been reading the book
me: three hour movies are often unnecessary and boring. example: most of them
also me: give me five hour project hail mary cut or I'll-
new kind of guy dropped
he's unironically 100% correct and i will hear nothing against him
it's my boy's birthday!!
I love how it’s such a stereotype in Earth media that aliens are evil, but the second that Ryland sees the Blip A copy the Hail Mary he throws that out the window and goes, “yeah I can trust these guys.”
andy weir and his little space vloggers
I watched the movie. I came home. I stayed up until 3am making new text posts.
I got three hours of sleep. I am now stupid
Project Hail Mary hits a perfect balance between sci-fi, humor, and heart. We get the enormous scale of space, with some stunning cinematography from Greig Fraser, but also an intimate story grounded in emotion, due in large part to a phenomenal performance from Ryan Gosling.
The science stays grounded, allowing the story to feel real while leaving room to focus on larger themes of connection, collaboration, and compassion. Similar to The Martian, it’s just complicated enough to make it believable, but never overwhelming.
This also opens the door for a Spielberg-like sense of wonder, reminiscent of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial or Jurassic Park. The blending of sci-fi and sentiment works wonders here, filling us with a sense of hope and optimism that feels so needed right now.

I BEG y'all to READ THIS BOOK before seeing the movie or any of their UNBELIEVABLY BAD trailers!
Or if you cannot read the book / listen to the audio book before seeing the movie, try to avoid the trailers!
I cannot believe how badly the movie team is fumbling this situation. They could have had an incredible word of mouth movie experience if they just let people go into the film with the same information that the protagonist begins with. ALL you need to know is that he is alone on a spaceship trying to save the world and doesn't know why or what from. That's it. In the book, he doesn't even know his own name!!!!
If it's already been spoiled for you, I am so sorry. If it hasn't been, give yourself the delight of this experience. Avoid trailers and interviews - I cannot believe how much of the plot they are discussing openly before it's even out! I love this book so much, possibly more than its predecesor, "The Martian." Andy Weir managed a mystery in space and his narration allows the reader to uncover it alongside the protagonist, an honestly delightful experience!
Even the audiobook narrator, Ray Porter, recorded the book WITHOUT READING IT FIRST! So his suprise mimics the protagonist's surprise! What a wonderful way to approach the recording! (And frankly an incredible feat of VO).
To the team at Amazon marketing, shame on you. You've ruined this yourselves. I hope this movie still does well, but it could have been incredible if you had trusted the premise of the novel. If you had allowed the audience to go in like the protagonist and let the mystery unfold. By giving it away, you have tripped yourselves up at the finish line. Here's hoping you still made a good movie behind this absolute failure of marketing.
Movie is out March 20th!
Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace PROJECT HAIL MARY 2026 — dir. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller
I think the idea of entrusting this story to Lord and Miller is brilliant: their dynamic and playful style is perfect for balancing the drama of a man alone in space. The choice of Ryan Gosling, moreover, provides the vulnerable humanity necessary for us to empathize.
The fact that I'm finding a "Grace" after Resident Evil Requiem, where I played with a very special Grace, isn't just a coincidence. Could survival this time be a game we must win together, not apart?
;)
obsessed with this scary space monster
and the thing about both Project Hail Mary and The Martian is that both stories are grabbing you by the shoulders, looking you in the eyes, and from behind the fourth wall Andy Weir is smiling at you saying "you are never as alone, or as far gone, as you think you are"
hottest fucking thing one can read, really (x)
