the small things — zoro (drabbles)
(1) he keeps an eye on you (and doesn't let sanji too close)
“um… guys…” usopp’s trembling call was the only warning you got. "i think... we're heading straight for the waterfall! we're going to fall! we're all going to die!"
as if to prove him right, the going merry shook violently under the wrath of wild waves. nami burst from the cabin, where half the crew had been relaxing. a gust of wind nearly knocked her against the door. “what’s going on? why are we changing directions?”
the sniper ran past her in a flash, straight in the safety of the cabin, screaming incoherent explanations. a particularly brutal shock nearly tipped the merry over and your body flew against your will, crashing against the mast.
“brace for impact!” the yell tore through the noise, but the pain in your back paralysed you for a few seconds, rendering you unable to even identify the voice.
“shit,” you muttered through gritted teeth, moving despite the haze, your forearm instinctively wrapping around a cord in extremis. a second later, the entire boat was floating in the air, before it plummeted down like an anchor.
yellow flashed in the corner of your eyes. “y/n-darling, i am coming to you, hold on to me!” sanji’s unmistakable melodious call rose above the sea's roars and you blinked, ignoring the flying boxes, tools, and items to zero-in on the cook carefully making his way to you.
even though your tiptoes barely stuck to the wooden ground, the strain in your biceps was effective enough to keep you onboard. you shook your head. “i’m fin-“
a powerful arm slid around your waist, and suddenly you were pushed against a wall of muscles, feet flat on the ground, finally stabilized.
the distinct scent of musk, sea salt, and booze invaded your senses. your stomach flipped on itself. and not because you were falling toward your certain death.
zoro barely spared you a glance as he held your body flushed against his, probably physically closer than you’d ever been, his large hand gripping your side like it was the most normal thing to do. like his fingertips weren’t burning your exposed skin.
his other hand was wrapped firmly around one of his swords. its edge was planted deep in the floor right beside you – when did he even do that? – and from the tension in his upper body's muscles, you knew that was what kept him and you grounded.
the brutal landing came too quick for you to ponder further on zoro's actions. your knees buckled under the shock, and you had to pull on the cord with all your strength to stay upwards. meanwhile, the swordsman himself lost his grip on his weapon, nearly tumbling over. yet his arm tightened around you, his large body instinctively shielding you from the rain of equipment that came crashing down on the deck.
"good lord," you muttered when the merry finally steadied, letting out a shaky exhale as you took in the mess around you.
zoro finally looked down at you, scanning your face. "you good?"
you nodded, trying not to avoid his gaze, "yea. thank you." the heat of his skin was still burning you.
a loud, exaggerated cough interrupted your trail of thoughts. sanji stood right behind the two of you, his eyes narrowed at your position, fulminating. “oi, marimo. get off y/n.”
the swordsman's arm fell from your waist as he stepped away from you and you suddenly fell cold to go all up in the blond’s face. he scowled at the cook. "got a problem, waiter?"
here we go again, you sighed internally. like you hadn't almost all died.
you ignored the tingles in your body and robin's pointed look - she had survived the fall by making a couple of hands bloom around her - and walked away.

AN: I was gonna add Law to this but I had no idea how it would play out?? Maybe if I find other characters with hats I’ll do a part two with him. Anyways, enjoy! I struggled trying to stay ic
LUFFY blinked awake from the nap he’d accidentally taken on you. He could still feel wood brushing against his leg. His cheek had been resting somewhere between your shoulder and neck. For a second, he stayed there, eyes half lidded, mind blissfully empty.
But it was hard not to notice something was missing.
He shot up so fast it nearly made you jump.
Both hands immediately flew to the top of his head, a little hesitant, nothing. Then his fingers patted around the ground insistently. Luffy’s expression crumpled into deep concentration as he crouched to look around the deck.
“Where’d it go..?” He huffed, face beginning to deepen into a frown.
You watched him for another few seconds before a laugh escaped. His head snapped toward the sound.
“Oh.” You reached up, fingers brushing the familiar straws resting on your head. “Sorry for borrowing your hat while you were asleep. It got kind of hot.”
You adjusted it absentmindedly, splinters poking your finger. “Was that okay? I can give it back now, my bad.”
Luffy looked at you.
And.. stayed looking.
His mind, usually so quick to jump from one thing to another, had simply taken a moment.
The straw hat sat just a little too big on you, casting a soft shadow over your eyes. A few strands of your hair had escaped beneath the brim. You’d put it on so casually, like it wasn’t the single most important thing he owned.
It should’ve made him nervous, or maybe a bit easier to take the hat back.
Naturally, he trusted his crew with his things, and this wasn’t the first time he’s seen one of them worn it.
So why did this feel different? His heartbeat gave one hard thump against his chest. He blinked, his mind lingering on a single idea.
You looked nice with his hat. The thought appeared so naturally that he didn’t question it.
Actually, really nice.
Weird.
He scratched the back of his neck, still staring. He didn’t really know how to explain it, not yet. It just made him feel happy.
“No.” The word escaped before he even realized he’d spoken.
You tilted your head. “What?”
He leaned closer without thinking, his grin returning with all the earnestness that made Luffy, well.. Luffy. It surprised you nonetheless.
“Keep it on.” His smile widened, pressed the hat against your head. “I like it!”
It was your turn to stare. “You like it?”
“Yeah!” He answered as if it were obvious, folding his arms subconsciously. “What’s wrong with that?”
“There…” You felt yourself grow hesitant from the way he stared at you. He’s never looked this interested in something that wasn’t food before, “..There isn’t anything wrong with it.”
“So you’ll keep on wearing it?”
A awkward laugh escaped you. “Sure, why not.” You shrugged your shoulders, easing slightly. “I’ll keep wearing it.”
Luffy’s grin somehow grew even wider. He plopped himself back beside you, close enough that your shoulders bumped.
It was the same position as earlier.
But it still wasn’t normal at all though.
Every time he glanced elsewhere, his attention wandered right back to you wearing his hat. His stomach fluttered strangely. He frowned at the feeling for all of three seconds before deciding it wasn’t bad.
He rested his chin in his palm, still smiling to himself. “You should wear it more.”
You raised an eyebrow, trying to get comfortable while the sea was calm. “But no one gets to wear it.” You stated bluntly.
“I know.” He leaned back into the wood. “But you can.”
As sweet as it was, you knew how much he loved the damn thing. He’d take it back by dinner time. So maybe this one time, you can enjoy the attention.
ACE wasn’t panicking.
..Okay, maybe just a little.
It wasn’t because he thought it’d been stolen. There were only so many places something could disappear to on the Moby Dick. Still, it was his hat. He’d grown so used to the weight of it, it felt strange without it now.
Crewmates didn’t even offer much help, besides Marco at least.
He pushed the door to the infirmary open, “Hey Deuce—” His sentence died on his tongue.
You were sitting beside Deuce, elbows resting on the table as the two of you looked over the same medical textbook. At least, that was what he’d noticed first.
The second thing was his hat perched comfortably atop your head. You glanced up as the door creaked open, grinning immediately when you spot Ace.
Ace’s mouth felt oddly dry. “Is..” His brain refused to cooperate. “..Is that my hat?”
You stood at an almost infuriatingly leisurely pace, brushing invisible wrinkles from your clothes before taking a few steps toward him.
The brim dipped slightly over your eyes.
It looked ridiculously good. His heart skipped a beat, though to be honest that was far from the first time you’ve done that to him.
You stopped just within arm’s reach. “Is that okay?” Your voice had gone quieter now, almost uncertain. “I only seen it on the floor, so..”
Ace stared, he’d seen people wear it before. Hell, he’s definitely dropped it more than he’d like when fighting.
His face suddenly felt warm. Ah, damn it, you were waiting for an answer.
Say something.
Anything.
“Are you kidding?” A laugh burst from him before he could stop it. “That’s so hot.”
You blinked, face immediately shocked from the bluntness.
Even Deuce looked up from his book.
Ace looked just as speechless as everyone else. Heat exploded across his cheeks. “I mean—” He rubbed the back of his neck, laughing awkwardly. “I meant—you just…” He gestured vaguely toward your face. “Nevermind.”
You covered your mouth, trying not to laugh for the sake of everyone.
“Shut up.” He huffed at the end. “If you’re gonna keep laughing, at least come here.” Without waiting for permission, his fingers found your cheek almost absentmindedly. He gave it a light pinch, grinning.
He didn’t have a single plan, if he was already himself, there wasn’t much left to lose. “There.”
“There what?”
“I got my revenge for you laughing.”
“You embarrassed yourself.”
“I know.”
“You could’ve just said I looked nice.”
“Hey! I.. I know.”
Your laughter spilled out this time, bright enough to make the corners of his own mouth lift despite himself.
He’d wanted to tease you. You’d been wearing his hat with that unmistakably sly expression, practically inviting him to stumble over himself.
His hand, still resting against your cheek, loosened without him realizing.
“Besides,” he said more quietly, “when you’ve got my hat..” He tugged the brim down just a little over your forehead. “I’ve got an excuse to come find you whenever I want to.”
You looked at him with an amused sort of fondness. “You did that anyway.”
He thought about it for a second, “…Guess I do.” There wasn’t really an argument against that.
“Then just take it back.” You said, grabbing the top of it.
He looked at the hat. “Nah.”
“No?”
“I think it looks better on you.” The words slipped out much more quietly than the first compliment.
God, the things you did to him.
A loud sigh came from across the room. “Can you two do this literally anywhere else?” When you both turned, you realize Deuce hadn’t moved from his chair. His face was deep in the medical textbook, trying his best to ignore you guys.
SABO had noticed his hat was missing long before he actually started looking for it.
Not because he was particularly attached to the object itself, he was— but because he’d developed the habit of absentmindedly reaching up to adjust it whenever he was thinking.
The moment his gloved fingers met nothing but blond hair for the fourth time, he finally sighed. “That’s weird.”
He retraced his steps through the halls, asking a few passing revolutionaries if they’d happened to see it.
Most hadn’t, and Koala looked especially innocent. That alone should’ve warned him for whatever he came across.
Eventually, he found you standing on one of the quieter balconies overlooking the sea, elbows resting against the railing. His top hat sat perfectly atop your head, you hadn’t noticed him yet.
For just a moment, Sabo forgot to move. The afternoon sun caught the edge of the goggles wrapped around the hat. It was.. unexpected? Yea. The hat had always been unmistakably his, seeing it on someone else should’ve looked odd.
Instead it looked strangely natural— his pulse stumbled once. How curious.
He’d always thought you were lovely, that wasn’t exactly groundbreaking information for him to start realizing.
But this was different.
Something about seeing you wearing something so distinctly his made the image linger in his mind far longer than it should have. It suited you, very well.
His lips curved before he even realized they had.
Ah. So that’s what everyone’s been smiling about.
You turned at the faint sound of his footsteps, the second your eyes met, a sly smile spread across your face.
“Hello.” Sabo folded his arms comfortably, “I was wondering where my hat had disappeared to.”
You reached up, pretending to feel the brim for the first time. “Oh?” A perfectly innocent blink. “Is this yours?”
He almost laughed. “It bears a striking resemblance.”
You tilted your head thoughtfully. “I suppose it does.”
He took a slow step closer. “You’ve stolen from the Chief of Staff.”
“I didn’t think you’d mind.”
“And what gave you that impression?”
Your smile only widened, leaning back into the railing. “You haven’t asked for it back.”
Bold.
He could respect that. It’s just unfortunate for you, you’d picked the wrong person to play this game with. His smile became just a little sharper, tilting his head.
“I haven’t?”
“No.”
“I wonder why.” He stopped directly in front of you now. Close enough that you had to tip your chin up ever so slightly to maintain eye contact. “But where would the fun be in that?”
For the first time, your confidence faltered.
He leaned forward just enough for the brim of the hat to lightly bump against his forehead.
“So.” His voice dropped into something softer. “Have you finished admiring my stuff?”
That caught you off guard. “I wasn’t admiring—”
“No?”
“I was borrowing it because it was hot.” You rolled your eyes, pushing him back with your palm. With the way he willingly let it happened, you could only guess his next move.
“And the weather became unbearable only after you found my hat?”
“Maybe.” You shrugged.
He hummed thoughtfully, eyes never leaving yours. “Okay.”
You blinked, eyes narrowing. He wasn’t particularly the guy to go on like this, you’d know. Or maybe you’re learning something new about Sabo. “..You’re fine with it?”
Quite frankly, you were hoping for more of an annoyed Sabo who was pish posh about a hat.
“Why not, the hat suits you.”
You opened your mouth, but it was too dry.
There wasn’t the slightest hesitation, he was so casual about it as if you’d naturally grow accustomed to the bluntness. Without warning, he leaned in again.
How unfair, he wasn’t even flustered. Meanwhile, your brain had completely been all absorbed with him. Satisfied with your speechlessness, Sabo lightly adjusted the brim for you.
“There.” He stepped back to admire his work. “Looks nice.”
“You…” You finally found your voice. “You aren’t even going to ask for it back?”
He smiled. “Eventually.” He clasped his hands behind his back, eyes sparkled with unmistakable amusement.
You narrowed your eyes. “I feel like I’m being manipulated.”
“You are.”
He admitted it so cheerfully that it robbed you of any comeback. “You could at least pretend to deny it.”
Damn, you were more irritated than him.
