In My Daughters Eyes // tess-black
It would have only taken a touch. One simple stroke of her skin over the finely polished gold for the memories to return, piece by piece. Dreams would come to her first. small glimpses into the past she had long forgotten. Of her her childhood and the man she only knew as a shadow in the corner of her room at night. How many nights had he stood there in the purple room where she rested as a small girl?
His heart clenched at the memories. The pain he had felt the day he parted with her mother… … .

"Calm down, calm down..." she chanted softly under her breath, as her heels clicked as rapid as her heartbeat against the marble flooring on her way to the restroom. She roughly pushed the door open as she came in, causing the handle to hit the wall before it slowly closed once more. She headed straight to the nearest cubicle, deciding to relieve herself now before she made an accident later, because a few minutes ago, she was so closed to wetting her pants right then and there.
"Calm down..."
She went to the sink next to wash her hands. They trembled under the running water, and then she looked at herself in the mirror. Beads of sweat were emerging from her forehead as her face turned clammy from her inner fear and panic, and no matter how many times she told herself to calm, her racing heart didn't stop, and if anything, it only got worse.
Her eyes flashed. She froze, letting the water keep on running as she watched a scene unfold in her mind as though she was watching from an old theater.
She saw herself, lying on a bed in an oh, so familiar purple room. Although, it was dark, and she could barely make out the forms of the shelves she had remembered filling with so many books--a lot of them she had yet to read, her desk--messy with half-finished homework and failed pieces of art, her closet, and...and...
She gasped.
There was a shadow, standing in the corner of the room. There was no mistake. She would have took it as her coat rack, but her coat rack was beside the door, right across the room. This shadow...was a person.
She took another sharp intake of breath as she was thrown back into reality, and then, she took another, and another...until she found herself holding onto the edges of the sink for support as she could feel her airways tightening. 'Oh, no...' was all she thought. Her other hand searched for her pockets, even though the thing she was looking for was forgotten at home. No, she didn't forget. She left it there--her inhaler.
Her hold went limp and she fell to the floor, unable to call for help as all she could do was wheeze, sounding like a balloon that was slowly losing its air as she was losing hers no matter how much she gasped for it.

“I bought your autobiography,” she shared. “I wasn’t fond of reading then, so it was the first book I read from cover to cover.” The only books she was willing to read during her younger days was her textbooks—books that she really needed to read and learn from, but she couldn’t resist not getting Rise of the Ogre as soon as she found out about it. “Your patience with Murdoc amazes me,” she said, keeping the stick in between her fingers.
“Yeah, there’s that…” 2D plucked the butt from his lips and ground it out with the heel of his shoe. He had forgotten about that thing. Truth be told, he hadn’t even read it.
A frown crossed his face at the mention of the name. “Eh…I guess we’ve all kinda accepted that Mudz is always gonna be that way. I kinda sorta owe him after he saved my life anyway…At least that’s what he’s told me. Brought me out of my coma an’ all.” It didn’t mean he had to love the guy, though. Just tolerate him.
Any person in their right mind would think that his relationship with the satanist was unhealthy. If she could, she would be telling him to stop tolerating Murdoc altogether, because abuse was just...wrong. Instead, she chose to shut her mouth about it. She didn't know the guys enough to complain. It wasn't her place. And also, for selfish reasons--she didn't want the band to split up.
"How is he, by the way?" she asked. "And Noodle and Russel?"
“Do you really think I would harm you? No, I would not. But tell me, do you have any clue who I am?”
That was a question with an obvious answer. Of course, she knew who he was. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be quaking in her boots right now. “Lok-ki, the G-God of Mischief,” she stuttered. “I was there when y-you attacked M-Manhattan.”
“You were? Hmm…” He stepped back and looked her over. “I am… I am sorry for that. I was not in my right mind, you have nothing to fear.”
'He wasn't in his right mind?! That's it?!' she screamed in her thoughts. It was such a light excuse for a heavy crime, but she couldn't complain, unless she had a death wish. "I-It's fine," she said. "I just--does anyone else know you're here?"
"No miss. I just moved here about a day or two ago. I am from England.." he tilted his head to the side. "I would never... follow anyone like that.
"Okay," she just said, but it still didn't kill that feeling of wariness around him. "Sorry," she muttered. "You just never really know who to trust in this city."

