Tell Me To Stay ♒ [Jac x Terra]
Jac’s eyes widened briefly, and he forced himself to blink and curve his lips upward. He was going to be the bait. He was in training to be bait. Well, there were worse things he could be training for, he supposed. His tiny smile turned to a frown as soon as Terra looked away. But hey - she was helping. He couldn’t hold that against her.
Suddenly, there was a small fire in front of him. He unwittingly let out a small yelp, but no one around him seemed concerned about the flame on the bar. His eyes snapped to Terra. She, too, had a small inferno in front of her. To his absolute bewilderment, she drank the thing. The first thought that went through his mind was, She must be some sort of dragon.
With more grimace than he was sure she wanted, Jac cautiously raised the cup to his lips. He blew slightly across the surface, but the purple flame just flickered in defiance. He brought the demonic thing closer to his mouth, his eyebrows growing dangerously close to one another. He gave it another, more forceful blow and this time, the flame flickered out.
Jac glanced again over to Terra, who was looking at him expectantly. A small, nervous smile pulled at his lips. He didn’t drink alcohol. Perhaps he should say that. He set the small cup down and looked at the girl. “I should probably tell you that this is my… uh, like, I don’t really..” He squeezed his eyes closed, a flush coming to his cheeks. Grand.
"No, it’s just… ugh. Nevermind." He brought the cup up to his lips and took the smallest sip. His mouth was instantly on fire, but he forced himself not to start gagging. Instead, one eye squeezed shut intensely. The command to "not make a face" suddenly popped back into his head and he tried to open his eye, but the other one began to close and soon he was squinting. He should probably take another sip. That’s what you did, right?
How the hell had this woman taken a full shot of this poison?
Jac forced another sip past his lips before he set the half-filled shot down. He blinked a few times before looking up at Terra. His lips pursed. “Not exactly… not exactly my favorite thing. Sorry?”
His ramblings made her sigh. Fantastic. "Just shut up and drink it, Fitzroy." Terra instructed in a firm tone. After all, peer pressure wasn't always terrible, wasn't it? She was only trying to make him a better person----- sometimes your drunk persona was just far, far better than your normal self. Terra had learned that first hand from her brother. Tiber was a stoic, firm & never broke the rules while sober, the exact opposite to his twin sister, ironically. But, once he had had a few drinks, the man was almost a better dancer than Terra herself.
The brunette only hoped that Jacaranda would be able to let his hair down after his drink.
That is, if he managed to actually drink it.
Her eyes narrowed, disbelief etching on her features. His own expression was clearly one of disgust--- and was that horror? Tilting her head to the left, Terra's mouth hung open in a small 'o' shape. Had he never had a shot? Why did he sip at it? Of course it was going to taste disgusting, that was why she knew to toss it back in one quick mouthful. That thought then posed a question in her mind; had he ever even had a drink before?
"God." One word spat with clear distaste, and it sat on the bar between the two, an awkward set of three letters. Now she spoke to the bar tender. "Get me another one of those. Actually, make it two. But get him an apple juice. In a kid's popper."
The woman sighed and pushed her hair away from her face. "Think you can handle an apple juice, Fitzroy?" Their drinks were served, but to Terra's dismay his own drink was a tall glass of apple cider. Nothing particularly childlike in that concoction. "You know, maybe this drink will be better. Just try it, alright? And don't splutter it everywhere."
She drank her two shots in record time, and finally the knots in her shoulders seemed to unravel. Along with that came an uneasy feeling that wasn't guilt, but something similar. A tiny portion of her mind felt bad for snapping at the man, and she remembered as well that she was trying to teach him how to be a proper member of high Capitol society. Snapping at him was not going to help this case. Terra attempted a friendly smile and turned on her chair to him, her body language inviting. "What do you think of the cider?"

Tell Me To Stay ♒ [Jac x Terra]
Terra Marrona. Marrona… The name struck a chord with Jac. His face fell blank for a moment before squinching in concentration. Marrona. Then it hit him. The fashion designer. His eyes widened. Half a second later his head dropped to look at his shoes - they were Marrona brand from two seasons ago. Crap.
"Oh. My. God. Of course!" His voice was strained and unnaturally lengthened, but he was trying. "Terra. Marrona. Of Marrona fashion. Of course!" He forced a choppy laugh out of his throat and quickly drowned it with a large gulp of soda. "And you totally know me. Jacaranda Fitzroy. Ha ha!"