“But then I’d be lying.” His gloved hand rested lightly atop the hat one last time before he gave the brim a tiny, playful tap.
He hadn’t even needed to take the hat back. In fact, leaving it exactly where it was was far more rewarding.
After all, every time he caught sight of you wearing it, he’d get to watch that same expression bloom across your face all over again.

಄ zoro roronoa (takes place during egghead)
─── zoro can’t sleep without you.
as strange as it sounds, he can’t drift off until you’re in his arms, pressed against his chest. this even applies to his daily naps, no matter how short they might be. he yawned, stretching his arms behind his head before leaning back against the ship’s dock. the two of you were supposed to be guarding it—alongside brook—while the rest of the crew was with the vegapunks.
“[first name],” he called out just as brook had poured you a glass of tea.
you turned immediately at the sound of your name. “yes, zoro—?” you responded, already recognizing his usual sleeping posture. “i’ll be there in a second. just let me finish this tea… ooh! hot, hot.” you blew on the steam before taking another sip.
he grunted and sat up. “drink quickly, or i won’t be able to sleep.”
you rolled your eyes playfully. “yes, you will. you can’t sleep without me anyway.”
he frowned, knowing you were right. clicking his tongue, he walked over to where you were sitting at the table near the edge of the ship. he sat on the floor beside your chair and leaned against it—somehow managing not to tip it over.
“you’re going to fall asleep like that?” you asked, raising an eyebrow.
“you’re taking too long,” he explained, crossing his arms and shutting his eyes. “i had to improvise.”
you took another sip and started stroking his hair with your fingers. “alright then. when i finish this, i’ll come lay beside you.” you assumed zoro had drifted off shortly after, lulled by your gentle touch and soft movements. surely, with your fingers running through his hair, he should be asleep in no time.
well, you thought.
you finished the glass brook had poured for you and left it on the table for him or sanji to clean later. you settled beside zoro, making yourself comfortable, only to see his eye open. you flinched. “you’re still awake?!”
he uncrossed his arms and laid back on the deck. “i’ve been this whole time. my arms are empty.”
you sighed and scooted closer until you were lying on top of him, your head resting on his chest as his arms wrapped around your waist. “okay, okay,” you whispered. “go to sleep now.”
and just like that, roronoa zoro fell asleep without any trouble.
“yohohoho—oh.” brook paused mid-step, taking a few steps back as he realized what was happening. “what if i join in on the cuddling? wouldn’t that be a great surprise yohoho—!”
still asleep, zoro suddenly tossed a sword in brook’s direction. it landed with a thud, piercing straight through the ship’s wall.
“HOW DID HE DO THAT?!”
಄ monkey d. luffy
─── everyone but luffy can see the way he treats you differently from everyone else. no matter how many times his own crew called him out for his behavior toward you, he would brush it off and insist he did the same with everybody else—even though that wasn’t entirely true. wherever you went, luffy was always down to tag along, just to make sure you had a companion—even if it wasn’t strictly necessary.
he knew you were as strong as the rest of the straw hats. but for some reason, he never wanted to leave your side. during battles, he would suggest you—mostly just you—to come with him. and when you swallowed nervously, knowing you were about to face the toughest enemies on the seas, he would reassure you, promising he would keep you safe, no matter what.
and he was right. always.
when night fell, he had walk down the ship until he reached your room.
knock! knock!
by now, it was practically a daily routine. he would show up and ask if he could spend the night with you because he had had a ‘bad dream.’ (you still weren’t sure if that was true or not.) if you refused, he would latch onto you until you gave in. there was no point in rejecting your captain’s nightly request.
you opened the door, and he sprang forward, hugging you tightly. you stumbled backward. “what kind of nightmare did you have this time?” you asked, trying to peel him off, but it was useless.
he giggled, looking you in the eye. “none! i just want to be here.”
the door was still open—anyone could walk by and see what the captain and his crewmate were up to. but everyone knew luffy slept in your room by now. it wasn’t a secret.
“okay…?” you raised a brow. “go sleep on the couch—”
“can i sleep on your bed this time?”
“…you want me to take the couch instead?”
“we can both lay on the bed together!” his big grin was impossible to resist.
you didn’t enjoy seeing luffy frown, so you sighed and led him over to your bed. “...alright.”
you didn’t realize your bed wasn’t really big enough for two people. you had your back turned to luffy, facing the opposite direction. you exhaled, trying to sleep—until you felt a rubbery hand grab your shoulder. you shifted, turning to face your captain. his face appeared right in front of yours, your noses almost touching. you nearly fell off the bed, but his hand kept you from doing so.
“yes, luffy?” you swallowed, feeling heat crawl up your neck.
“i have a feeling you’re going to fall,” he said. “want me to hold you so you don’t?” he blinked innocently, silently hoping you would say yes.
you sweat-dropped at him. “i mean… sure.”
his arm wrapped around you in an instant. “good night, [first name]!”
“night.”
and with the door still open, sanji, chopper, and robin walked by, heading to grab a glass of water. when they passed your room, they paused.
sanji’s mouth dropped. “WHAT?!”
chopper loudly shushed him. “shhh! you’ll wake them up!”
robin smiled warmly. she didn’t say anything. but she did think one thing.
“so cute.”
಄ portgas d. ace
─── you never quite knew if portgas d. ace’s clinginess was something you adored or simply tolerated in your relationship. there was no denying you loved his affection—you craved it—but there were moments when it tipped into something harder to manage. the crew on whitebeard’s ship knew to disappear the second the two of you were in the same space, keen to avoid ‘interrupting something.’ however… whitebeard himself remained unaware of the unspoken rule.
“ace… would you let go? i’m trying to fix this tear in the top.” you pleaded, prying at his arms wrapped around you. his bare chest pressed against your back, his chin nestled in the crook of your neck, and frustration flickered under your skin. “i can’t even move my arms..!” you huffed, finally voicing the issue.
only then did he loosen his hold, though his head stayed tucked close. “thank you.” you breathed out, picking up the sewing materials again to mend the large hole in the shirt you wore. but your relief lasted all of a minute before his arms were wrapped around you once more.
“ace—!”
“it’s not enough.” he murmured, his voice muffled against your shoulder.
you turned your head to face him. “what’s not enough?”
“i need to be in your skin.” he admitted, pulling you even closer.
you sighed, no longer bothering to resist. “is this not close enough for you?”
“nope.” the word vibrated against your skin as he shook his head. dropping the sewing materials again, you surrendered to his hold—like you always did. it was just one of the many times ace had derailed your plans, prioritizing his need for your attention above everything else.
“did you already wash up?” he asked, inhaling deeply at your neck. “you always smell good.”
“no, i was going to take a bath after fixing this.” you said, gesturing to the shirt on the floor. he didn’t so much as glance at it—nor did he care that he was the reason for your delay.
“fix it later, or have pops do it himself.” he yawned. “why don’t we bathe together?”
“i don’t trust pops with my equipment—seriously?” you blinked, realizing what he had suggested. “i swear, you’re getting clingier every day.”
“how could i not?” he grinned, lifting his head just enough to meet your gaze. “everyone should know you’re mine.”
“i think they already do.” you muttered under your breath. with a reluctant sigh, you finally untangled yourself from his grip. “fine. get the bath ready.”
“i wanna get it ready with you—”
“you’re so needy!”

The sea rocks Sunny gently.
It was a calm afternoon. Some of the crew decided to take a nap, while some were doing their own things.
You were quietly humming to yourself while you strode around the Sunny, looking for the particular green headed man. You have been walking around, opening every door you could find, flipping through things in every corner trying to find Zoro. And the last spot that you hadn’t checked yet was the crow’s nest.
You could only giggle at the sight of Zoro sprawled out on the bench, sleeping peacefully. With a careful steps, you kneeled in front of him. Your fingertips brushed against his cheeks as softly as you could to avoid waking him up, but what did you even expect from the swordsman.
Zoro’s hand held your wrist with his eyes still closed, “What are you doing?”
“Can I kiss you?” The question made him shot his eyes open, and his lips tugged into a smirk.
“You don’t need to ask.” He gently pulled you closer to him, his other hand holding the back of your head as your lips melted into his.
When you pulled away the first thing you noticed was not his smile, but the red stain of your lipstick on his lips. You pursed your lips together trying to suppress your laughter.
“You’re blushing” Zoro said, his voice playful.
You slapped his shoulder, embarrassed. “I’m not!”
His smirk only grew bigger, and his brow raising. “Oh yeah?”
You leaned closer to him, making sure your nose touched his. With a smirk, you teased him “I can kiss you more, you know?”
Zoro didn’t waver—of course he didn’t. Instead of backing away, he also leaned in, his lips brushing subtly against yours. It was enough to feel his lips and to make your heart race, but not enough to let him win.
“Sure.” He whispered, his low voice sounding seductive as ever.
A mischievous smile spread across your face. You cupped both of his cheeks, gently leaving kisses on his face, one after another. You pressed your lips on his forehead, to his nose, then his cheeks, even his chin, and then his lips again. You didn’t stop, not until your lipstick had faded.
Zoro’s eyes were closed, smiling from ear to ear. No one knew about it, but Zoro had always been a big softie. Perhaps it was only because of you, but it was something that you had always loved about him.
“Well?”
“You’re relentless.”
“You love it.”
Zoro took your hand, pressing a soft kiss on it. And then he whispered, “Always.”
After spending a few more minutes with Zoro in the crow’s nest, you decided to let him sleep more. It had already been an hour since then.
Unfortunately, the peaceful day didn’t last long when marine ships started attacking the Thousand Sunny.
“What’s happening?!” The door to the kitchen opened, revealing Luffy with Sanji behind him.
“It’s supposed to be a peaceful day!” One by one the crew members went towards the deck to position themselves for a counterattack.
“Where’s Zoro?!” Asked Nami, clearly frustrated that the swordsman isn’t in position yet.
But before any of you could answer, the swordsman in question jumped from the crows nest to the deck of the Sunny. Zoro’s face as annoyed as ever, but the red stains on his face didn’t go unnoticed by the crew.
“What? Am I the enemy?” Zoro grumpily asked when he noticed the crew staring at him.
“It’s nothing!” Nami and Robin both gave you a knowing look, while the others simply laughed it off and focused again on the enemies.
Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji charged forward towards the enemy ships, while the rest was left to protect Sunny.
When Zoro landed on one of the ship, the marines were all trembling down because of fear. The menace swordsman’s boots clanked across the wooden floor, his dark aura was enough to make them clutched their swords in fear.
“R-ronoa Zor–” One of them whispered, but before he could finish muttering Zoro’s name he was already on the floor—bleeding and unconscious.
“Too scared to even attack me?” Zoro smugly asked.
The marines were surprisingly not attacking him—was it because of fear or was it because of his face?
“Are those…kiss marks?”
“No…maybe war paints?”
“Or b-blood?”
“Stupid! It’s obviously kiss marks.”
Zoro drew his Sandai Kitetsu, irritation spread all over his face because of the continuous whispering of the marines. “Are you going to fight or not?”
The marines almost collapsed from fear. The terrifying aura he emits is enough to make them shiver, yet they couldn’t ignore the ridiculous lipstick stains stamped across his face. They wanted to run and some wanted to laugh, seeing the Roronoa Zoro having kiss marks during a battle wasn’t on their bingo card that day—and Zoro? he was oblivious of it, they think.
After slicing through everyone in the ship, he wiped off the blood in his words before putting it back in its sheaths. His brows furrowed as he boarded the Sunny, he couldn’t stop thinking why some of the marines were secretly laughing at him.
Zoro then spotted Usopp and Chopper exchanging glances at each other, biting back their laughter at the sight of the lipstick stains on his face. Sanji, on the other hand, was fuming in anger, muttering curses. He was jealous of the kiss marks that the marimo got from his girlfriend.
Luffy could only laugh at Zoro’s face. “You look funny, Zoro.”
His scowl deepened, “What’s funny?”
The crew erupted into laughter, but Zoro only grew more annoyed. With a big grin, you followed him into the crow’s nest where he decided to train again. He was too focused, his brows furrowed, he stared at his swords like it offended him.
You wanted to tell him about the kiss marks, but you also felt scared that he might get mad about it—after all, he always takes his battles seriously. Slowly, you walked up to him, towel in hand, while your heart pounded against your chest.
“What?” He grumpily asked.
You sat down on the bench in front of him and ushered him to come closer, which he did after keeping his swords aside. Without a word, you reached over and carefully pressed the towel on his face, wiping away the stains on it. He didn’t flinch from the touch, clearly used to your gestures of taking care of him—he probably thinks you were simply wiping off his sweat.
Zoro slowly loosened up, his body relaxing, the tension completely melted away. Then unexpectedly, you felt him gently placed a kiss on the top of your head.
“Thanks,” he softly whispered.
Days passed after the encounter with the marines. None of the crew talked about the funny red stains on Zoro’s face, it was completely forgotten leaving you feeling relieved.
“Are you going with Nami?” Zoro stared at the crew who were excitedly jumping off the Sunny to the island where you just docked to gather some supplies.
“Nah, she’s going with Robin.” You stretched out your arms, happily feeling the warmth of the sun for a moment. “Let’s go, you’re going with me.”
You were happily skipping your way around town with Zoro, who would glance over at you for every second with a little smirk on his lips—he found it cute whenever you’re excited, but of course, he would never say it.
