✗ ;【 “I was brought back to this dump at the most annoying time of the year.”
Que him staring at the Valentine’s shit in disgust. 】
kingdom hearts + group chat
With quick steps, Sho raced through District Beta, his search for Vanitas leading him into relatively unknown territory. Upon thinking it over, the boy never really knew where his friend lived, always coming across him in his ventures up on the surface. However, there was always a scent that the scarred male could follow, a smell of deep darkness that seemed to surround his comrade. It was that darkness that lead him a significant hole in the ground, a pit that was rank with it. Leaning over the side, he peered down into it.
“Yo, Vanitas! You alright in here? You didn’t die during that whole mess, did you?”

✗ ;【The last few weeks had been more arduous and exhausting than any he had experienced in a long while. Rivaling even when he had first become Master Xehanort's apprentice. It had tried his strength and made him question things that he had never thought to question before- and it had all started with that damned fight with Aqua and her idiot friend Terra.
The shattered frame of his helmet lay beside him where he sat. The ebony glass that was formed from his own darkness had been easy to reform, the dents in the metal cleanly shaped away by his will. But ever since then- he had been oddly fascinated with reshaping it into the image it had been when Aqua had attacked.
A familiar voice called him from his thoughts- another thing he couldn't quite understand was his connection with Sho Minazuki. But as he rose, easily backflipping to the lip of the pit... he couldn't quite bring himself to care at how odd it was that he cared.
"It's going to take a lot more than that to kill me, you know that." He replied, rising to meet his friend. That word still sat like dung in his mind. Ech.
"Especially not after I was given all my abilities back." A shrug, his helmet tucked under one arm. "Anyone who challenged me ended up dead, or worse. It’s stupid that I couldn’t stay that way."
It hadn't quite occurred to him that he had never actually been face to face with Sho before now.】
Event info
For Homeworld Vanitas;
Since I have a number of threads with Vanitas that are either unfinished, pending/ongoing, or not-quite finished, I’ll be fast-forwarding his present personality to include these experiences and morality. I’ve been meaning to do this in the first place, but the Event is giving me motivation to actually do it. He’ll be fighting for Hive City; while he won’t take the time to actively protect people, he’ll be fighting to essentially protect his territory. If anyone wants to include it, Vanitas will have Unversed running around the city fighting the Otherworlders. Feel free to attack them but he won’t be happy about it so try not to piss him off even more.
For Otherworld Vanitas;
Otherworld Vanitas is the opposite. In Otherworld canon, he never met Sho, he never had positive interactions with any of his castmates or other citta members. He will kill on sight, and has access to all of his abilities, including his OP as shit move Dark Cannon. His Unversed will be flooding the area as well, but are noticeably more menacing looking.
this is a super relevant psa to me, & maybe others.
please feel free to turn any ask responses or memes into threads, chats, or plot inspirations if you should so wish.
that type of thing doesn’t bother me.
It went without saying that Sho had given the sector one hell of a ride for all his anger. Blood drenched streets, destroyed property, and more corpses than living left upon the pavement, were only some of the signs of the boy’s murderous rage. Of course, this didn’t come without him paying his own price. He was worn down, beaten and bruised, for even with all his skill, sheer numbers did mean something, especially if Tsukiyomi wasn’t present.
However, the form that was approaching him now was one he could recognize from yards away, a familiar stench of darkness. The blood-drenched boy turned to face his comrade, one of the few that he would genuinely call his friend, though for obvious reasons, he wouldn’t say it aloud. It was plausible that he would offend Vanitas by doing so.
“It’s a long story.”
He wasn’t wrong, but then again, he wasn’t going anywhere either. With a slight groan, he took a seat on the ground, kicking a corpse off to the side to have a bit more space.
“There’s this man named Roman. Before I worked for the Grimleal, I worked for him, and still worked for him even through that. I owe him. A lot. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have anything in this world to speak of. None of the work, none of the perks, hell, none of the people I know, even you. So, the police caught him today. I decided to make sure they knew how fucking stupid they are for messing with my boss.”