"Not really. She was...in a dream but..." he smiled looking at her. "Maybe its Tess... you look quite similar to her..."
She blushed. 'Is he...hitting on me?' she thought, but as she glanced at the drawing again, it was then that she realized that...he was right. She closed the sketchbook and returned it to him, practically throwing it to his lap as she was quite worried about the discovery. She found all this to be more creepy than romantic. "Were you...following me before this?" she asked, and had it not been for her morals, she would have used the word 'stalker', rather than sugar-coating it. She couldn't look back at him, keeping her eyes trained to her knees.

She took a breath as she pulled out a stick from his pack, putting it in between her lips before she used his lighter, taking a few short puffs as she ignited it. “I sleep,” she said with a sad grin as she handed the lighter back to him. “Trust me. If you want to keep this conversation going, you don’t want to talk about my life.”
That wasn’t entirely true. She has had a few interesting points, but none of them were something she was willing to talk about. As exciting as New York was, those incidents she spoke of, from the monsters to the invasions, were tragedies.
2D messily shoved his cigarettes back into his pocket. “Oh…” he said, slightly disappointed, “Well, you already know ‘bout my life…I fink.” He paused and scratched his head. It was hard to tell what the press released about people these days. They were probably all lies now, since the press hadn’t bugged them in forever. As far as he knew, the fans were only kept up-to-date based on a few broadcasts Murdoc had tailored together. “I guess if you’ve got any questions I can answer ‘em. Things have been kinda borin for me recently so I don’t got much goin on either.” he suggested with a shrug.

“Hey, what’s up? I’m Robin the Boy Wonder. Welcome to Gotham City!”
“Oh, the Boy Wonder!” she beamed, casually pointing her finger at him and genuinely excited to meet the young hero. “Yeah, I’ve heard of you. Wow. Is this how Gotham normally greet tourists?”
“Of course not. They usually greet you by mugging you. You’re just lucky that you ran into me first.”
She frowned momentarily, eyes widening at his seemingly joking phrase. She was already told of Gotham’s reputation about its crime rate, but hearing it from one of its heroes gave it more of a chill. “Lucky me, indeed,” she agreed, the smile slowly coming back. “You’re cute. Is Batman as friendly as you are?”
He laughed. “Not even close. He somehow still gets all the ladies though.”
She couldn't blame those ladies. Most of them went for the mysterious type. Even she, herself, couldn't help but see him as someone...appealing. "You're a kid," she pointed out with a soft chuckle. Even with the mask on, by the way he spoke, it seemed to her that he was just a normal boy his age. "Trust me when I say you have no idea of the attention being given to you."
{All caught up! ...I think.}
{Like this if I owe you! :D}
”Well met, Strangers.. if you are in the right place then I welcome you with open arms. I am Tira. It is a pleasure to meet you.”
“Hi, Tira,” she greeted in return with a smile of her own. “My name is Tess. Umm…where exactly is this ‘right place’?” she couldn’t help but ask, unsure of where she really was after her mindless walking.
Tess… what an interesting name.. though one somewhat familiar. ”You are in Manhattan. The village, to be precise.. we are but an hours walk from Times Square.. if that gives you any permanent bearing.” She smiled, always excited to meet wayward travelers.
She didn't know how her name could be considered interesting. In her opinion, it suited her. It was just as dull as she was. "What? Oh, of course," she had to slap her own forehead at that. "I can't believe I got lost near where I live." She pointed to her temple. "Bad sense of direction, y'know?"