The big smile on your lips suddenly dropped when you noticed a picture on a random wall across the market. You made sure Zoro was busy looking around before you hurried off to look at it, and you were right. It was a picture of Zoro: his usual intimidating pose, smirking, and gripping his swords tightly…except the red stains on his face were glaring obviously. And below, written in bold letters “Kiss-marked Demon.”
You felt your knees weakened when a towering shadow hovered above you, “Kiss-marked Demon.”
You turned around almost immediately, “I can explain!”
Zoro didn’t speak, instead he dragged you towards the steep and dark alleyway. Your back pressed against the wall, and Zoro’s arms braced against it, trapping you. You couldn’t see him clearly, but you knew so damn well, he’s wearing that annoying smirk of his.
Zoro leaned in closer, his face a few inches away from yours, his voice low and almost like a growl. “You really think I didn’t know?”
Your heart beats faster than anything, it could leap out of your chest. Zoro had always been a tease, but he hadn’t done anything like this. And it made your knees weak not because you were scared, but because you found it hot.
Zoro rested his forehead against yours, then he murmured—obviously teasing you. “It’s payback time.”
His lips brushed yours—at first it was slow and soft, then you wrapped your arms around him and tugged his hair, the kiss became deep and rough. His body pressed against yours and his hands gripping your waist tightly. It was the kind of kiss you knew he’d continue when you get back to the Sunny.

Warning: fem!reader, mention of y\n a times, summer birthday
Author's note: I got a little carried away with this one. 😅 Consider this your warning: it's very long, very sugary, and absolutely overflowing with enough fluff to rot your teeth.
This is a birthday special I wrote as a gift for myself, but I figured I'd share the sugar rush with all of you too. So here it is—a shameless indulgence in soft moments, ridiculous amounts of affection, and enough sweetness to last a lifetime.
Enjoy the fluff, and thank you, as always, for reading. 💕
He watched you from the corner of his eye, captivated for a moment by the effortless grace in the way you moved, by your infectious laughter, by the kindness that seemed to come as naturally to you as breathing.
You were crouched beside Luffy, patiently trying to untangle the knot he'd somehow tied his own tongue into while attempting to prove some ridiculous point to Usopp—probably how many times he could wrap it around a post before spinning like a top. Chopper hovered nearby in complete panic.
No one else had the patience to deal with the seventeenth crisis your captain had created for himself that day.
Except you.
The golden hour draped sunlight over your hair, painting every loose strand with molten gold. Even from where he stood, Zoro could see the warm glow resting against your cheeks and catching on your lashes, as though the sun itself had decided you deserved its full attention.
You were beautiful.
More beautiful than he could ever hope to put into words. Not just because he wasn’t good with them. Though, admittedly, he wasn’t. At least not in the way people expected a man in love to be.
No. He just considered it impossible. Some things simply couldn't be translated into language.
Besides, words seemed... unnecessary.
Why would he need sweet, honey-coated lines like Sanji used? That damned cook fluttered around every woman unfortunate enough to wander into his line of sight.
Zoro had always believed love was something private. Something that revealed itself through actions instead of speeches.
Curly Brows would probably lose his mind if he ever heard what Zoro considered romantic:
Keeping your blades razor sharp.
Saving you a place beside him whenever he sat down.
Letting you rest against his shoulder during naps.
Sharing food. Sharing drinks.
He'd even let you use Wado Ichimonji—his most treasured sword—when the two of you trained together, trusting you enough to place it in your hands.
During every fight, he'd instinctively move toward your side, and the moment the battle ended, he'd look for you before anyone else.
If you were cold, you'd have his haramaki without hesitation. His jacket too, on the rare occasions he actually wore one.
And perhaps the greatest proof of affection he could offer: he let you tend to his injuries, even before Chopper.
That had to mean something.
At least... he hoped you knew it did.
There wasn't another soul alive with whom he'd willingly eat from the same plate, stealing bites from each other between quiet conversations.
There wasn’t another person he’d happily sit beside in comfortable silence for hours. The kind that somehow filled every empty space inside him.
You were the only person allowed to interrupt his training whenever you pleased.
You could even force him to take a bath.
In fact, Nami had realized something was seriously wrong several months before you started dating, when Zoro suddenly began bathing more regularly. He’d even asked her for money to buy deodorant and cologne at the next port.
If the two of you were going to spend so much time together, he wanted you to feel comfortable around him.
He told himself not to stare.
Not because he didn't want to, but because every glance made it harder to remember there was a world beyond you.
Looking away should have helped.
Instead, he carried your image with him all the same.
Now that the two of you had been together for a little while—not very long, but long enough—he wanted to express his feelings a little better.
The perfect opportunity presented itself when he overheard that the next few islands on your route would all be celebrating the beginning of summer with festivals.
For days he'd wrestled with the idea, trying to figure out how to make everything work.
Then he remembered a conversation he'd never admit to eavesdropping on, back when all of you were still relatively new crewmates.
It had been near the end of summer.
The Going Merry had docked at a lively little town celebrating its annual festival, overflowing with paper lanterns, music drifting through every street, food stalls packed shoulder to shoulder, and carnival games lining the square.
The day had been chaotic, as most days with the Straw Hats tended to be.
But also surprisingly peaceful.
No life-threatening disasters.
No Marines.
No bounty hunters.
Just your crew causing their own brand of mayhem, as per usual.
Luffy somehow managed to eat what looked like half the festival's food supply.
Usopp insisted on trying every carnival game he could find, losing each one with spectacular consistency while loudly claiming every booth was rigged.
Sanji disappeared within the first ten seconds, sprinting across town to flirt with every woman he passed, buying them snacks, winning stuffed animals for complete strangers and generally making a fool of himself.
Nami convinced you to browse the market stalls overflowing with pretty little trinkets—hairpins, ribbons, charms, and handcrafted jewelry.
Meanwhile, Zoro declared festivals "too damn noisy" and wandered a few paces behind everyone else.
Though somehow he always remained close enough to step in if trouble appeared.
By the time darkness settled over the sea and everyone returned to the Merry, the crew was completely exhausted.
Luffy and Usopp had collapsed almost immediately, completely worn out after burning through every ounce of energy they possessed.
Sanji stood in the galley washing dishes.
Zoro rested against the main mast, arms folded across his chest, eyes closed.
Or at least they appeared closed.
You and Nami sat near the railing with your legs dangling over the edge, listening to the waves in comfortable silence.
Then Nami glanced your way.
“You looked like you were having fun today.”
You smiled.
"More than I expected."
"I would've guessed festivals were your thing."
A soft laugh escaped you.
"Actually... I've only ever been to one. Maybe two. When I was a kid"
Nami turned toward you.
"Really? You seem exactly like the kind of person who’d love summer festivals."
You looked out over the moonlit sea.
"I don't dislike them... I just never really had the chance."
Your voice softened with nostalgia.
"I remember going on the first day of summer. It was my birthday, so after the celebration and family lunch they took me to the festival."
You smiled faintly.
"I don't remember many details. Just the feeling of it. The lanterns and all those lights. It felt magical. As if the sky had filled with fireflies and somehow come down to meet the earth."
For a moment, you seemed far away. Wrapped in memories.
Then you smiled and nudged Nami lightly.
"What about you? Summer festivals or winter ones?"
And just like that, the conversation shifted.
The two of you spent the next hour sharing stories, jokes, and memories while the ship rocked gently beneath the stars.
Throughout all of it, Zoro never opened his eyes, but he heard every single word.
Without realizing it, the first day of summer lodged itself somewhere deep in his mind.
Like a mark carved into stone.
He had no idea how important that memory would become almost a year later.
He had absolutely no intention of involving the rest of the crew.
They were far too loud.
Too chaotic.
Too likely to ruin everything.
Sanji would go completely overboard and somehow turn the entire day into a five-star romantic spectacle. The damned curly-brow would probably smother you under flowers, gourmet meals, and enough dramatic declarations to last a lifetime.
Luffy would eat all the food, including the cake.
The girls would steal you away for half the day.
Chopper, your greatest weakness and everyone’s favorite little reindeer, would have you cooing over him within minutes.
And Usopp… He would spend hours telling increasingly ridiculous stories until sunset.
No.
This wasn’t supposed to be everyone’s celebration.
It was supposed to be yours. Your day.
And his.
Preferably every year from now until the end of time.
The thought made his ears warm.
Tch.
Ignoring that entirely, Zoro decided he would put together something that would make you smile.
Something that would show you he could be thoughtful. Romantic, even.
Though he’d rather swallow one of his swords than admit that part out loud.
For weeks, the human seaweed prepared himself mentally.
Ideas drifted endlessly through his mind as he worked through countless squats, push-ups, and sit-ups, while he drank sake or pretended to nap.
Perhaps you would enjoy spending some time in a bookstore, even though he knew next to nothing about books. Or maybe the beach. A cliff overlooking the sea. A meadow in bloom. The summer festival. A good restaurant.
The problem was that he wasn't an expert in any of those things, so, with a reluctance he would never admit aloud, he found himself listening in on conversations between his crewmates and even complete strangers in the street, hoping that someone might unknowingly offer the kind of suggestion he was searching for.
Unfortunately, he was still limited by two major problems.
The first was that he had no idea what the next island would look like.
The second was that he was Roronoa Zoro.
Navigation wasn’t exactly his strongest skill.
Why is this so damn difficult?
I know her better than I know myself.
So how am I struggling this much over something this simple?
Yet Zoro approached the whole endeavor with the same quiet determination he had devoted to every promise he had ever made.
That he would become the greatest swordsman in the world.
That he would help his captain become the King of the Pirates.
And the promise he had never spoken aloud, yet carried just as seriously as the others: to remain by your side and do everything in his power to make you happy.
You had woken before dawn.
After quietly getting ready, you slipped out onto the deck to watch the sunrise.
Another year gone.
The horizon shifted faster than seemed possible, bleeding from crimson into gold, then soft pinks and violets before finally surrendering to blue. The colors melted into the sea until sky and water became impossible to separate. A cool breeze drifted across the deck, making you wish you’d thought to bring something warmer.
No sunrise was ever quite the same.
Suddenly, strong arms slipped around you from behind, warmth replacing the morning chill almost instantly.
“Out here before sunrise again.” Zoro rested his chin on top of your head. “Trying to get sick?”
His chin settled lightly on top of your head.
You smiled and leaned back into him, gently wrapping your hands around his forearms.
“You’re the last person who gets to lecture me. I’ve seen you walk around shirtless during snowstorms.”
A quiet snort escaped him.
“That’s different.”
“Oh?”
"I train for that."
You rolled your eyes.
After a brief silence, he grew thoughtful and then spoke again.
"We'll be docking soon."
You glanced up.
“Hm?”
“Get ready.” He paused. “We’re heading into town. Need supplies.”
That earned an immediate look.
It wasn't exactly unusual for people to restock when they reached an island.
But hearing Zoro volunteer so eagerly to help stock the ship… That was definitely new.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
The grin spreading across your face suggested otherwise.
"It’s just... I can’t help but wonder what possessed Nami and Sanji to send you on the supply run"
His eyebrow twitched.
“You don’t exactly radiate competence when it comes to finding your way anywhere,” you continued sweetly. “But I’m sure you’ll return with everything we need.”
A beat.
“Eventually.”
Zoro groaned.
You were impossible.
A pretty little menace.
You laughed as he lightly knocked his shoulder against yours before pulling you closer again.
His ears were already burning.
“Just go get ready.”
When you stepped back onto the deck a little while later, Zoro forgot how to breathe.
A pale green summer dress flowed around your legs, scattered with flowers that deepened in color toward the hem. The fitted waist emphasized your figure, while your loose hair danced in the morning breeze, carrying the familiar scent of your perfume with it.
You looked beautiful.
For the second time that morning, the Straw Hats’ swordsman felt heat flood his face.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t the only one who noticed.
A strangled noise erupted from across the deck.
“My loooooove!”
Sanji collapsed to his knees almost immediately.
Then, as if propelled by forces beyond mortal understanding, began floating toward you with hearts in his eyes and blood pouring from his nose.
“Heaven has blessed this ship!”
The next thing anyone heard was the unmistakable sound of Zoro’s fist connecting with his skull.
“Shut up.”
Then it was your turn to stare, blinking a few times just to make sure you weren’t seeing things.
Instead of his usual white shirt, haramaki, black trousers and boots, Zoro stood before you wearing dark jeans, a striped button-up shirt and, somehow even more shocking, actual shoes.
You walked up to him with a grin that stretched from ear to ear and wrapped both hands around his arm, openly admiring him.
“…Zoro.”
“Tch,” he grumbled, already flustered under your gaze.
“You look so handsome!” you exclaimed, staring at him openly, which did absolutely nothing to improve his current predicament. If anything, it seemed as though a flame had started climbing up his neck, swallowing his ears in its wake.
"...Tch."
"I mean it."
"Knock it off," his voice sounded strained.
You only smiled wider. Instead of listening, you stepped even closer until barely any space remained between you.
The fresh scent of citrus and clean white musk reached you. You leaned toward his neck, breathing it in for a moment.
His entire body froze.
"...Oi, what are you doing?"
Looking deep into his eyes, you gently brushed your lips against his cheek, then the corner of his mouth.