✗ ;【Even as Vanitas approached, it was clear that Sho hadn't gotten away unscathed for his destruction. Not only were the streets a fashionable new shade of crimson, but the other teen himself was thoroughly coated in blood. Some of which he could assume belonged to Sho himself, judging by how battered he was.
"Not like I've got anything better to do."
Leaning against the building they had stationed themselves next to, Vanitas idly observed the corpse littered street while he got the run down of the situation.
Frankly, he couldn't understand what caused Sho to even care about this Roman guy. However he couldn't deny the fact that he did. It vaguely reminded him of the fervor that Ventus's stupid friends expressed when he threatened him. Although slightly irritated at the thought, he knew that the redhead was no where near being like them.
He also couldn't deny that for whatever reason, he felt compelled to assist Sho in his self-given task.
"If they didn't think someone like that wouldn't cause some retaliation after their capture, then they're more stupid than we could even comprehend." He snorted.
Resting his arms behind his head, he spoke slowly and thoughtfully, as though he were trying to figure something out.
"I feel like I'm obligated to get this guy, if he's the reason we were able to meet. You're one of the few people in this city who isn't a lightfucker with half a brain that I can actually tolerate."
"I'll help you get him out. Raise some hell, teach them a lesson, finish your awful painting job; even if you did put on one hell of a sho."】
…Hey, you there-
What exactly is Hive City?
[ A vague, general question. She asked the stranger with an insincere smile, not fully expecting an actual answer. But still… A bustling big city, in which residents are experiments. That didn’t sit well with her, yet for now, all she could do was try to gauge how similar or different this place was from her own world. ]
✗ ;【A newbie, huh? Vanitas didn’t make it a habit of answering questions out of the goodness of his heart, and he honestly didn’t plan on making it one. But for the moment, he wondered how much he could mess with the woman. And... well, what he said next wasn’t honestly all that far from the truth.
“It’s a place of nightmares and torture. The darkness seeps through the cracks of this reality and the longer you’re trapped, the easier it is for you to fall into madness. That is, unless you’re already there.”】
✗ ;【The word 'impressed' was among the vocabulary that Vanitas would use when it came to describing how he felt right now. To walk among the carnage that was borne from Sho's rampage... he couldn't help but let a genuine -if somewhat insane- grin come to his lips beneath his mask.
However much he enjoyed seeing the destruction, a single thought wiped away his pleasure. A notion he wasn't used to- an idea that seemed foreign and alien to his dark heart, but he couldn't shake. It wasn't as potent as those who were whole would feel; but for lack of a better word... he felt a modicum of worry.
Not that he recognized it as such- all he felt was the desire to find his comrade, and to inquire about the destruction. He couldn't care less if it was a purposeless endeavor... but something about the brutality and recklessness of it all made him wonder what the hell made Sho so pissed. Especially after the time between massacres.
After a good bit of searching, he hung back for the barest of moments before approaching the red-haired teen.
"I've heard of painting the town red, but I honestly hadn't thought of doing it myself." His tone wasn't entirely sarcastic, holding the faintest bit of humor.
"Gotta say, I'm impressed with the display. But..." Shaking his head, he continued. "The Hell caused the rampage? Normally I would assume you just did it just because. This though, this was pretty intense, even for us."】
“Hm.”
You've Got A Friend- || Closed
The boy couldn’t help but admire the weapon that Vanitas controlled, the intense looking blade that held no sheath. What was its story, the boy wondered. One day, he would find out if it killed him. But today was not that day. For now, it was fun and games at other people’s expense.
"A game? Hmm. Hold on, I’ve got something I’ve been wanting to try!"
Jumping back around to the cafe counter, he rummage around for a few utensils, laying down a line of ten knives before them. Separating them apart down the middle, he began to explain.