"You’re really shit at helping me make someone jealous, you know."
Jacaranda ran a hand through his hair, letting it rest on the back of his neck. “Ehh, I suppose. I’m sorry. I’m not exactly… used to being the bait. I see it happen all the time, but I’m not usually the one picked. Sorry.” He forced a half smile onto his face, though his eyes remained diverted.
His eyes came up, however, at the offer of help. It was something Jac had never really thought about, because it had never really affected him. He could do business well enough - he could buy and sell ideas and property. But actual society was a different beast that he had yet to tame.
Jac felt like he was already failing his first test. Was this meant to be like a business deal? Certainly not. There was a definite line between “business” and “pleasure.” As such, he was out of his element.
"Uh…" he stammered. "I, uh, yeah? I mean… that would be great?" A chuckle tried to get past his lips, but tripped on his tongue and died in his mouth.
At least he now knew who she was. Though, she couldn't say the same for him. Jacaranda Fitzroy--- it did ring a bell, but that was it. Not that Terra blamed herself for not knowing him, he seemed like an awkward recluse; definitely someone that she would rarely wish to socialise with. But now there was the challenge of making him into someone, turning him into a proper, functioning Capitolite. After all, he was handsome. Why not create a handsome personality for him too?
A smile spread across gold-painted lips, her teeth shining strangely behind the shimmering makeup. "When I'm through with you, you're going to be all sorts of bait. Or, maybe you'll even be the big fish." She said this with a wink and a nudge, hoping to appeal to the side of him that was drawn to women---or men. Whatever floated his boat, Terra did not care, but now she was too excited to even properly think about potential social consequences.
If anyone ever asked why she was talking to him, she could just say she was doing her bit for charity.
Flicking her hair over her left shoulder, Terra the downed her drink and clicked her fingers, prompting the bartender to give them each a shot of something that had a bizarre purple flame flickering on its surface. She picked her's up daintily between two fingers, and gestured for him to do the same.
"Alright, lesson number one. Down this without making a face." Truthfully, this wasn't really a lesson, but Terra knew that she would have to be far more drunk than she was to be able to deal with his mumbling--- and perhaps if he was drunker, then he too would loosen up a bit. "Ready? Go."
The flame was fake, of course, and it was extinguished the moment her lips met the rim of the shot glass. Downing it easily, the scalding liquid flowed down her throat and settled in her stomach, already radiating a familiar warmth that created a giddy change to her personality. All that without a blink of an eye---- she only hoped that Jacaranda could do the same.
Tell Me To Stay ♒ [Jac x Terra]
Jac sipped at his drink. Whoever this girl was, she certainly knew how to work her angle. She had switched to a guilt tactic almost immediately, but also had the foresight to see that she was blocked from view. Incredible. She would have to make a move soon if she was to keep Ex’s attention.
Ah, there she went. Jac allowed himself a congratulatory smile. He was the slightest bit proud of his predictive capabilities. She was making her way towards the bar. That was a bit of an odd choice; unless Ex usually bought her drinks, that is. Then it would make sense.
But then she was… approaching him? And putting her arm around his shoulders? Jac was instantly baffled. He pulled his head backwards as she leaned in for a hug.
"Play along. I’ll repay you later."
What did she mean by that?! The next thing Jac knew, she had kissed him loudly and largely on the cheek. He blinked several times and shook his head slightly to clear out the haze that had enveloped him. Who was this girl? What was he supposed to play along with?
"How have you been?"
"Uh… ah," he stuttered. "I’ve been… good?" Jac’s statement ended with just as much question as was in his head. He looked at the girl for a moment, trying to process. She had come here… Jac noticed her glance over her shoulder at… Ex!
Suddenly everything clicked into place. He was the new tactic. He was the one she was trying to make Ex jealous with. Jac blinked a few more times as the implications of this filtered in. This meant she thought he was attractive.
All the sudden there was a blush in his face. “Uh, good. I’ve been good. Friend.” He stuttered again. “I’ve just been. You know. Doing what I do. Haha.” He forced a smile onto his face.
"How… what about you? How have you been… pal?" Jac threw an absolutely pitiful attempt at a playful punch to her shoulder. He was bombing. He silently thanked the universe that Ex was too far away to actually hear the conversation, or the whole gig would be up. He hastily took another sip of his soda.
Her features ran blank for all of two seconds---- who was this man? And how could he not play along like a normal person? How was she supposed to play along with his attempts -if you could even call them attempts- to chat as if they knew each other? Her fake smile stiffened, and Terra wished she had picked another guy, any other guy at the bar instead of him.
