1)Week 5 & 6-Installation
Title: Catch Me If You Can
BY Chan Wing Yin, Rachel and Tong Wing Yee, Kes
(link: http://sciartist.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-18.html)
The concept of this group is to transform dimension, somewhat like the concept of my group.
The idea of using shadow to create an artwork is quite interesting, there are many possibility in it. For example if you change the projection angle of the light, the shape of shadow will change. There is lots of fun playing with shadow.
In the photo, the frames did not trap the cat nor the fish, but when you look on the wall, the shadow of the frames tells different story. The difference between shadow and the object make it more interesting to look at.
Thus, there is one thing I think they can improve is that the 3D objects they fold with paper could be more difference with the shadow on the wall, it will create more surprises.(i.e. Make the 3D-object more difficult to see the shape of a cat, such as having several layers, but when its shadow project on the wall, a complete cat could be seen.)
2) Week 3-Composite object
Title: Warm Music
BY LO Miu Ki
(link: http://uimolobjectsandinstallation.blogspot.hk/2015/04/week-4-assignment.html)
When I first look at the object, I thought that is a knitting mini-scarf, but when I look closer, it is made with earphones, it is a really surprising and innovative idea to combine earphones and needle—which is nothing related to scarf—and create a work.
Scarf gives people an image of warm, the work is successful to present what is the main concept.
3) Week 3-Composite object
Title: Sew the Ring
BY Chan Wing Yin, Rachel
(link: http://rachellynaa.tumblr.com/)
This work is simple, but quite interesting to think about.
The ring is sew with an button, which means the function of a ring is destroy, it is no longer wearable.
Though there is not much description in the blog, I suggest it is an art work that related to love and relationship. What makes the artist sew a ring? Maybe a heart-broken relationship.
Although the flower on the top is still blossoming, represent sweet and happy, which is entirely opposite meaning; the sewed ring hidden below imply a message that the relationship has go to an end.
4) Week 2-clay work
Title: Real Me
BY Yeung Ka Yan
(link: http://kyyeung69.blogspot.hk/2015/03/sm1702-l03-week2.html)
The work represent both sides of a person, one side face the outside world, and the other side is what he or she really is in deep down. The sculpture is full of pain and stress, makes me sad.
The details of the sculpture make it more realistic, the hard work that the artist pay in it could be seen. It is a successful work and fits the title.
The front side of this work is a pig, a fat and (seems like) happy pig, but when you turn around it, there is a skeleton-like object, struggling, trying to get rid of the pig, but failed. The pig act like a costume to that skinny skeleton-like object, pretending to be what it isn’t.
5) Week 1-Paper Construction
Title: Bird & Boat
BY Tong Wing Yee
(link: http://sciartist.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-4.html)
The work fully compliance with its title. It looks like a boat, but when you look at the front and the end of it, you can find the beak and the tail of a bird(i.e. Swallow).
In the description of this work, the artist mentioned about floating and transformation. Once it was only a little boat floating on a endless sea with no destination, but slowly it transforms into a bird, when it complete the change, it can fly in the sky freely, nothing can trap it and can go wherever it want to go.
The story is quite positive and implies a message that we must have a target in our life.
CMS1 [SM1702] Installation Project (group)
Title: Trick Your Eyes
with Yeung, Ka Yan (54032654) (link: http://kyyeung69.blogspot.hk/)
Materials: cardboards, strings, black paper, wool
Design Concept:
The concept of this work is to play with space and illusion, let audience explore different dimenson of space by transforming 2D into 3D.
Rectangle is not bizzarre at all in our daily routine, it appears in the common objects we see like cupboards and sceens. When the human eyes expose to some familiar 3D object, we intend to think the 2D cardboards are stereoscopic. We also used minimalist lines and shapes, which intend to lead the audience focus on the space rather than the shape itself.
As our work consists of three different dimension of space, they are put together to disturb the spatial perception of human. This work leaves a question to the audience about whether our perception is believable or not.
Moreover, we chose to present our work at the opposite side of the staircase, to allow audience to look at the work on both side(walking on the stairs / on the platform of study area). Audience could experience various outcome with different perspective.
Process:
To create an strong illlusion, we decided to use simple shapes and lines to make our work.
We first think of using wire to create the form of the 2D object, but we found out that it will be difficult to make our work stand out from the background. Therefore we chose to use cardboard with color like red and yellow, which can create texture and catch the eyes of the audience at the first sight.
We also used ruler to draw the lines and calculate the proportion and ratio of the shape. Because every single deviation may cause the work seems unrealistic.
Moreover, we would like to create different planes of space in the very beginning. However, we discovered that the wools cannot stand the weight of object when we pushed them far from us. Then we changed our mind and made the space seems like illogical to appear in the same plane. Audience is confuse about which rectangle is in front of the others.
We built the outline of rectangles(2D), use several ways to transform them into 3D.
For example, we use lines to create shading to distrub the percept of human eyes. In a specific angle, two distinctive spaces are compress to generate a single-space illusion. One of the rectangle is normal and allows audience can compare with the three space in our installation.
Reflection:
1)Material and technique
We once tried to create several layers for our work, to make it richer in visual. Thus, the limitation of materials and technique, we are not able to install our work as expected.
The cardboards are much more heavier than our anticipation as the wools and papers stack layer by layer. It made the weight of our installation exceed the affordable limitation. So that our work failed to hang in different planes.
For improvement, we could try to create more layers to increase its richness. Audience will be able to look at the work not only from the front or back(illusion of rectangles lie on the same plane), but also from the side(a series of rectangles with similar size display on various planes).
2)Presentation Area
In this project, we only placed our work beside the staircase since the limitation of the materials. We can find another lighter materials next time so that it can hang in every plane and space.
We could also try to explore different places to place our work, for example outdoor area.
3)Color
Although we tried to use simple color to present our work, the relation between the color and the concept perhaps not clear enough.
In conclusion, we should choose the color of similar gradience to allow audience percepting the transform of space.
CMS1 [SM1702] Composite Object
Picnic
I use very simple objects to create this work, the main idea is to play with size. I use my hat and some small people to create an illusion of they are having a picnic on the mountain.
My inspiration is form an illusion photo. The far object is smaller than the close object, and with this, we pretend to use finger to pick up a person, blow them away, etc.(example picture below)
It is quite crazy if human is smaller than a hat, it will break the common sense of the society, but also the funniest part of it.