"Alright, game’s simple. Five knives, five shots. Throw em at your target, and get points! Ten for the torso, fifteen for the legs, twenty for the arms, and twenty-five for anything above the collar bone. Here’s the catch! If you can hit them with all five and not klll them, you get fifty points!”
He handed off a set of blades to the partner in crime, before grabbing his own, tossing one particularly menacing piece of equipment up in the air before catching it again.
"Drag the poor fuckers back here, and we’ll tally them back up! Sound good to you?"
✗ ;【Sho and Vanitas had become quite the terrible twosome. With the return of his Keyblade, Sho’s exceptional swordsmanship, and the unexplainable desire to just hang out with each other, they had quickly become a menace to the average populace.
It was refreshing to return to such a status.
Vanitas followed Sho to the counter, mindlessly stepping over the bleeding body of some stranger he didn’t care about. Much more interested in the game that his friend had thought up, it was easy to ignore the faint whimpering of the people whom hadn’t managed to escape.
Curious, the dark teen let his Keyblade dissipate into the air while his arms folded across his chest. Knives, huh? His experience didn’t lie with knife throwing, but he was sure he could do a decent job- but then the catch.
A low whistle came from behind his mask, followed shortly by a breathy chuckle.
“You sure do know how to make things interesting.” He commented, taking one of the sinister tools and testing the weight.
“I like it.” You could almost hear the grin in his voice.
Situating his own set so that he held them comfortably in one hand, leaving the other free, Vanitas held the blade of one between two fingers, gesturing at Sho with the handle.
“Games are no fun without any bets, though.” He snickered, turning and walking out. He could see a few of their ‘targets’ limping away outside the window.
“What happens when one of us wins?”】
terrestrem:
The closer they got down underground, the more he was somewhat nervous about this whole thing. There was a whole lot of things that could possibly go wrong with this; the difference of strength between him and Aqua at present more was too great not to be noticed, not to mention that all Terra had to rely on was his strength. With not even Earthshaker by his side, he was going to have a tough time with this, and the battle with darkness was going to be one of his most difficult yet. Even still, one thing still bothered him. The darkness was a never ending battle he had within him, and though he tried his best to control it and to lead the path of light, he still felt anger with what Vanitas has done. He remembers the night that they found Ven, and Aqua’s wails still haunt his memories and dreams at night. The anger he had didn’t subside at all— no, if anything, they increased once the two hid, keeping an eye on their target. He won’t say he’s perfect; he was far from perfect, he knew that, and he wasn’t going to be a hypocrite. However, he wasn’t about to let Vanitas talk smack about his latest ‘victory.’ The more the other talked, the more he clenches his fist, the grip on the wooden keyblade so tight he swears there’s a few splinters embedded in his skin. “I hope you remember who you’re going up against, Vanitas!” he shouts, trying to keep his temper under control. He was angry, oh he was angry, and he wanted to exact his revenge right here and now and be done with it. But just how long can he hold out… “Fight me! Take your bloody revenge for your stupid pup of a ‘friend’!” Breaking point. Terra comes from hiding, anger clearly expressed through cobalt eyes, gazing at the boy with a lethal amount of venom. “You forget who you’re talking to,” he says, getting ready. He blew it now, the swift execution to take revenge for the boy that laid sleeping at home, but he didn’t care. He couldn’t see it, but he almost can sense the smirk that laid behind the mask. “We trusted you… no, Aqua and Ven trusted you. Placed their faith in you, gave you a Wayfinder to bring you in, only to betray them. For what, Vanitas? You’ve nothing in this city to gain. Xehanort isn’t here to babysit you, and you have no one to protect you. You’ve pissed off the wrong people—” He readies his stance, waiting— “And I won’t forgive you for hurting Ven!” Now, he charges, acting before thinking. He’s fueled on anger now, and he was going to make Vanitas suffer for what he had done. Master Eraqus, please forgive me.