How could a man so good looking be so nervous?
"Wow, I can't believe you don't remember me!" Perhaps she could try from this angle; and maybe he would do better this way. "It's me, Terra. Terra Marrona? Come on, you have to remember me." With great emphasis on her surname, the sponsor could only hope that this man would have heard of her mother's fashion label and could click the picture together.
They playful punch had her almost groaning with embarrassment, and she physically winced. Shaking her head ever so slightly, it was as if she was telling him to never do that ever again. Where did he learn his social skills? Some insane asylum?
Averting her dark eyes from this stranger for a moment, Terra glanced at her other dance partner. Or, at least, the part of him that wasn't aggressively locking lips with some other tacky looking girl. She almost stamped her foot in frustration. Her jaw jutted angrily, but Terra tried to console herself with the fact that this new girl's dress was so last season, and she was ugly, anyway. Who even had blue hair anymore?
"You're really shit at helping me make someone jealous, you know."
She shook her head and looked around for a chair. The bar was pretty crowded, so she turned her attention to another man sitting next to the hopeless case. With a smile on full beam, Terra flirted for a moment and then asked, "Could I sit here? Oh, thank you! My feet are just so sore from dancing!" The man was only too happy to oblige. "Thank you! Okay, good bye now!" With a little wave of her fingers, Terra turned her back to the fumbling, confused man and faced the awkward brunette, her features thoughtful.
"You know, I could totally teach you how to actually function in public. I mean, you need lessons."

Tell Me To Stay ♒ [Jac x Terra]
Parties had always been more of his father’s scene than Jacaranda’s. They overwhelmed Jac, and this one was no different. The loud noises, constant movement and music always made Jac feel trapped, as if his feet were glued to the floor and the cup glued to his hand.
He took pleasure and comfort, though, in people watching. It truly was fascinating to notice when someone was flirting with someone else or when a conversation was ending. Right now, a couple was fighting. They weren’t speaking any louder than was needed; they didn’t want to make a scene. But the way she turned her shoulders in, and the way he thrust his pelvis out… it was all very argumentative. Jac quirked a smile at it. It was intriguing.
Taking a sip of his soda, Jac looked out over the crowd of dancers. It wasn’t so much that he was antisocial; Jac knew that parties and interaction were part of his job. These things just didn’t come as naturally to him as the business side of things. And even that was a stretch. Money management hadn’t really been taught to him. It was more “spend what you need.” And that had suited him just fine.
He took another sip of his drink and smiled. The young couple had officially split, and the girl was now passively aggressively gyrating against a different boy, all the while shooting daggers at her now-ex. People were fascinating.
Jac sipped his drink. It was going to be a long night.
The stupid prick had tried to grope her. In the middle of the dance floor! He was only lucky that Terra hadn't been holding a drink, or else it would have been splashed across his face. The moron was also lucky that Tiber had decided to not come to this party, otherwise he could have been going home with a black eye and a split lip. Instead, Terra had to fend for herself; which she did with cutting words and a few harsh insults. His masculinity wounded, the jerk slunk away from her with his tail between his legs.
Ah, shit. Now she had no one to dance with. Instantly latching onto the closest man, Terra wooed him with a flutter of her eyelashes and shimmied her hips in the red dress that accentuated her curves so well. The dress had golden spikes jutting from its collar, and her shoes had a similar decoration on their extravagantly tall heels. Soon they were grinding up against each other like there was no tomorrow, though anyone with half a brain could see that she was really not into it.
Pitch coloured eyes bore holes into the other man--- why didn't he try to get her to keep dancing with him? He was a pain, sure, but he was also giving her plenty of attention. Now that the stream of devotion had stopped, Terra felt quite annoyed. Perhaps he was unable to see her from the angle that she was at. Ditching her new dance partner -to what she imagined would be his utmost disappointment- Terra marched towards the bar, and the good-looking man sitting there. Yes, he would be perfect. A quick glance over her shoulder confirmed that the ex-lover was now watching her closely. Perfect.
"Hey, you!" After flicking her hair over her shoulders, the sponsor greeted the stranger like an old friend, looping her arm around his shoulder and beaming widely. Once her mouth was next to his ear, however, she whispered; "Play along. I'll repay you later." Instantly all smiles again, she kissed his cheek brazenly. "I haven't seen you for years! How have you been?"