Artist Statement
This video I make is to consider the possibility of “If sound can trick human eyes”. This work has combined sound I recorded in daily life and the photos and videos I took. The initial idea is audience can participate in it and pick different combination as they like; there will be two boxes shown in the screen, one is playing a different object from the sound, and the other is showing the original object.
Human usually be prejudiced by their eyes, although they are listening to the same audio, the difference of images can still trick their brain to believe they are hearing different sound. I would like to test if the case is still work vice versa.

HUG
I use a very simple shape to present the gesture of a person. I did not focus much on the facial expression as I want to emphasis the gesture.
My inspiration is the sleeping gesture of one of my childhood photos.
I linked the hands and legs together in this sculpture to represent two things: hug and protection.
I enjoy hugging with friends and family, it makes me feel warm, comfortable and be loved. This is also one of the reason I choose this gesture.
But this gesture also make people feel like protecting something important, which hold really really close to protect it from the outside world, from the threat and harm.
For me, I would like to protect my family and friends, they are what I cherish.
The gesture of hug is also a physical way to represent protection.
CMS1 [SM1702]
Car
My inspiration is from one of my drawing in childhood.
I transfer it from 2D form into 3D form in this work.
When I see car, the first thing come in my mind is this “car”. Actually it is a tank, of course a simplify one. (The balls at the bottom are wheels.)
I used to draw this kind of “car” when I was small, my brother and I will decorate it and have a little competition on which one of our tank is more impressive and cool.
It is very meaningful and memorable for me.

music object
The music that I heard in the lesson give me a shape of something want to extent upward, the sound is sharp and a bit strange to me, so I twisted and make some cone shape.

CMS1[SM1702]object I want to get rid off/ doesn’t want to loose
The object that I want to get rid off is the hesitation.
Before I do something, I always think of what bad things will happen if I do this or do that, I hesitate if it is right or wrong to take my action, at the end, I got nothing because I am afraid to make my choice.
Some may say it is good to think and see the whole picture before you act, this can reduce the mistake you may make. But I think it is also not good to think too much, you will only scare yourself. Sometimes people take action impulsively may come out a surprise.

Work 2(part 2): 3D formation
My inspiration is from the frames of animation, I found it is quite interesting when you look at all the frames together at the same time, but not as usual one by one.
I try to create a movement and link different objects I put on the paper. It is quite easy to see the relationship between the folding objects in similar shape. I want to create a flow and rationalise the position I place on the green paper.
CMS1 [SM1702] Paper Construction
Work 2(part 1): 2D graphic
I like things that are place with order, and sometimes symmetrical, for example totem. Therefore, in the first few photos, the pattern somewhat balance, the weight in visual of both side are similar.

Work 1: free folding
Brain
This free folding is formed by triangles in different size. I love triangles, they can form beautiful combinations, after folding the paper transformed into an interesting shape.
It looks different of you look in different way, for example it like a rose if you look from the above.
I think this can represent how I think, look things in different ways to find out the most attractive and interesting part of it, and it is how I find funny things in my life.
