuts, scars, bruises... that kind of thing.
I hate this place. I shouldn’t even be here.
I'm sorry. Can I just look you over really quick? Make sure you don't have any injuries or anything?
"I'm not crying, I have allergies."
“You didn’t pick up on that before?” He laughed briefly, shifting upright to pull a book from his lap; Peter Pan. “I’m gonna assume you can read; you have time to read some of this to me?”
"Yeah, I can do that," She answered as she took the book from him and sat down.
“Just missing the wings.” He gestured to her vaguely, taking the medicine and promptly curling up in one corner of the couch, the blanket hastily draped over himself.
"Good to know."
“How would you know? You don’t know me! You don’t know what I’ve been through!” He called after her; loud enough to disturb any patients trying to catch up on missed sleep. “You are an angel!”
Teresa decided not to reply to the first part, setting the blanket and tisues down before passing him the medicine. "Yeah? Well, I try, I guess."
“Ugh, it’s far from simple. I can’t stand myself most days, dunno how anyone else would.” He nodded cautiously, waving a hand. “I might die, but I’ll be fine.”
"I don't think you'll die," she shot back before leaving, quickly returning with the requested items after.

She rose her shaking, tiny hand again to write two words, and only two words. She took her time with each letter.–
I’m scared.
"How about this, you tell me what you're scared of, and I'll protect you. Sound good?" She watched the little girl, meaning every word.
“I would marry them, if that wasn’t more of a punishment than a reward.” He sniffled once again, turning away to sneeze into his elbow. “Ow.”
"Marry, huh? Sounds pretty simple on their part." She shook her head, smiling a bit. "Think you'll be okay alone for a minute?"
“You’re here to learn, correct?”
"Yes, I am."
|| OPEN STARTER ||
The little girl swallowed nervously the bit her lip, using the back of her hand to rub the moisture away from her downcast eyes.
"There's no reason to cry..."
“DayQuil, a shit ton of blankets and maybe some tissues my nose is running.” He snivelled.
"Yeah, I bet someone could do that."
|| OPEN STARTER ||
Madeline cowered back slightly, turning her head in a flinch. After a second of tension she nodded again, kneeling down to write once again.–
I don’t like to talk.
"Okay. That's alright. You don't have to talk."
“Something else? That doesn’t sound very reassuring.”
"Well, I'm not a psychologist. I'm never really sure I'm doing things right."
“Oh, gimme a fucking break. I’ve got a cold, in April.”
"That is unfortunate. Want me to find a nurse to get you some Dayquill or something?"