"I'm admiring my handsome boyfriend."
He cleared his throat. His heart felt ready to leap from his chest and sink straight to the bottom of the sea.
The swordsman then mumbled something incoherent, some secret Zoro language of which the two of you were the only fluent speakers.
"Quit talking nonsense," he muttered, "My haramaki needed washing, so... I just threw this on."
You couldn't help laughing softly.
It was such a painfully Zoro explanation.
Looking away, he took your hand gently, so gently that no one would have expected it from the green-haired brute. Then he looked at you again, something so sincere and delicate flickering behind his eyes. His thumb brushed across your knuckles before he lifted your hand and pressed a kiss against your shoulder.
“You look beautiful.”
The words came out quieter than usual.
Then, before you could recover enough to tease him, he averted his gaze once more and hurriedly tugged you along toward the gangplank, leaving behind a crowd of thoroughly entertained crewmates.
The tips of his ears still burned with heat the entire way.
The first place he took you was a small café near the harbor.
This came to the immense outrage of your cook, who had immediately launched into a tirade about your marimo neglecting and mistreating a lady after deciding the two of you should leave the ship as quickly as possible, before even touching the carefully prepared breakfast and coffee.
He sat with you, doing his best not to order sake first thing in the morning out of sheer nervousness.
You picked your favorite meal and a cup of coffee, contentedly taking in the little town from the outdoor seating area and enjoying the breeze drifting in from the nearby sea.
Zoro watched you, warmth filling his chest.
He hoped there would be many more mornings like this by your side.
Then he surveyed the shops around you. Hopefully there would be some of your favorites nearby. Bookstores. Clothing boutiques. Accessory shops. Ice cream parlors…
After you’d finally convinced him to try a bite of your sweet croissant, then brushed the crumbs from his chin and shirt, your fingers accidentally grazing your boyfriend’s muscular chest, already prickling with goosebumps, the two of you continued your walk.
“So,” you asked your swordsman, teasing him a little, “are we finally going to buy those incredibly urgent supplies?”
“Tch.”
He simply tugged you along in the direction he believed a bookstore might be.
Unfortunately, there seemed to be no end to the walking. After ending up in several dead ends, the two of you eventually passed a shop displaying a beautiful, flowing summer dress in its window.
You stopped to admire it.
Zoro noticed immediately.
"Let's go in."
"Hm?"
"Try it on."
You looked at him in surprise.
Shopping ranked somewhere below getting stabbed on his list of favorite activities, and you didn’t want to subject him to your endless outfit changes, indecisiveness, and the general chaos of the entire process.
"No, no, it’s fine," you said quickly. "I already own too many clothes."
He stared at you for a second before placing both hands on your shoulders and steering you toward the entrance.
“Yeah, right,” he snorted. “I don’t wanna hear any of that. Get in there.”
Then he opened the door.
"Inside."
You couldn't help laughing.
An hour later, the brave swordsman had survived approximately seventeen dresses, six skirts, several pairs of trousers and more indecision than any battlefield had ever thrown at him.
Each time you emerged from the changing room, he’d glance up and offer one of approximately three responses.
“It’s good.”
Or:
“Hn.”
Occasionally:
“Looks nice.”
Eventually, you folded your arms in annoyance.
"You're not even looking."
"I am."
"No, you're saying the same thing every time."
"...Because you look good in all of them."
The words slipped out before he could stop them and his ears immediately turned bright red.
"...Forget I said that."
Instead, you walked over, stood on your toes, and kissed him.
"I won't."
You even managed to force him into trying on a few shirts and pairs of pants himself.
Some items you selected without even making him try them, knowing that fitting clothes ranked somewhere between torture and undergoing surgery without anesthesia in Zoro’s personal hierarchy of suffering.
By the time you disappeared into the changing room to put your own clothes back on, your swordsman had already purchased everything you’d spent the longest looking at.
Including the dress from the window.
You emerged carrying your things only to discover several bags already waiting.
Your jaw dropped.
Zoro was always broke.
“…You bought them?”
“Yeah.”
“But that’s too much.”
You were already reaching for your money when he fixed you with a firm look.
“Put that away.”
“Zoro—”
“I wanted to.”
The certainty in his voice left little room for argument.
Confused, you immediately began calculating the astronomical interest rates Nami would inevitably charge him. Thankfully, you had long ago escaped her financial traps by learning to negotiate and extort with the same terrifying efficiency as the navigator herself.
“I’ve got my own stash,” he said.
He absolutely did not.
Did he?
Where would someone so utterly uninterested in money and worldly possessions, outside of fighting, sake and, perhaps—you dared to think—you, even find the motivation to save?
As though you weren’t confused enough already, he took your hand and gently pressed a kiss to your fingers.
“Come on. Let’s keep going.”
Then he turned away.
“What a lovely couple,” the shopkeeper sighed.
Zoro heard it.
His shoulders immediately stiffened, and he grumbled something embarrassed under his breath.
You exited a moment after him, having quickly purchased a few things for your boyfriend that you’d intended to buy from the moment you’d entered the store.
“And something for my strong boyfriend.”
Before he could react, you kissed him on the lips.
For what was certainly not the first time today, and definitely not the last, he blushed.
His brain immediately stopped functioning.
Then he started protesting.
This was your day.
He was supposed to be spoiling you.
Not the other way around.
As the two of you continued down the street, Zoro silently resolved that before the day was over, everything would go exactly as he’d planned.
And he would make it perfect.
After several more hours of wandering, getting lost, accidentally finding the bookstore, discovering a tea shop you immediately fell in love with, and rescuing an alarming number of animals, the two of you eventually came across a beautiful overlook.
The day was scorching.
Despite the fans, sunglasses, and constant searches for shade, the heat and sun had become unbearable.
Zoro spotted the ice cream stand first.
By now, he knew you were one of the biggest sweet tooths he’d ever met, especially when it came to this particular summer treat. Without a word, he disappeared into the line and returned carrying a cone stacked with five different scoops, each one a flavor he knew you loved.
Knowing you’d insist that he get something too, despite not being much of a dessert person himself, he’d picked a few citrusy and milder flavors for his own cone.
A few moments later, realizing your green-haired idiot had vanished somewhere, panic immediately set in. You turned in a slow circle, already wondering whether you’d have to spend the rest of the afternoon tracking him down.
Only on your final turn did you find him standing directly in front of you, holding out a cone filled with cold, sweet salvation.
You sighed dramatically with relief.
“My hero! My angel! Exactly what I needed to save me and bring me back from the dead in this heat.”
Once again, your words completely flustered him.
“Tch. You really do say whatever comes into your head.”
Placing a hand on the small of your back, he guided you toward a nearby bench beneath a tree. It sat in the perfect patch of shade at the overlook, giving you a wonderful view of the charming town spread out below.
Out of the corner of his eye, he watched you happily work through your mountain of ice cream.
Your hand had found his without either of you thinking about it. And your fingers absentmindedly traced invisible patterns across his palm, gliding over the hardened calluses that years of swordsmanship had left behind.
“You know your ice cream’s gonna melt if you spend all your time staring at me” you teased.
His ears immediately turned the color of paprika.
Without warning, he scooped a bit of ice cream from his own cone and dabbed it onto the tip of your nose.
“Hey!”
Before you could retaliate, he leaned closer.
One arm settled against the back of the bench behind you.
Then, in a move so uncharacteristically smooth it nearly short-circuited your brain, he closed the remaining distance and kissed the ice cream off your nose.
You froze.
Completely.
“Wh-what got into you all of a sudden?” you stammered, still trying to recover.
All he did was smile to himself, looking entirely too pleased with the effect he’d had on you, before returning to his cone.
Naturally, a few seconds later you dragged him into a battle to determine which of you could embarrass the other more.
Later, while browsing a stall filled with fragrant oils, perfumes, colognes, and scented waters, Zoro seized the opportunity and quietly slipped away to a few nearby shops to prepare another part of his surprise.
After sampling countless scents, you eventually chose a few for yourself, along with some for Nami and Robin after remembering they’d mentioned needing to restock.
Then you found one that reminded you of your boyfriend.
It smelled like earth after rain, fresh cedar, a hint of hinoki, and something clean, steady, and grounding.
Like him.
You were still considering it when a young boy approached, blushing furiously and staring somewhere around your shoulder rather than directly at you.
“You’re very pretty, miss,” he mumbled, holding out a flower. “This is for you.”
Your smile softened immediately.
“That’s so sweet of you. Thank you very much.”
Touched by the gesture, you accepted the flower and pressed a kiss to his cheek.
The poor child nearly launched himself back into the shop where he was apparently helping his parents.
The grumpy swordsman appeared at your side just in time to witness the entire thing.
The brat’s interfering with my day with Y/N.
He could have sworn he caught the little pest sneaking a victorious grin at him from behind the counter.
“Tch.”
The familiar click of his tongue echoed from somewhere between his teeth and sheer annoyance.
Sliding an arm around your waist, he pulled you closer and pressed a kiss to your forehead.
“Come on. Stop dawdling.”
As you followed him down the street, Zoro shot one last smug glance toward the shop.
Score settled.
After what felt like hours of aimless wandering through unfamiliar streets, gradually leaving the heart of the bustling town behind, accompanied by easy conversation, playful nudges, and long stretches of comfortable silence, the two of you finally came to a stop.
You had noticed the shopping bags in Zoro’s hands long ago, and some of them certainly hadn’t been there that morning. Every now and then your eyes drifted toward them, curiosity threatening to escape your lips, only for you to bite it back.
If he wanted you to know, he’d tell you. Until then, pretending not to notice somehow felt kinder.
The sounds of the festival slowly faded behind you, replaced by little more than birdsong and the whisper of wind through the trees. You had asked him twice where exactly he was taking you.
The first time he’d answered with an absent-minded grunt.
The second, he’d glanced over his shoulder, the faintest smile touching his lips.
“Almost there.”
Then the path opened before you.
Your steps faltered.
Rows upon rows of ancient wisteria trees stretched across the hillside, their sweeping branches draped in cascading curtains of violet blossoms. The afternoon breeze stirred them gently, sending petals drifting lazily through the air.
Beneath them, an endless meadow of wildflowers swayed in the golden light. The entire landscape looked almost unreal.
“…Zoro.”
He wasn’t looking at the view.
He was watching you.
Good.
That expression alone made every awkward question he’d asked the locals worth it.
For a long moment neither of you moved. The breeze carried the scent of blossoms between you.
Finally, Zoro shifted the bags onto one shoulder.
“…Stay here for a minute.”
Before you could ask what he meant, he disappeared beneath the hanging wisteria branches.
You watched him kneel in the grass and begin unpacking the bags you’d been pretending not to notice all afternoon.
Carefully, he spread a blanket across the ground.
Fresh pastries, fruit, meats, and little appetizers filled the blanket, along with your favorite drinks. For you, he’d chosen a carefully selected sweet fruit wine. For himself, he opened a bottle of sake.
Only after arranging everything exactly the way he wanted did he look back at you.
“…Come here.”
He held out a hand and carefully helped you lower yourself onto the blanket before sitting down beside you.
“…You put all of this together yourself?” you asked.
Your eyes shone, and the smile on your face was the kind that appeared when you weren’t even aware you were smiling, when happiness had simply become too great to hide and spilled onto your features all on its own.
A faint blush crept across his cheeks.
He cleared his throat.
“Well… I definitely didn’t make the food myself.”
You moved even closer, wrapping your arms around him.
Compared to him, your frame felt so small and soft, fitting against him as though you had always belonged there.
His favorite feeling.
“What was all this for?” you asked quietly.
“’Cause I wanted to.”
Zoro looked into your eyes. Those eyes he could never quite stop looking at.
The backs of his fingers brushed your cheek before tracing gently across your lips.
“I just wanted to.”
The answer hit harder than any grand declaration ever could.
Overcome by affection and happiness, you tightened your embrace and sent both of you tumbling backward into the grass.
“…Hn!”
Nestling your face against his neck, you squeezed him tighter.
Then you lifted your head and began peppering him with kisses.
“You’re wonderful!”
A kiss landed on one warm cheek.
Then the other.
His eyebrows pulled together in surprise and mock annoyance as you continued.
Beneath his eyes.
Across his eyelids.
His forehead.
His chin.
Finally, you paused just above his lips.
“I love you so much.”
The words were little more than a whisper. Then you kissed him, pouring every feeling you couldn’t properly express into the gesture.
His arms immediately found your waist. Sometimes they slid down your arms instead, his rough hands stroking your skin in slow, absent-minded motions.
For a moment he simply held you there.
Then he shifted and rolled the two of you over until you were the one pinned gently beneath him.
Before claiming your lips again, he leaned down and pressed a kiss against your neck.
He knew exactly how ticklish you were.
The resulting laugh burst from your throat immediately as you squirmed and shoved at his shoulders.
“Zoro!”
Satisfied with his small act of revenge, he finally relented.
His lips hovered just above yours.
“I love you more.”
And then he kissed you again.
When you finally pulled apart, both of you a little breathless, Zoro muttered something about eating before all the food and drinks got warm.
Reluctantly, you sat back up.
You attempted to smooth out your dress and fix your hair.
Without comment, Zoro reached over and removed a stray flower and several blades of grass from it.
The day already felt perfect.
More perfect than you’d thought possible.
