✗ ;【This toxic dump that was what the Scientists had foundhumorous to call his ‘home’, the place he was expected to sleep, to live. In some ways he found it ironic that such a place was to be considered his place of residence- even amusing.
It fit. It fit the darkness and toxicity that was, and would always be, his heart. He relished the choking murkiness of the District, drinking in the foul atmosphere it produced and the even fouler reactions it brought from those unused to the environment.
It reminded him of his resolve.
Vanitas wasn’t a stupid entity. His senses were greater than most, trained and refined. No rest- from birth he was forced to fend for himself. To fight, to slaughter, to maim- himself, as well as others. He sensed the two specks of light that steadily made their way into the depths of the city, their intent obvious, but their shine clouded by dark thoughts.
Haha… oh what a wonder how such a simple act could bring out the worst in two individuals who were once considered ‘Protectors’ of light. A wonder, how such an act could feel so… freeing.
“It’s useless hiding from me, you know.” He called, even as the icy spell harmlessly crashed before his feet, the musky warmth of the District dispelling the weak Blizzard into a thin mist that wisped about his feet.
His voice was different. Darker. Colder. It held a tenor that was much more distant than his usual façade of humor wouldn’t be able to hide even if he were trying. An emptiness lurked there that was not the result of mere Darkness. Why? These two idiots wouldn’t be able to comprehend the reason.
“Ha. To think that something so insignificant as him could bring even the likes of you down to my level.” He chuckled, arms stiff by his side, watching them as they kept their distance.
“Revenge… you know that kind of thing will taint you, right? Call it what you want. Justice… Retribution… ‘Ridding the world of Evil’… It’s all the same. Kill me, torture me. Rip me to pieces a thousand times over.” He was done with them. Done leading them on, then falling behind. He was done being a puppet for a man who wasn’t even here anymore.
“Anything you do will never remove the dark mark on your hearts now. You could leave right now, and feel regret and anger. You can destroy me, but always have my blood on your hands.”
A wicked venom entered his tone, the force of his words becoming stronger and stronger. His hate, his envy, his rage, rearing its ugly head like a cobra about to strike.
“Fight me! Take your bloody revenge for your stupid pup of a ‘friend’! Nothing will ever change between us because you will never understand anything but your moronic, idiotic tunnel-vision view of Light and Darkness! You will all fall before me, one way or another, always and forever.”
Still, he did not move a muscle. His entire form rigid like ice-cold steel, his face still wrapped in the ebony shield of his mask- hidden from their view.】
