i really really liked backrooms but i refuse to watch kane parson's youtube series because i want no more information. i dont want any lore i dont wanna know about any squiggly monsters. im perfectly content with it being this mostly unknowable neutral thing that inexplicably exists and we dont understand why or what it means and i like that its just a sort of adjacent plane of reality that is influenced by the one we live in for better or worse. i dont wanna know anything. i dont wanna understand anything dont tell me dont even TRY to tell me

ive always really really really loved liminal spaces and the backrooms as a concept and the interpretation that its this Thing that just Is and doesnt have an agenda and "remembers" things and THATS why its unsettling is because of OUR psychology and not because its A Scary Evil Place is REALLY FUCKING COOL!!!!!!! im also one of those people who is against the like. idk how to say it. robloxification??? of the backrooms? i know the original post mentioned potential entities, but ive never liked that idea. not until this movie anyway. establishing that the "monsters" are just mindless half-remembered imitations built from nothing but impressions of the real thing and that real things' feelings, it makes them 1. part of the environment and a product of it rather than it being A Scary Demon thats there because its in The Scary Dimension and wants to Kill You because its Evil and Scary 2. actually much more terrifying because theyre unpredictable. clark's wife(?)s still life suddenly bolting out of the room after being mostly unmoving and was fucking scary in of itself even if you ignore why it did that

idk if this is what the movie was going for, but i do like the idea that the still lifes genuinely dont feel anything. i like the idea that literally all they do is copy things. it kind of adds more weight to her running away from captain clark. if you say the still lifes can experience emotions and fear, her running away from the clark still life just becomes like. An understandable reaction. if you say that it ran away because the backrooms remembered that she was terrified of her husband, and thats what scared things do, even if that emotion isnt being genuinely experienced by anything. that is way way way way way way way more fucked up to me LMAO

and i know it’s like. oh whatever s is being a whiny bitch about transhet stuff again. the “it’s june so it’s illegal to be straight” meme and the like is just a joke, it’s not that deep, etc

but like it kind of is that deep. people genuinely think that straight is the antonym of queer. and that leaves no room for straight trans people. cis people— including cis queer people— and sometimes even non-straight trans people— think that trans people can’t be straight. that even trans people who are exclusively attracted to the other binary gender don’t “really count” as straight, because they’re trans. and that’s bc they fundamentally don’t see straight trans people as our real genders. and these are real ideas that i have repeatedly heard.

something something. it’s just a joke but the joke is rooted in ideas that you’re reinforcing. and when it’s not a joke— when you’re talking about queer issues or queer media and you happen to use “straight” as your synonym for “not queer” that also reinforces the exclusion of straight trans people.

and for the most part, especially irl, i try to be a good sport about not really being seen as straight, or about the “straight is Bad and not really queer” comments. but sometimes i get to be a whiny bitch about it and cis folks (and tbh non-straight trans folks) should pay attention to transhets for once