Later, after you’d both eaten your fill and settled into the peaceful atmosphere, Zoro sat quietly drinking sake and watching you while you carefully wove a flower crown.
Once it was finished, you proudly placed atop his head.
He looked less than thrilled.
Or at least he would never admit otherwise.
Yet he didn’t take it off.
After finishing his sake, he decided to make one for you as well.
His fingers, so skilled with swords, proved considerably less talented when it came to flower crowns. Despite choosing the prettiest blossoms he could find and concentrating harder than he’d care to admit, the thing stubbornly refused to look the way he’d imagined.
You, meanwhile, were completely charmed.
Smiling.
Flattered.
Hopelessly in love with this green-haired grump and his heart of gold.
When he finally handed over the somewhat lopsided creation, you accepted it as though it were the finest crown ever made.
Then you proudly placed it atop your own head.
Leaning back, you rested against his chest.
His arms naturally settled around your waist as the two of you watched the sunset paint the world in shades of gold, violet, and rose.
“This was the most beautiful day,” you said softly.
His fingers threaded through your hair.
Then drifted to your shoulder and neck, tracing slow, absent-minded circles against your skin.
For a moment he said nothing.
Then, without taking his eyes off the horizon, he replied:
“…The day’s not over yet.”
Neither of you noticed how much time had passed until the sunlight filtering through the wisteria began to deepen into richer shades of gold.
The shadows stretched lazily across the meadow, and petals still drifted on every passing breeze, though fewer now than before.
Eventually, Zoro rose to his feet.
“We should head back.”
You looked up at him, reluctant to leave.
“…Already?”
His heart tightened a little. He didn’t want to rush you.
But there was still one last part of his plan left.
“The festival will be starting soon.”
You smiled and took the hand he offered without a second thought.
The walk back felt different.
Quieter.
Not because there was nothing left to say, but because neither of you felt any need to fill the silence anymore.
Walking side by side, neither of you removed your flower crowns. At one point, you considered reminding your swordsman that he was still wearing his. He had probably forgotten about it entirely.
Apparently not.
“I wear what I wear,” he said when you brought it up. “If somebody’s got a problem with it, they can tell me.”
In some unfamiliar village at the edge of the world, one of dozens he’d passed through in his life, anyone foolish enough to mock him for wearing a flower crown would become intimately acquainted with the sharp edge of his sword.
The bags in Zoro’s hand swayed with each step. You walked beside him, brushing your fingertips through the wildflowers one last time before the meadow disappeared behind the trees.
Without a word, your boyfriend slipped his free hand into yours and laced your fingers together.
As the town slowly came back into view, so did its sounds.
At first there was only distant laughter.
Then music.
Then voices spilling through narrow streets.
By the time you passed beneath the first lantern hanging overhead, daylight had almost completely surrendered.
One by one, paper lanterns flickered to life, bathing the streets in warm shades of amber and crimson. They hung from rooftops, stretched between market stalls, swayed above bridges, until the entire town seemed wrapped in a quiet constellation of golden light.
The evening had only just begun.
As you walked through the glowing streets, staring in wonder at everything around you, much to the delight of your gruff swordsman, who seemed to gain strength simply from watching you happy, something suddenly caught your eye.
“Zoro!”
His gaze followed yours.
A photo booth stood near the edge of the square.
Nothing particularly impressive, but strips of paper lanterns hung from its roof, fluttering in the evening breeze.
A grin spread across your face.
“We have to.”
You squeezed the muscle of his arm where your hand rested.
One eyebrow rose.
“…Do what?”
“Take pictures.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“No.”
“Please?”
Those irresistible eyes should’ve been classified as a weapon.
“Tch.”
Rolling his eyes, he grabbed your wrist and headed straight toward the booth, dragging both you and himself along with equal resignation.
He would agree to almost anything for your smile.
Not that he’d ever admit it.
Not even to you.
Who knew what kind of evil you’d accomplish with that knowledge, you little menace.
Inside, the booth was absurdly small.
Your shoulders touched immediately.
A small light began blinking.
Above the camera, a sign lit up.
Three…
You weren’t ready.
Though you were having far too much fun to care.
He definitely wasn’t ready.
Two…
You burst out laughing because he was standing so stiffly he looked like a man awaiting execution.
Flower crown and all.
He shot you a mildly panicked glance.
One…
The flash went off just as you turned toward him, still laughing.
Another countdown began.
This time, you deliberately bumped your shoulder against his.
He looked down at you.
And a small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
Just a little one.
The kind reserved only for you. Watching you like this. So happy. So playful.
Then came the final picture.
Without warning, you pressed yourself against his side and kissed him.
He practically bristled like a startled cat.
His eyes widened and cheeks turned bright red, matching several of the flowers woven into his crown.
Then, just as quickly, he relaxed and kissed you back.
The machine whirred.
A moment later, two identical photo strips slid from the slot below.
Before you could tuck them away, Zoro quietly took one from your hand.
“…Keep the other.”
You blinked.
“For yourself.”
It wasn’t quite a request, nor was it an order.
Just something he wanted.
Something unexpectedly earnest.
“You’ll want it someday.”
The words escaped before he could stop them.
Almost immediately, he looked away, as though annoyed with himself for saying so much.
But you noticed.
Zoro didn’t speak like that unless he meant every word.
What a ridiculous man.
What a wonderful man.
You smiled to yourself and tucked yourself against his side once more as the two of you continued walking.
There wasn’t a force in the world strong enough to quiet the frantic beating of your heart.
You continued wandering for a little while longer as the crowds gradually began to thin.
Eventually, the two of you came upon a square where people were writing wishes on floating lanterns before releasing them into the night sky. Thousands of tiny lights, each marked with different handwriting, carried wishes, promises, and hopes upward into the heavens, drifting along the river or simply hovering in the warm summer air.
“Want to write one?” your boyfriend asked, his gaze lingering on you.
You looked around at the lanterns floating overhead.
“Do you?”
Zoro exhaled softly.
“…Suppose so.”
You wrote a simple birthday wish. Maybe something playful at first, though it turned sentimental by the end.
Truthfully, you weren’t sure what else there was left to wish for. It was hard to think of anything when you were already so happy, surrounded by everything you could have ever dreamed of.
You had freedom, wonderful friends you could call family.
And most of all… you had him.
A wonderful boyfriend who filled your life with a sense of trust and peace so profound that you hadn’t known such loyalty could exist anywhere in the world.
Zoro, meanwhile, took much longer.
He stared at the blank paper for what felt like an eternity, which naturally gave you plenty of opportunity to tease him.
“Didn’t know you had so much to wish for.”
He snorted.
Zoro wasn’t the type to make wishes. He worked for what he wanted. Always had.
Still, your beloved marimo eventually wrote something down, carefully and deliberately, before folding the paper shut before you could catch a glimpse.
“You don’t get to read it.”
You pouted and immediately tried to steal it.
He effortlessly held it just out of reach.
Then, before you could protest further, he leaned down and kissed you softly.
The argument died a swift and tragic death.
Together, you released your lanterns into the night.
You watched them drift higher and higher until they joined the countless others above.
Before long, Zoro’s gaze left the lanterns and settled on you instead, bathed in golden light and for a moment the entire festival seemed to disappear around you. The music faded into the distance, the crowd blurred into nothing, and all he could see was the woman standing beside him.
Beautiful beyond reason.
The most precious thing in his world.
And for a moment, watching you smile at the sky, he thought that perhaps his wish had already come true.
A few minutes later, he suddenly took your hand and gently led you away from the music, away from the laughter and crowd, until the sounds of the festival became little more than a pleasant murmur behind you.
Far enough that it felt like the two of you were alone again.
Only then did he stop beneath the warm glow of a lone lantern hanging from a wooden post.
For a second, neither of you spoke.
Then Zoro reached into the bag he’d been carrying all day.
Your curiosity immediately sharpened.
One by one, he began pulling things out.
A bouquet of flowers.
A few thoughtful keepsakes he'd quietly collected throughout the day.
A new weapon you’d been complaining about for weeks that you needed to replace. Your breath caught when you noticed the engraving: your initials beside his.
"...Zoro..."
And finally…
A delicate silver bracelet.
Tiny stones shimmered in the lantern light, but what caught your attention was the charm dangling from it.
It was almost identical to the three earrings he never took off.
You stared, speechless.
Then carefully turned it over.
Engraved on the back were two simple words:
Found you.
“…You found me?” you asked with a laugh, your head spinning from surprise and excitement.
He immediately looked away, scratching the back of his neck.
"...Yeah."
You fastened it around your wrist at once and held it up to admire it, completely radiant.
The sight nearly did him in.
Zoro’s heart swelled so much he thought it might climb straight into his throat and launch itself into the night sky alongside the lanterns.
Only after you’d had a moment to process everything did he finally look at you again.
And with all the awkward sincerity of a man who had spent the entire day saying I love you without ever using those words, he finally said the one sentence you’d been waiting for without expecting it in the slightest.
“Happy birthday.”
Your breath caught. Completely stunned.
Your eyes widened as you stared at him, lips parting to speak, yet no sound came.
Zoro shifted awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck again.
Then, almost reluctantly, explained:
“You mentioned it once. To Nami. That you were born on the first day of summer.”
You stared at him.
Remembering a birthday wasn’t unusual when people talked about it often.
When it was announced weeks ahead of time.
When everyone reminded each other.
But carrying that tiny piece of information for months, maybe almost a year or more? Through storms, battles, islands, and endless voyages across the Grand Line?
Among all the noise and chaos of your lives, one offhand thing you’d said long ago, something no one else had even thought twice about, had remained lodged in his mind all this time.
And somehow he still expected you to treat this as though it were completely ordinary.
As though this was a small thing.
You looked at him differently than ever before.
Your heart felt impossibly full, overflowing with love, tenderness, and complete astonishment.
You knew Zoro.
Or at least you had believed you did.
Yet somehow you'd overlooked just how deeply kind he was. How there was still so much tenderness hidden inside him that even after all this time, you occasionally forgot just how good he truly was.
At least when it came to you.
“I love you so much, you idiot.”
Your eyes filled with tears as you buried your face against his broad chest.
The swordsman laughed quietly as relief washed through him at last.
Everything had gone exactly the way he’d hoped.
The weight he'd been carrying for weeks finally slipped from his shoulders.
“This was the most beautiful day of my life,” you admitted. “Just spending it with you would’ve been enough. You didn’t have to go through all this trouble.”
True to form, Zoro clicked his tongue.
“Tch. Spending the day with you? That was for me.”
You lifted your head to look at him.
His ears looked impossibly red against his green hair.
“The gifts,” he continued, pulling you closer until there wasn’t even an inch between you, “that’s something for you.”
His forehead rested lightly against yours.
“A way of saying that no matter how dumb or oblivious I look sometimes…”
His voice softened.
“…I’m here.”
His hand settled over yours.
“I listen.”
The silver bracelet glimmered between your joined hands.
“And I love you.”
A pause.
The faintest blush spread across his cheeks.
“More than anything.”
The eyes that always carried such strength and certainty softened as they looked into yours.
Your lips found each other in a gentle kiss.
A slow one.
The kind made from longing, affection, gratitude, happiness, and all the things words failed to carry.
Around you, lanterns continued to rise. Thousands of them.
Carrying hopes, promises, dreams and wishes.
Including his.
Somewhere above the town, drifting higher beneath the stars, floated a lantern containing the wish he’d guarded all evening.
Not a wish to become the world’s strongest swordsman.
Not a wish to defeat Mihawk.
Nothing like that.
Among the stars floated a lantern carrying a single wish, written carefully in his uneven handwriting:
May every birthday after this one be mine to spend with you.
Warning: fem!reader, mention of y\n two or three times, reader knows how to fight.
People were creatures of habit.
And that was no less true for the crew’s beloved green-haired swordsman.
At first, it had been something small.
Every dawn, somewhere in the middle of your own training routine, Zoro would appear in the crow’s nest without fail. No greeting, no ceremony — just a low grunt of acknowledgment before silently joining you.
Sometimes the whole thing would turn into a competition.
More often than not, you’d end up sparring with the green-haired brute while he constantly grumbled that you needed to sharpen your swordsmanship, even when he clearly wasn’t dissatisfied with the fight you were putting up. Never mind that swordplay wasn’t even your primary fighting style. Never mind that if you actually fought him seriously using your preferred techniques, you could knock him flat on his back in seconds.
Though every now and then, you managed to convince him to give it a try.
Nothing erased that smug grin off his face faster.
After your morning session was done, you’d leave him behind in the crow’s nest to shower and get ready for the rest of the day while he continued his endless routine of thousands upon thousands of push-ups, squats, weightlifting, and whatever other insanity he considered normal training.
Around noon, you’d usually stop by with water or snacks — things the stubborn mule inevitably forgot about, being too focused on becoming stronger.
Until one afternoon, when Chopper showed up carrying a tray with water and onigiri balanced carefully in his hooves.
Zoro glanced behind the little reindeer, expecting to see your head appear as you climbed the stairs.
Nothing.
“…Thanks,” he muttered, though the entire time one thought kept circling in his head.
Where is she?
“Y/N-san is sunbathing on deck with Nami,” Chopper explained cheerfully. “She asked me to bring you refreshments.”
“Hn.”
He didn’t understand why it bothered him.
You had every right to spend your time however you wanted.
It wasn’t any of his business.
