Sora’s aware his friends are starting to get suspicious. He can be oblivious, but he’s not dumb or blind. He’s intentionally been avoiding everyone as much as he thought he could get away with, sneaking off more often then normal to just….sit.
Sit and think, let his mind wander, mull over the situation. In hindsight it might not have been the best thing for him.
Things had escalated, recently. More so then Sora could have predicted.
He was used to a formula of sorts. There’s a bad guy, he fights the heartless, fights the bad guy, saves the worlds, done. It’s simple, it’s become familiar. He’s the good guy, so he fights and he wins and that’s that.
Except….it’s not, all of a sudden. All of a sudden the stakes are raised and yet Sora just seems to fall lower. He’s failed at something he’d been so confidant in, and while he’s so so happy for and proud of Riku, part of him can’t help but bristle.
He’s failed, he’d tripped and fallen down a dark hole he still feels like he hasn’t quite crawled out of. He’s weaker, he’s unsure of himself, unsure of what happens next, if he can even manage what needs to be done, if he can even do any of this anymore.
All of a sudden. Sora is scared.
More scared and doubtful then he think he’s ever let himself feel.
And he refuses to let anyone else find out. Hence the actively avoiding practically everyone.
“…What am I doing?” He breathes heavily, perched high and alone, looking out over the sights below him. There’s a cold feeling inside him when he realises he has no answer.
It’s not like he hasn’t noticed.
He and the King had their duties, but whenever Riku met back up again with Sora, there was a noticeable wane in his cheerfulness and enthusiasm. Part of that was to be expected after what had transpired, but the longer his best friend continued to try and hide what was bothering him- The more Riku began to worry.
Beneath the encouraging words and smiles, something was beginning to eat away at Sora. He found excuses to get out of training, even brushed off Riku’s gentle offers to talk. For awhile, he thought that maybe Sora needed the space and time to mull over his issues- That’s how he himself dealt with things, so he understood that need for comfortable distance more than anyone. But this was... different.
He was isolating himself.
It feels a bit unfair to tail the brunette without his knowledge and encroach upon his personal space, but maybe an intervention was needed. After all, it was the other boy who’d told him that he didn’t need to face his demons alone. The same sentiment should be true enough for Sora’s dilemmas.
“Other than talking to yourself? I can answer that,” he answered, stepping forward. “You’re really beginning to worry us- Especially Kairi.”
He took a seat beside Sora, resting an elbow against his raised knee.
“So, you gonna tell me what’s bothering you? Because doing the whole ‘dark, brooding alone’ thing really isn’t your style.”
