MEET GROUNDBREAKER ENRIQUE URUETA
Enrique Urueta
From Halifax County, VA.
Groundbreaker play:
The Danger of Bleeding Brown
What was the first memorable theatre production you saw and why does it stick with you?
My Upward Bound program took us to see Jelly's Last Jam on Broadway. I think I was 14 or so. That was pretty memorable because, well… Savion Glover!
He wanted to share this with you:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHPpnwYVV8s
Enjoy!
Got to love the Groundbreakers!
MEET GROUNDBREAKER DAN KITROSSER
Dan Kitrosser
www.dankitrosser.com
From Philadelphia, PA
He has a dog named Daisy (as seen above). She is a rescue pit bull and utterly delightful!
He saw Into the Woods at Akiba Hebrew Academy High School, when he was 6 years old:
“It was all of my favorite characters and they were singing and they were adults and they were doing it, right there in front of me. I've since met the actors who were in that production--they are teachers and lawyers and guidance counselors--and I act like they are hallowed celebrities.”
He wrote a play and submitted it to Groundbreakers! (Spoiler: he got accepted)
Groundbreakers Play: THIRD PERSON
What’s the play about?? In short: Buck gets hit by lightening and narrates his own life. It bothers his family.
SEE MORE OF DAN’S WORK
WideEyed Productions is producing Dan’s new Play DEAD SPECIAL CRABS at The Barrow Group Theatre, Nov. 7 - Dec. 6
Theatre for the People is producing his even newer play AMSTERDAM in 2015
He is in the process of working with Fox Studios to adapt my play THE MUMBLINGS into a TV series
Last but not least, if you meet Dan don’t ever call him Chelsea.
“ In elementary school, my brother imitated Bill Clinton. So the bullies called me Chelsea….”

Groundbreakers Play: How to Eat an Oreo
In How to Eat an Oreo, three teens try to escape an obesity camp and gay-to-straight conversion center, while struggling with their unhealthy fixations more than likely induced by their provincial but societally normal parents. As the realization of being caught by the camp counselors draws near, they each must come to terms with what they've been forced to deny about themselves.
What was the first memorable theatre production you saw or were involved with and why does it stick with you? This is pretty recent actually. I stage managed/mom’d an undergraduate production of The Colored Museum by George C. Wolfe this past spring (2014). It was a mostly all female production, and the actors, directors, and tech crew literally blew me away. I got chills during every performance, and that’s saying a lot, as there were plenty moments where I felt as if the show truly was not going to come to fruition; not for the lack of talent, but for the lack of time and resources. Not only did everyone instrumental in the project surprise the shit out of me, but they shocked the School of Theater (SOT) into submission. Hopefully, that’ll teach them (SOT) not to continue to underestimate their student body by relying on a small few to represent the department. Any Current pop-culture obsession or interest? I’m always obsessed with Boondocks, like that will never waver. But to choose something more current: Amos Lee. I should probably be president of his cult fan club.
Do you have a nickname? Coco or Chanellybobelly (only my family can call me this.. don't try it!)

What is play are you developing in Groundbreakers?
Ballast
Can you give us a quick (Twitter friendly) Synopsis of Ballast:
"It’s about being in a romantic partnership with someone who is undergoing a gender transition…and learning how to fly."
Can’t get enough of Georgette?? Neither can we! Check out what is coming up for her:
I am currently writing a 10-minute play based on the story of Skylla and Kharybdis from The Odyssey for RedLeaf Theatre. Performances of that play will be coming up in March, as part of a larger evening of one-acts.
I’m also looking forward to readings of Ballast as part of The Alliance/Kendeda National Graduate Playwriting Competition as well as a reading at The Alliance Theatre in Atlanta in February and another in New York in the spring, location tba.
A little more about Georgette:
"The first theatrical role I ever played was a paper clip in a short play at day camp. I was about five years old, and I have no idea what the play was about. All I remember is that I came on (with all the other paper clips, en masse) when someone said "Bring on the paper clips!" It sticks in my memory like a fragment of some crazy dada-esque performance art...the dark room, the bright lights, the disembodied voice calling for paper clips. And my totally awesome costume made of rolled tin-foil."
"My favorite writers are Jeanette Winterson and Paul Auster!"
"Oh and I don’t have a pet but whenever I visit a dog beach I seriously consider stealing the French Bulldogs and Boston Terriers."

Excerpts from RUNBOYRUN
by Mfoniso Udofia
"From a divine broken came our WORLD it's from that, that we come to be ourselves."
"...There is something in this house that- I tried to use my computer and the whole thing just "pyam" like that. Everything gone. And then this strange feeling as something started running up my leg.
... Are you hearing me? ... Mbok, this is serious."
"You used to sit just like this, put your arm around me and ask me to tell you a story. Every night. You knew my home. You knew the color and make of my daddy's Peugot and the size and animals of mmami's farm. You knew my church. You would sit, arms around me, drinking my nothing stories like water. And I never asked you to tell me anything. I hated it here. I hated the smell of this place. And your story-telling made me better."

Excerpts from CRYING LETTUCE
by Alexandra Collier
"I didn't seek to hurt anyone but I do know that people often recognize themselves in fiction and fail to see themselves in truth. I have never tried to write the truth."
"Things hang in the balance from nanosecond to nanosecond. Things are fabulous and then they're a shitshow."
"Anna: ...he was a fruit-atarian.
Ivy: A what?
Anna: You know. A fruit-atarian.
Ivy: What's that?
Anna: They are waiting for fruit to fall off trees before they can eat.
Ivy: (Giggling) What?!
Anna: They are (she mimes staring blankly at fruit tree) sitting... sitting... sitting in orchard all day and waiting for fruits to fall.
Ivy: You're kidding me. What the fuck do they eat?
Anna: Nothing. We did not go to restaurant. We did not do anything. He ate many mushrooms.
Ivy: Mushrooms?
Anna: He said it is ok, because mushrooms are not so stuck in earth, so you can, like, pull them softly from the ground without them knowing. "

STEVE DiUBALDO
BOMMER'S MILLENNIAL HERO STORY
STEVE DiUBALDO is a New York City playwright, screenwriter, and poet. His plays include Under the Water Tower, Boomer's Millennial Hero Story, Coyote and the Origin of Death, It's Only Quiet in the Dark, Inside Fires, The Solitudes, The Milk Man's Baby, Bargain Basement Exhumation, and The Catholic Question, among others. He is a member of the Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre apprentice company, "The Middle Voice," and is a recipient of "The Rita and Burton Goldberg Playwright Foundation Fellowship" and the "Excellence in Playwriting Award" at NYU, where he received his MFA in Dramatic Writing.
Excerpts from BOOMER'S MILLENNIAL HERO STORY by Steve DiUbaldo
"Sometimes in life, you hope for beauty, but all you get are a bunch of sweaty dicks."
"This here is an All-Amercan story... about one man on his quest to become special in an extra-ordinary world. Old Montgomery Walter, a straight white male born in 1986 to America's upper-middle class. Like any story of American heroics, there's romance. There's danger. Rampant sexism, and racism. Senseless violence. Zeitgeist. And some things that just don't make any sense at all."
"Ladies and Gentleman of the streets, I have had enough. Enough of shopping at K-Mart, of buying our tee-shirts from GoodWill, switching from Turkey to Bologna, buying the off-brand ibuprofen, having to save our beer bottles for petty change, and worst of all... renting."