It wasn’t like he cared.
Not at all.
The same thing happened during crew meetings. Somehow, he’d always end up standing right next to you, casually exchanging comments under his breath while everyone else talked.
And dinner arrangements had slowly settled into a routine too.
One day, you’d simply taken the seat between Nami and Zoro, and after that, it became yours.
Without even thinking about it, Zoro started guarding pieces of meat from Luffy’s greedy hands so you’d actually get something to eat. Not that the damn cook would ever allow a lady like you to go hungry in the first place.
It just… came naturally.
In return, whenever Sanji and Zoro inevitably got into one of their arguments over dinner, you’d lightly touch the cook’s arm, bat your eyelashes, smile sweetly, and ask him to pour the green-haired swordsman another cup of sake.
Every single time, the cook would melt on the spot.
With hearts practically bursting from his eyes, he would wobble dramatically while agreeing.
“Of course, Y/N-swan!” he’d cry. “Anything for you! Though that filthy muscle-brained gorilla doesn’t deserve such kindness from a goddess like you!”
Zoro would only snort smugly into his drink.
Gullible curly-brow.
Until one day, Usopp sat in your seat.
Your seat.
Zoro stared at him. Hard.
“…What the hell do you think you’re doing?” he asked hoarsely.
“Huh?” Usopp blinked, stuffing freshly grilled fish into his mouth.
“Y/N sits there,” the swordsman muttered, irritation already rising in his chest — though even he wasn’t entirely sure why.
Usopp looked equally confused.
“Since when does it matter where people sit?” Usopp scoffed. “There’s space next to Nami and Chopper.”
Then suddenly, realization dawned across his face. The sniper pointed dramatically.
“WAIT A SECOND—” he shouted, nearly choking. “YOU CAN’T STAND BEING AWAY FROM OUR DEAR STRATEGIST!”
The entire kitchen fell silent.
Robin quietly sipped her tea, visibly amused.
Chopper froze with his eyes and mouth wide open.
Nami looked horrified at the idea of you ending up with a man who couldn’t be forced into a shower at gunpoint and routinely marinated in training sweat for days.
Luffy burst into laughter.
And Sanji…
The blond cook looked personally offended by the very suggestion, a furious vein pulsing in his forehead.
“EXCUSE ME?!” he roared. He launched himself across the room until he was nose-to-nose with Zoro.
“As if our sweet darling Y/N-swan would ever settle for this overgrown, dumbass meathead of a moss-brained barbarian!”
Zoro’s face immediately turned red. Partly from anger and partly from something else.
“Watch your mouth, pretty boy,” Zoro growled immediately, shoving himself to his feet. “Or I’ll rearrange your damn face.”
His hand dropped toward his swords.
And right then, the kitchen door opened.
“Hey, guys. Sorry I took so long — I completely lost track of time.”
You smiled as you stepped inside and took the empty seat at the table.
Then you noticed the atmosphere.
“…What’s going on?” you asked, tilting your head slightly as your gaze moved across your crewmates.
“Nothin’,” Zoro barked immediately before sitting back down, eyes fixed very intensely on his food.
He looked irritated and his breathing seemed slightly uneven.
And… were his ears red?
You looked toward Nami, but she only shrugged innocently and winked.
“Nothing your lovely little head needs to worry about, Y/N-san,” Sanji said smoothly while placing your favorite meal in front of you alongside your drink.
Meanwhile, Usopp and Chopper suddenly found the table fascinating.
Robin hid another smile behind her teacup.
Only Luffy, despite witnessing the entire thing unfold, remained completely oblivious.
“SHISHISHI! Zoro just got worked up because Uso—”
Usopp slapped both hands over Luffy’s mouth.
“H-He’s angry because I used the last of his sake for my amazing newest invention!” the sniper laughed nervously. “A weapon that’ll blow away any enemy foolish enough to challenge Captain Usopp!”
The entire time, Zoro ignored everything and continued eating as if none of this concerned him.
“Oh,” you said thoughtfully. “I think I still have a bottle saved in my room. I can check later. Besides, we’re docking at a new town soon anyway — we can just buy double the amount this time. Sound good?”
You looked at him carefully, trying to lighten his mood.
“Hn. Whatever,” he muttered.
The rest of dinner passed in mild awkwardness until Luffy and Usopp inevitably caused enough chaos to distract everyone.
Later that night, you found the swordsman sitting in the crow’s nest, leaning against one of the wooden beams.
You sat down beside him and gently nudged his shoulder with yours.
He grunted softly in acknowledgment. A greeting, in Zoro language.
“Rough day?”
“Tch.”
“You’re grumpier than usual.”
“You’re imagining things,” he muttered.
For a moment, it sounded like he wanted to say something else.
You waited patiently.
“Just… I don’t like it when someone takes your place,” he finally grumbled, looking away.
Your heart skipped.
Zoro stared stubbornly at the horizon and cleared his throat roughly before continuing.
“We’re docking tomorrow.”
A pause.
“Come with me to pick out sake.”
His jaw tightened. Then, quieter:
“And… whatever other crap you like.”
He meant your clothes, perfumes, sweets, books, and all the little things that always seemed to catch your eye whenever you visited a town.
He glanced at you from the corner of his eye and swallowed.
“Deal,” you said with a smile. “It’s a date.”
The words made warmth flicker across his face almost instantly. For a second, neither or you moved,
Then you felt something warm brush against your little finger — subtle, tentative and almost hesitant.
Zoro’s hand had settled beside yours. And with the barest movement, his calloused finger hooked lightly against your own.
Neither of you pulled away.
And for the first time all day, the swordsman looked completely at ease.
scars were shame on a swordsman’s back unless they were from your nails as he brought you to the brink over and over again with only his name on your lips.
scars were shame on a swordsman’s back unless they were from your teeth as you sank them into his shoulder while he thrusted into you, his hands gripping your thighs as he leaned his chest against yours, capturing your lips in a messy kiss.
scars were shame on a swordsman’s back unless they were from you and were reminders of the night before that he felt against his skin every time he loved and he was reminded of them every time he saw you on deck the next morning.
scars were a reminder of what had transpired between the two of you in secret and for Roronoa Zoro, there was no shame in that.

RORONOA ZORO was not a man who showed his affection for you outwardly so everyone aboard could notice. Instead he opted for fleeting, discreet displays.
One could notice only if they were really paying attention. Both of you hadn’t planned it exactly but through mutual understanding you didn’t tell the rest of the crew about your feelings.
Leading to the nerves and excitement of having to hold back in certain situations, for example, enduring one of Usopp's infamous stories, the drone of his voice was lulling to sleep as you sat there, you wished you could rest your head on the green haired man beside you but it wasn’t worth the trouble. Sensing this, he shifted closer and wrapped his arm around the back of your chair, a cushion of sorts. An act inconspicuous to the rest of the crew or so you thought.
It didn’t take very long for the rest of them to pick up on the closeness of the pair of you.
stood at the railing of the ship, the green haired man to the right, his larger pinky intertwined with yours. The aquamarine waters below sparkled in the disappearance of daylight. Nami slid beside you, a knowing smile plastered across her face.
“So, anything you’d like to tell me or the rest of the crew perhaps?”
both of you turning towards her, trying to keep your faces as neutral as possible, he was doing a better job of doing so. Pinkies unlinked hastily in an attempt to hide the display from Nami. The pair hoped you were quick enough and she hadn’t noticed. Nami’s gaze darted from yours, the grin growing bigger the more the silence prolonged. Zoro eventually was the one to reply,
“No,”
His response was blunt, an attempt at shutting the navigator down but she wouldn’t give up that easily.
She shook her head in amusement, this was exactly the response she was expecting from the green haired man but you on the other hand, you’d probably give her the dirt she was looking for. .
“You sure nothing between you, that you’d like to explain?”
finger pointed as she wiggled it back and forth from you, to him. Her eyes trained on yours, your face began to blister with heat. A small giggle escaped her lips, she knew she’d gotten you. Zoro’s face hadn’t changed since the first interaction, expression stoic, the complete opposite of you. You groaned before questioning,
“How’d you find out? How long?”
You asked knowing the act was up, there was no denying it now after that display.
“Secrets and discreteness aren’t your forte, why’d’ you think we wouldn’t notice when you keep holding pinky’s every time your stood next to each other, or he points towards Zoro “likes to lend out his arms as a pillow, We’ve known for ..” Nami counted on her fingers,
“5 months, exactly.”
The Green haired man’s eye brows moved into a frown, staring at you with a questioning look as you stood their dumbfounded. All those days and nights you’d been sneaking around, giggling to yourself thinking you had them completely fooled so it only turned out, it was the pair of you who’d been fooled all along.
An amused smile began to paint her face, once she realised how flustered the both of you had gotten over her simple comment.
She walked away, her work here was done. Over her shoulder she shouted.
“You should be thanking me, you don’t have to hide it anymore!”
You turned to the three swordsman, he was as unmoving as ever. He gazed trained on you.
“I told you we should’ve been more slick! We should’ve only done it when it was the two of us, then nobody would’ve seen anything!!”
“It isn’t so bad now we can do this,”
He cupped your cheek and tilted your head so his lips met his. Oh how you’d longed to do this without the pressure of getting caught.

⋆𐙚 ̊ idk why but whenever it’s hot, my ass never gets hot. I feel sweaty all over but my ass is cooler than anything so I turned it into a zoro fic the first part will be about his sexy ass, the other about his pecs. enjoy! see pinned post for banner and fanart info!
“I wonder if your ass cheeks are cold.”
Your eyes were on your husband’s ass, trying to seek some cold after the blazing heat took you and the entire crew out. The fan whirred in the background but that wasn’t enough. You wanted to go for a late night swim but Zoro was against it. You couldn’t do anything but moan and groan about how hot it was.
“Zo!” You cry, burying your face in his chest. They were burning too. “Why’s everything so hot? I hate you!”
He chuckled, amused. “You hate me because…?”
“I want to cuddle with you but you’re too warm.” You grumble, sitting up. “Can I grab some ice and dump it all over you?”
“And have that stupid curly brow on my case? No thank you. Now shut up and go to sleep.” Zoro closed his eye.
You decide to listen to him. It didn’t work. You place your foot on his ass cheek.
“Oh,” Your eyes light up.
It was somewhat cold.
You grin in satisfaction and place both hands on his cheeks; he took a peek at what you were doing. He wasn’t even annoyed at this point, he was used to your antics. When he saw you were finally quiet, he let out a huff, then closed his eye again.
His fingers weave into your hair in the middle of the night, then his big palm slides down to your ass, and hoists you up to his body. Your hands were no longer on his ass, but around his neck, and his mouth pressed sloppy kisses to your shoulder in his sleep.
Best believe when Sanji entered the room to announce breakfast, he was seething at the sight.
Zoro with his hand on your ass, his other hand on your breast, whilst your hand was on his bicep, the other clutching at his thigh.
Zoro woke up to Sanji scolding him, then threw a pillow at him when Sanji asked how your breasts and ass felt. He wouldn’t discuss the body of his wife with any man let alone Sanji. Scrap that, he wouldn’t tell anyone at all. That was for him to know, no one else.
Once Sanji was gone, Zoro let out a quiet grumble.
“You should put your hands on my ass more often, woman.” He says, voice deep with sleep.
You couldn’t sleep.
It was no longer because of the heat or the cold, it was because of the injury you had sustained from a fight earlier. Chopper said you were good to go, but you’d be in a lot of discomfort.
Zoro was tense in his sleep.
He didn’t like the idea of you getting hurt.
You remember how he looked at the sight of his wife with a blade to her hip, or how Chopper dragged you away from him before he could assess the situation himself. When Chopper was done with you, Zoro let his hands roam all over your body, massaging out the aches, letting you lean against him, watch a movie with him, and now he was sleeping and you couldn’t do anything but stare at the roof.
Your hands needed something to squeeze.
With a quiet huff, you roll onto your husband’s lap, and eye his pecs. You love his pecs. You make that known to everyone.
“Name, are you at it again?” Nami groaned.
“Name-chan, you can fondle my chest next!” Sanji cried.
“You’re so weird, Name.” Luffy says, picking his nose, and flicking it.
“Eugh, I’ve had enough of you two!” Chopper laughed.
Usopp would scream in horror every time.
“Super perverts!” Franky cheered, and Robin would laugh from her spot beside him.
Your hands trace over his scar, humming softly. You place a kiss to his cheek. You loved his scars, they were beautiful, but how he gained them weren’t. Flashes of his pain went through your mind. You massage his abs. Another scar. You drag your hands up to his pecs, giving them a squeeze, and Zoro let out a quiet hum.
The tension went from his face. His eye squeeze. Then, he let out a rumble, his pecs flexing, and you smile.
You get comfortable and continue to massage his chest. He lifts his arm and puts it around you.
“Continue,” Zoro says, half-asleep.
You press kisses to the scar over his eye. Zoro palms your ass in response. He opened one eye, and your hands massage his pecs.
“You’re obsessed with them aren’t ya?” Zoro says, a gentle smile on his face.
You nod.
“Did you sleep?” He brushed your face with his knuckles. He frowned when you shook your head. “C’mere.”
You bury your face in the crook of his neck, hands still on his pecs, but the feel of his hands fondling your ass made you sleepy.
Your grip loosened, the pain in your side dulled, and you were sleeping.