Ice crackled and sputtered at the tip of her keyblade, ready to be fired again, her knuckles clenched against the grip so tightly they were as white as the snow that was currently above ground. Aqua bit her tongue when she felt bile rise in her throat— Ven was not insignificant, and this in no way made them like Vanitas, he’d never fight for a friend, he didn’t have any in the first place, and he never would. He had blown his only small chance at redemption, and she was the one to have crushed the red Wayfinder in her own hand. Aqua readies herself to say something— call him the bastard he is, tell him that ridding of him will rid the city of evil for twenty-four hours, that Ven can no longer be consumed by him— but Terra beats her to it, and she knew she could always trust him to say what was on both of their minds, but she heard that edge in his voice and if the scientists hadn’t stripped him of the powers that came with it, she was sure there would be a miasma of darkness radiating from her friend. The thought made her sick, that Vanitas could take both of her friends away, Ven by his own hand and Terra by a thirst for revenge. Before she can react and say anything else before she can swiftly dispose of the masked boy— she would take his blood on her hands, Terra already had enough on his that wasn’t even by fault of his own— Terra lunged forth and Aqua swallowed a hiss at his impulse. They had fought side by side so many times before, she knew she should have anticipated him charging without a plan, he always acted on instinct, but for the past twelve years she had fought on her own. The formation of ice halted and instead a blue magic started at her hand and traveled down her blade before exploding in a burst as it found its target, which was not Vanitas but Terra, as she had cast a Barrier spell on him in anticipation. Aqua darted off to the side, forcing Vanitas to pick his battles and moves as she readied another shot of magic— this one an ice spell for him.
"You’re a coward, Vanitas! You have nothing to fight for now! Your Master is gone and Ven is whole!"

✗ ;【Underneath his mask, the smirk that Terra believed to be there slowly formed despite his boiling rage. An emotionless, mocking twist to his lips that for a moment he wished his expression was free from his mask. These fools.
Raising his wooden keyblade, the pathetic substitute that it was, Vanitas took his fighting stance as he replied to Terra’s enraged words.
“I haven’t forgotten.” He spoke smoothly, his own fury and unidentified emotions forcibly being put in check.
“I know all too well how easy it is to gain their trust. Honestly it was almost embarrassing to see. I mean, come on- I’m your enemy and you accepted me like a lost puppy out in the rain.” He laughed, letting the tip of his weapon wave from one to the other in a sweeping gesture.
“How stupid can you be?”
His tone was mocking, his body language arrogant and prepared. It was easy to get into their heads, and it was a simple thing to push the right buttons. What he said before still hung in the air like black tar dripping from the ceiling. Whether he died tonight or not, he would still be the victor in this little spat.
They would crumble into anger and hatred, slowly but surely. That, he was sure of.
As Terra’s ridiculous speech ended, he did just as Vanitas knew he would- recklessly charge forward with nothing but his own wooden keyblade. When the Barrier spell enclosed around him however, he knew that of the two he fought- only one was a real threat to him.
The human equivalent of a bull rushing him from the front, and the infuriatingly agile approach from Aqua on the side- he had few options, and he didn’t want to be pinched between the two.
With a startling amount of speed, Vanitas launched himself diagonally away from both of them, the tip of his weapon crackling with cold light. He wanted to keep both of them in sight, and constantly moving was his only option.
“Xehanort this, Xehanort that…” He sounded like an exasperated older brother talking to their dense younger sibling. “When are you going to get it through your skulls that I don’t care about him? I don’t need the old man to hold my hand, and I won’t let you two idiots get in the way of what I want!”
Tone darkening to something venomous, Vanitas regarded the woman’s final words with a razor-edged fury that surprised even him in its intensity.
“Whole? How the Hell can you think that’s real? I’m still here, and whatever Ven is right now- I can assure you that it is as fake as everything in this city is. It won’t last- and if I have to, I will personally make sure of that.”