Zoro kissed the side of your head.
“Night, doll.” He kissed your mouth, then went to sleep shortly after.
▐ Zoro is not naturally affectionate with words. If you’re waiting for long speeches about his feelings, you’ll be waiting forever.
▐ Instead, he shows love through actions. He’ll silently carry your bags, make sure you’re walking on the safer side of the street, or stand between you and danger without thinking twice.
▐ He loves when you train with him even if you’re nowhere near his skill level.
▐ If you ask him to teach you swordsmanship, he’ll become surprisingly patient.
▐ Zoro falls asleep anywhere, and somehow he always ends up leaning on you.
▐ Sometimes you’ll wake up to find his green haramaki draped over your shoulders because he thought you looked cold.
▐ You can handle yourself just fine, but Zoro still gets irritated when people disrespect you.
▐ During battles, he always keeps track of where you are.
▐ If you fall asleep during a conversations, he’ll sit by you until he’s sure you’re comfortable before moving.
▐ The first time he spends a night beside you, he accidentally discovers that he sleeps deeper when you’re nearby.
▐ If you wake up before him, you’ll sometimes find his arm wrapped around your waist.
▐ He’s the type of person who pretends he doesn’t need affection while constantly finding excuses to be touching you.

You’ve known Red Hair Shanks for as long as you can remember.
Meeting when you two were just kids, 10 to be exact. He grew up on Gol D. Roger’s crew, and you were a cadet with the Marine’s; training specifically under Vice Admiral Garp. You were practically his daughter.
Your first encounter was on the Oro Jackson, the Marine’s had swarmed and infiltrated the ship.
Shanks, being small and silent, snuck onto one of the Marine ships, Buggy following suit because Shanks had given him no choice. You, also small and far more unnoticeable than the two boys, were hidden just as Garp instructed.
You were placed perfectly under the Vice Admiral’s desk, the flintlock he’d given you was clutched tightly in your hands. You could hear the clumsy movement of someone trying to pick the lock of the office door, and whispers of an argument, “Would you hurry it up Shanks?!” “Why don’t you do it?” “Maybe I will!” There was a moment of silence before one of them bursted out in laughter.
Finally the door clicked and creaked open. You held your breath, not because you were nervous, but because they hadn’t noticed you yet. “You take that side I’ll take this side.” You quickly took a peak around the desk, one boy had light blue hair and a large red nose. While the other, whom was closer to you, had bright red hair and a straw hat resting on said fiery red hair.
Both boys had their backs to you, so you took that as your chance to strike. You made your way behind the blue-haired one, striking him on the pressure point on his neck. You caught him before he fell, laying him gently on the wooden floor.
“Find anything Buggy?” The red-head spoke up, “Buggy?” He turned before you could think of something. Quickly you raised the gun, pointing it square at his face. He yelped, jumping back, “Wha—?! How did you get here!” He exclaimed, you furrowed your eyebrows, “You’re the one who broke into here, filthy pirate.” You stepped closer, cocking the gun, ready to fire if needed.
He raised his hands in the air, his head tilting, “Aren’t you a little young to be a Marine?” “Aren’t you too young to be a pirate?” You fired back. He shrugged, looking around the office, “So… is there anything valuable to steal in here?” “Huh?!” “My captains kinda gonna kill me if I come back empty handed.”
You just stared at him as he looked around, then he looked as though he suddenly remembered something, “Oh yeah! My names Shanks. The guy that’s asleep is Buggy.” He smiled at you. Smiled. At you. You. The one holding the gun at him.
So pirates were just that stupid.
Shanks started to wander around, opening drawers and tossing things around, “Hey stop that!” You ordered, lowering the gun. Glancing out the window you noticed the commotion had ceased. “Hey look at that…” you trailed off, “Look at what?!” Shanks whipped around looking out the same winder you were, you instantly smacked him on the back of his head, “Dumb pirate!”
“Ow!!” He shrieked, “What the hell was that for?!” His head turned to you, “For trying to steal from the Vice Admiral you dumb skank!” “I told you my name was Shanks!” “What?!” At this point it was just a screaming match, you’d both completely abandoned your missions.
The arguments only silenced when the door opened once more, revealing your father, the Vice Admiral. “What is going on in here?” His voice boomed over yours, “Dad!” You saluted, “DAD?!” Shanks shouted, jaw dropping, head turning from you to Garp and back to you.
“I caught these two trying to steal from your office, sir!” You pointed at Shanks, who looked offended that you ‘ratted’ him out. A loud laugh erupted from behind the Vice Admiral, stepping beside him and coming forward as Gol D. Roger.
Roger’s hands were placed on his hips, smile spread across his face. “Well look at you Shanks, beaten by a girl! Say little lass, have you ever thought of becoming a pirate?” He turned to you.
You. A pirate?
The only thing Garp has ever taught you was that pirates were ruthless killers. Yet here was one of the most dangerous and wanted man on a Marine ship asking if you wanted to be a pirate.
“Me…?” You mumbled. Garp glared, giving you an expecting look. “No. I can’t. I have my duties as a Marine. S-sorry…?” You didn’t know if you should apologized, he’d openly welcomed you despite being enemies, the least you could do is apologize.
“Let’s go Shanks, we’re setting sail,” he turned to leave, “oh, and don’t forget Buggy too.” Shanks went back to grab his blue haired friend, “What, we’re just going to let them go? Father, they’re pirates, our job is to catch them!” Garp sighed, “They haven’t done anything wrong. By law, we must let them go.”
Shanks passed you, Buggy on his back, he turned slightly to face you once more; sticking his tongue out and pulling his eyelid down. Asshole. His laughter ran out in your ears, “Don’t miss me too much!” You clenched your fists, “I’ll arrest you next time, dumb pirate!”
——
Years passed and you hadn’t crossed paths with Shanks yet, but every so often, his wanted poster was always on a board in the corner of her eye; reminding you that he was still out there, and of your promise to one day catch him.
Unfortunately the Marines hadn’t classed him as a high enough level to put a bounty on Shanks. But his mere association with Roger has him on a wanted poster.
You were now 15, a Rear Admiral, the youngest in Marine history. You were Garps right hand woman. Those who knew better knew not to mess with you, but there were times that drunks stumble across a ‘hopeless young lady’ that ‘needs saving’. Needless to say a popular nickname for you was the ‘Man-killer’, though you didn’t actually kill them; Garp wouldn’t let you.
You were allowed to go out and deal with some of the pirates that Garp had classified as ‘lower level’. He didn’t want to show it, but he didn’t want his baby girl to get hurt, despite not even being his biological daughter.
On a regular patrol, Garp had gotten word that a group of pirates were overtaking Shellspire Island (Fake!); which wasn’t too far from the island you were supposed to dock at. Shellspire Island was an island of constant motion, being built upon an ancient sea creature.
Garp boarded his ship, you at his side, your Rear Admiral coat hanging off your shoulders like your father figure. “We go there—” you cut him off before he could finish speaking, “—Mass arrest; leader first, crew falls apart, minimal damage, compensate for damage caused by pirates.” Garp nodded in approval, “Perfect.”
You barked orders at cadets not much older then you. You made it up to the quarterdeck, and to the helm. Your log pose strapped on your wrist, you were one of the best navigators in the marines; whenever you weren’t training your face was buried in a book of maps, their lines, angles and colours fascinated you.
The Marine ship began sailing east to Shellspire Island, the trip taking a day at most. Cadets called land as the island appeared in the island, and some reported to you that there were multiple pirate ships docked on the island.
A cadet took over on the helm as you made your way to Garp’s office, knocking once, you opened the door and relayed the messages. “Which other pirates are on the island?” He questioned, “Majority are low-level,” you took a breath in, “And Roger is there too, sir.” Garp went silent, processing what you’d told him. “Prepare the troops, tell them to not engage with Roger’s crew, only those we originally came for.” “Understood.” You saluted and existed the office.
On deck cadets and troop leaders were in formation, guns by their sides. “We are to only attack the pirates we came here for. Gol D. Roger and his crew are to be left untouched, is that clear?” The men cried “Yes Sir!” In unison. You paused, glaring at them, “Yes, ‘sir’?” You repeated.
You could feel the fear dripping off each Marine troop; only calming when Garp emerged from his office, placing a hand on your shoulder. You fell back, letting the Vice Admiral take charge.
Seeing the Oro Jackson up close again felt unreal, a ship you’d only seen in your dreams for the past five years. And abord that ship was the red-head that haunted your nightmares, that was always at the back of your mind. Shanks. And yet you weren’t supposed to engage if you were to spot him.
“Remember—” “—No engaging the Roger Pirates.” You cut him off once more, Garp nodded, though he knew it’d be a struggle to stop you if they were to agitate you.
Chore boys tied the ship to the dock. Stepping off, you now knew why they called it ‘Shellspire Island’, shells of various shapes, colours and sizes, covered the ground, and decorated buildings.
You could hear it before you saw it; civilians screams, and pirates demands for anything valuable. The Marine troops flooded the area, guns aimed and ready. You unsheathed your own flintlock, the same one you had when you were a cadet, and the one you pulled on Shanks.
You held the gun tightly in your hands, standing close to the Vice Admiral incase someone were to be foolish enough to attack. Watching the troops slowly starting to arrest the rookie pirates, you and Garp passed a lively bar; seemingly untouched by the events outside.
You were able to get a peak through the window of the bar. Roger Pirates. They were right in there, all of them. All. At the center you saw a head of red hair and straw hat dancing around. Shanks.
Garp could sense your drifting mind, “Easy. They aren’t doing anything.” You turned your focus forward, but not without noticing the pair of eyes that had been glued on you.
The rest of the arrest went off without a hitch, the pirates were stuffed in the prison below deck, and the village mayor thanked you and Garp for saving them, the rest of the cadets filed back to the ship; getting ready to sail.
Going back to the ship, you passed the bar once more; you took another glance inside, the pirates still boozing around. “How about we get ourselves a drink?” Garp asked, stopping in his tracks. He waved an officer over, telling him that you’d be back within the hour, and dismissed him.
Stepping into the bar, everything went silent. All eyes were on you and your father, but all they saw were Marines. “Can we just leave…” you mumbled, Garp laughed, and slapped your back, making you stumble slightly forward. Still you followed him as he walked to the bar counter, which had started to clear as you sat on the stools, which just so happened to be beside Gol D. Roger.
Garp ordered two beers, even though you were too young to drink. You slid the coat off your shoulders, like a weight being lifted off your back. Yes y oh loved your father, but he put so much pressure on you to be a Marine, to be a perfect Marine.
You took a sip of the beer, the carbonized alcohol stinging your throat. You didn’t bother to turn when someone sat on the seat beside you, the smug air around him gave it away.
Shanks was sitting beside you.
“Care to dance?” You finally glanced at Shanks when he extended his hand out to you, “I’m assuming you’re off duty.” That overly excited smile spread across his face once more, “Why would I want to dance with you, dumb pirate.” “What’s wrong with a little fun?” Shanks tilted his head, cocking an eyebrow.
You looked over to Garp, who was happily slurping down another beer. You turned back at Shanks, hand still out and his eyes hopeful. You chugged back the rest of your beer, slamming the mug back on the counter. You wiped your face with the back of your hand, and with the other, you clapped your hand in his.
Shanks smiled even wider, if that was possible, and he pulled you to your feet; the coat on your lap fell to the floor. You could feel the glaring eyes of the village girls boring into you as Shanks pulled you close to dance.
Dancing wasn’t apart of your Marine training, so to say you were stiff was an understatement. The band was playing in the background; a song you didn’t recognize. Your ironed uniformed crinkled under Shanks hand around your waist, your hand still tightly held by his.
Shanks smelled of alcohol, sea salt, and freedom. He moved loosely, swinging you around to the beat of the music. You’ve stepped on his feet 8, no 9, times now? But you couldn’t tell, the smile he wore never washed off.
You’ve never felt this free.
You finally allowed yourself to relax, for the first time in a long time.
You were getting dizzy from all the spinning, but you couldn’t stop the laughs that erupted from you; giggling as Shanks twirled you.
You lost track of time, you and Shanks in your own little bubble of space, forgetting that you two were enemies; pirate and Marine. “Y’know—” Before Shanks could finish speaking Garp stood from his bar stool, “Time to go, Rear Admiral (Name).”
You straightened up, stepping back from Shanks. He couldn’t exactly read your expression, fear? Disgust that you were actually having fun with a pirate? It didn’t matter, Shanks now knew your name. (Name). It’s been etched into his very being now.
You flattened the wrinkles that were proof that Shanks had laid his hands on the clean fabric. You grabbed your coat, placing it back on your shoulders, the weight returning, a shield from the life of freedom. You shot one last glance back at Shanks, and unlike him, you could read him like a book; dissapointed that the fun had come to an end.
The pirate life wasn’t for everyone.
——
The streets were filled with people.
Everyone screaming and shouting.
You could see your adoptive father, Vice Admiral Garp, standing up on the high platform.
Gol D. Roger kneeling before the crowd. Cuffed. Spears pointing at his back.
The man that once embodied freedom, now in chains.
You looked around for something, someone, in particular. He had to be here. That’s his captain.
Garp finished his speech, allowing Roger to say his last words.
Your ears were ringing.
Everyone was sent into a frenzy.