As he moved he fired off a Blizzard spell, sending a wave of ice towards Aqua to try and off-set her course; the first thing he had to deal with was Terra. With him trying to hack at Vanitas the whole time, it would become difficult to deal with Aqua’s spells.
Immediately after he fired the Blizzard, he turned towards Terra; should the man continue his bull charge, Vanitas would smash his weapon into the Barrier with all his might before attempting to backflip away. The only way through that was to either wait it out, or smash it open.】

“Got a quarter? M’ gum ran outta flavor.”
“Why should I give you any of my money? Get lost, kid.”
"I believed in a lot of things I don’t believe anymore."
✗ ;【This world is unforgiving.
For every one that he had visited, for each new sight tosee, there has always been one thing that drove him to do what he did. Eachworld was harsh, and he made them harsher; to draw out that which he sought, without a single thought put towards the collateral damage caused by hisactions.
The only thing that he sought was what he believed to besalvation. The mending of his being. The end to his suffering. His onlyenjoyment in his life was causing everyone around him to hurt just as he did,and to rip down their walls so that they may feel the bloody and raw pain healso endured.
He believed in finding a way out of this hellish labyrinth. He believed that to find the exit he must do as his Master commanded- to forgethe x-Blade; to return from whence he came to finally return to the light thathis very soul craved. He would whip his other half into shape despite his ownweak and pathetic existence, to forge the perfect conditions for their joiningso that they both could become whole again.
So that he couldfinally be at peace.
But it was all a lie.
When he came to this world; this insignificant and putridcity, he was enraged by his restrictions. But upon finding his other half hereas well… he couldn’t have asked for a more perfect opportunity. At least, ithad seemed that way before that too was ripped from his grasp.
The lie continued, and after his hands had been coated inthe blood of his other, he swore to never put faith in such unobtainable ideassuch as ‘salvation’.
To believe was tobe weak.】
Let's play a game. Go to Google images and type your muse’s first name + the word "meme" and reblog with the best meme that appears.
It was an early evening, and the Nightmare Knight found that a pleasant stroll could be used to soothe his current introspective state. A younger him would never have settled for this, for a life of peace where destruction was the last thing he wanted. That was then, and this is now, he would tell himself. Certainly there was something he could- oh. Someone was trying to get his attention.
Who was this little masked man? He was reminded of that Zero fellow he had met some time before, with this strange, featureless helmet. Being able to see his own eyes glowing in the reflection certainly didn’t help the unsettling feeling it gave.
"I suppose you are speaking to me, then." He had responded as if the young fellow would ask ‘what are you’ to any other three-story-tall giant meandering down a sidewalk. "I am known as the Nightmare Knight. The Enemy of Dreamside."
He gestured towards the masked man, observing him carefully. “You need not tell me your name unless you wish to. If there is more you are wondering about, ask.” He folded his arms across his massive chest, leaning on his side now against a nearby building. “I am in no rush.”
✗ ;【Every part of him wanted to claim that this creature was a type of Heartless; the murky form clearly made from a dense shadow, bright yellow eyes, and a shape and size that defied logic. Anyone with a brain would think the same if they had come from his world.
But something was off about this one. Obviously the fact that he spoke to Vanitas was clue enough that he was no ordinary creature of the darkness. Interesting.
"I wasn't planning on it." He replied in regards to his name. Arms folding across his chest, he shifted his weight, simply trying to take in this Nightmare Knight's presence as they evaluated one another.
Dreamside? Never heard of it. More likely than not, it was the place of his origin and Vanitas couldn't care less about that. No, he was more interested in this being's mere existence.
"You look a hell of a lot like a type of creature that exist where I'm from, but they don't typically talk." He shrugged, "Do Heartless exist in your world, or is your kind normal back in this Dreamside place?"
His tone wasn't exactly sharp or aggressive, for once. Perhaps a tingle of bubbling jealousy if the latter of his question were in fact true, but otherwise all he felt was curiosity.】