Everyone needed to be the first to find Gol D. Roger’s treasure. Pirates and civilians alike fled to the docks.
You screamed at Marines to keep people in place.
But then you saw him.
Shanks.
Tears were streaming down his face. He had just watched his captain get executed.
You took a step towards him. He looked hollow, nothing like what he was when you two had danced just months ago.
Shanks turned to face you, eyes dark and determined, “I’m coming back for you.” You didn’t know if he meant that as a promise or a threat.
With that Shanks left, alone.
You wanted to tell him, yell at him— beg him— to come back. That he didn’t have to leave. But you knew he wouldn’t listen to you.
But you knew that once he put his mind to something, he wasn’t going to stop. Dumb pirate.
——
17.
You were 17, and you were caged in the Marines as a Vice Admiral.
Just like your father.
Just like your father wanted.
Your Vice Admiral coat was heavier then the last, more responsibilities, more expectations, more pressure.
It’s been two years since Shanks told you he’d come for you.
You’d cry into your pillow, praying he’d come save you from this life. You wanted to be free.
Garp decided to throw a party in honour of your promotion. Not you. The promotion.
You were getting tired of drunk subordinates congratulating you, and wasted co-workers for father’s age hitting on you.
You excused yourself, stepping out on the balcony. The moon and stars illuminating the night sky. I need you, Shanks. You thought to yourself, praying that somehow he’d hear your thoughts.
The wind picked up for a moment, then died down like it never happened. You could feel the presence of someone with you on the balcony. Looking side to side there was no one.
You turned ready to leave, when the window door closed. The one who closed it? Shanks. You’ve dreamt of this moment. But not in the way you had in the past, not hoping to arrest him. Hoping he’d come save you.
Shanks stepped forward, his white dress shirt tousled and unbuttoned, showing off muscular torso. You only allowed your eyes to glance down for a moment before darting back up to his face, “Like what you see, Vice Admiral?” He joked.
You scoffed, “What are you doing here, dumb pirate?” Shanks now stood beside you, back leaning against the railing. “I’m doing what I said I’d do. I’ve come to get you.” He leaned forward, he still smelled like sea salt, and freedom. “How did you get in?” You questioned, crossing your arms. “When there’s a room full of drunk old guys, they don’t notice much,” he tilted the rim of his straw hat up, “plus, it’s helpful if you’ve been here the whole night.”
He’d been here? The whole night? Waiting for you.
You were intrigued. You hummed, leaning forward, hands dangling over the railing. “My crew still needs a navigator,” your head snapped back to Shanks, “I could use one of your skills.” He tilted his head back, like this would give him a view inside of you and your thoughts.
“Your crew? You want me to become a pirate?” You laughed, and Shanks looked stunned, just for a moment. He quickly regained his composure, “Roger invited you to join his crew, that offer still stands with mine.” “And why should I?” You leaned forward, a smile playing on your face. You were testing the waters, and if that’s how you wanted to play, then Shanks could double down too.
He stood straight, signaling for you to follow. You stood, back straightening, shoulders rolled back. Shanks stepped forward, you could feel his breath. His fingers hovered over your exposed arms, close enough that you could feel the heat being emitted from his body.
His hands trailed up your arms and to your shoulders, where your Vice Admiral coat rested. His hands slipped under the fabric, and in one swift motion the coat was on the ground of the balcony.
The cool air sent a shiver up your spine, “You deserve freedom, not being confined to being something you’re not.” Shanks’ voice was soft, but he spoke like it was a fact. His hands reached up to your cheeks, thumbs brushing away tears you didn’t know had fallen.
“I’m your key to freedom. Right here, right now,” Shanks took your hand in his, bringing it to his chest; you could feel his steady heartbeat, his skin warm in contrast to the coldness of the night. “All you have to do is say yes.” His voice was barely above a whisper.
The look in his eyes, the same look when he first asked you to dance. He was hopeful.
“I’ll come with you.”
Shanks practically jumped with joy, lifting you in the air and spinning around. You heard a thunk against the railing of the balcony, a ladder was leaning against the railing, “That must be our crew.” He placed you down, “Our crew?” You raised an eyebrow, “Yeah, our, I need a righthand woman.”
You stepped to grab your coat, the one you’d been force to work for, looping it through your arms. Shanks watched, but never questioned you, just watched.
Shanks wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you closer. You two swung over the railing, Shanks sliding down the ladder. Your feet hit the floor simultaneously, and you were met with three other pair of eyes, “Well hello pretty lady!” The largest of the three spoke, “I’m Lucky Roux,” he pointed to a man with a cigar in his mouth, “that’s Benn Beckman,” and then moved to the last of the three, “and the short one is Yasopp.” Yasopp choked on the air, glaring at Lucky Roux as the two began to bicker.
Benn Beckman stepped forward, extending his hand to you, “So you’re the captains girlfriend.” You froze for a moment, both you and Shanks stumbling over your words. “I am not his girlfriend!” You finally spoke, “Weird. The way he was always going on about you, you’d think you two would’ve hooked up at least once.” Benn mumbled, “We have a ship to catch!” Shanks exclaimed, making an excuse, but it was hard to ignore the voices that started to get louder, some calling your name.
Yasopp, Roux and Benn ran ahead. You stayed put, hesitating for a moment. “Hey, c’mon beautiful we gotta go. Like right now.” Shanks grabbed your hand, leading you away from the only life you’ve ever known.
——
The first night was rough, not because you were seasick. Not at all, the sea was more of a home than the land.
But it was a guilty feeling. The guilt you knew you didn’t have to feel.
You gave up trying to sleep, sneaking to the deck. Lucky Roux was able to find some old clothes that you could use as pyjamas, but you’d have to survive in your uniform until you docked at the next island to get new clothes.
The breeze mixed with the smell of sea salt, grounding you. You sat on the railing, not worrying if you’d fall in or not. “Can’t sleep?” Shanks’ voice filled your ears, he stopped beside you, looking out at the same sea you were. You allowed yourself to lean against him, your head resting on his shoulder.
For a moment the world went silent. Just you and Shanks once more, out on the open ocean. He rested his head on yours, his lips pressed to the top of your head, his arm wrapping around your waits, holding you close to him.
He suddenly picked you up, like you weighed nothing. “Where are we going?” You finally asked, “My quarters.” He answered naturally, an easy going smile on his face, not showing any malicious intent.
Shanks opened the door to his room with his foot, plopping you down on the bed. You sat up, leaning on your hands. Shanks stood at the foot of the bed, just watching you once more. You could feel your cheeks heat up under his gaze.
Shanks had obviously flirted with many women at various ports; but at his young age, Roger never let him take them to bed. Not to mention none of them left a mark like you did.
He crawled on the bed, his face inches from yours. “Thank you for coming with me.” He whispered, “Thank you for setting me free,” you took in his scent, still the same from the other times you’ve smelt him, “but you’re still a dumb pirate.” “I’m your dumb pirate.” He pressed his lips to yours, he wasn’t rough like you expected. He was gentle, it felt inexperienced. Not that you were one to talk, you had no time for love in the Marines.
The rest of the night was filled with kisses, whispers, love.
——
The rising sun filtered through the window in Shanks’ room. You slowly opened your eyes; lifting your head from Shanks’ chest, taking in the sight. Shanks was under you, one arm loosely around your waist, the other spread out. He really did sleep like a starfish…
You placed a gentle peck on Shanks’ chest, dark marks and love bites littered you both. Carefully, you slipped out of his grasp, Shanks mumbled something incoherent as you did so, you smiled to yourself. He really was something else.
You pulled your pyjama’s on once more, looking back at the sprawled out sleeping Shanks, you placed a final kiss to his fore head.
Soundlessly, you crept to the room. You slowly shut the door, finally stepping away; you turned to head back to your room before anyone saw you. Only to be met with Benn standing right before you, a dumbfound look on his face, “Morning…” he spoke slowly, recovering from his shock. “Morning.” You replied, head lowered in embarrassment, “Just wanted to let the captain know that we’ll be reaching land by noon,” he glanced at your neck, “but I’m guessing that he’s still knocked out?”
You rubbed your neck, “Yeah… sorry about that.” “No problem. I’ll tell him when, or if, he wakes.” Benn began to pass you, “Uh… you mind not telling anyone about… this?” Benn smiled knowingly, “Your secrets safe with me, you have my word.” You bowed slightly, “I see why Shanks chose you as his first mate.” Benn nodded in thanks and continued on his way.
You on the other hand, bolted to your room so no one else would spot you. You adorned your Marine uniform once more, not bothering to fix the wrinkles that had formed like you would have in the past. But grateful that the collar covered the marks Shanks left last night.
You stepped out of your cabin, the sun fully risen now. You could hear Yasopp practicing his shots on empty cans and Roux laughing when he missed. Shanks had certainly gathered a motley crew so far.
“Morning (Name)! Sleep well?” Roux called out to you, you felt your heart drop to your ass. But remembered that Benn had given you his word to not tell the others, “Yeah, it was good! Feels like home already.” “That’s good to hear.” Shanks spoke up behind you. Walking past to greet the others, he was able to cover his own marks by buttoning his shirt, he didn’t have as nearly many as you did.
Benn faced the red-head, “We’ll be docking at noon, captain,” Shanks nodded, “and (Name), I have something for you too. An early ‘welcome to the crew’ gift.” Benn held out a log pose, “Thanks Benn!” You smiled and took the log pose, strapping it to your wrist.
You spent the rest of the time at the helm, making sure the ship was headed in the right direction. “So, how’s it feel? Being an official navigator?” Shanks was leaning on the stairs railing, “Better.” You replied.
“Land ho!” Yasopp called from the crow’s nest, you rolled your eyes, you knew there was land, the log post was pointing directly at it. Lucky Roux started preparing to dock once you reached the island.
Luckily there were no Marine ships docked, you could feel yourself visibly relax, Shanks noticed too. Benn tied the ship to a post, Roux lowering the anchor. “So what are you gonna buy first, (Name)?” Yasopp asked, stepping down the ramp, “If I had money, probably clothes. I don’t think folks would like to see me in this uniform.” You tugged at the white fabric.
“Fair enough, but good news is, money is something we’ve got lots of.” He smiled proudly, “Did you steal it?” You questioned, “Not all of it!” Yasopp answered, waving some of the paper around. You sighed.
“Here,” Shanks forced a small pouch into your hand, “This is stolen money, Shanks.” You stated, pushing the pouch back to his chest, only for him to push it back to you, “You’re a pirate now remember? Doesn’t matter how we get the money, unless you plan on stealing the clothes…?” You huffed, stuffing the pouch in your pocket.
“Don’t worry sweetheart, you’ll get used to the pirate life soon enough,” Shanks patted your back, offering you a reassuring smile. He glanced at the dock, seeing that the crew was gone, “you’ll be safe. As long as you’re in my crew, I promise you that.” He lifted your hand, pressing your knuckles to his mouth. “Thank you, captain.” You teased, “Aw man, I was just getting used to ‘dumb pirate’.”
You both laughed, and you began to head into the city, “See you later, dumb pirate.” You waved, finally leaving the dock.
Walking around the bustling streets of the city, vendors called to you, jewelry, pots, food. You should probably get some food, you doubt that the crew have had a proper meal in a while. You popped into a small clothing store, ran by an older woman, her poor eyes widened at the sight of your uniform, “Sorry to bother you ma’am, I just left the Marines.” You bowed, “I see…”
You had no idea what classified as ‘pirate clothing’ so you settled on pieces that fit properly and allowed you the most mobility. You picked out a (f/c) flowy dress shirt style, paired with (black/blue) cargo shorts.
You grabbed a few more items, the sweet lady bagging the clothes for you. You slipped into the changing room, stripping your uniform and pulling on your new ‘pirate clothes’ (photos above). You clipped your gun holster back on your thigh, you caught a glimpse of yourself in the mirror.
You looked… weird. Not weird, different. A good different.
You stepped out, thanking the lady once more and leaving the store. Bags hanging from your arm, money pouch secured in your new shorts. You found the nearest trashcan, tossing the white uniform in it without hesitation. The last connection you had to your old life was the flintlock strapped to your thigh, but you couldn’t bear to throw that away.
Wandering around the stalls you also bought various meats, seasoning, vegetables and fruits that should last the next few months. If you were lucky. Before setting off to search for your crew you set back to the ship, stocking the food in the kitchen and your new clothes in your room.
With the sun setting you could only assume the group of boys were slugging it around in a bar. Problem was, this little island was full of bars.
After the fifth bar you felt like giving up, until you heard your name being called. You peaked into the bar, laughter, music, and dancing filled the space. “(Name)! Hey baby!” You chuckled nervously as a drunken Shanks waved you over, women of all ages flanked and fawned him.
Jealousy tinged your soul, as you stepped forward some of the girls with minds saw this as their sign to leave, while others still clung to Shanks. You now stood in front of where he sat, you lifted his chin woth your hand, his hands instantly finding your waist.
“Well don’t you look pretty~” Shanks slurred, hands stroking your waist, eyes scanning your body. The last of the women that surrounded Shanks had dispersed at the contact. “Don’t you think it’s time to rest?” You coaxed him, moving his hat so it was around his neck, your hand running through his hair. Shanks rested his head on your stomach, your other hand rubbing his back.
“A nap sounds nice…” his voice was muffled by the fabric of your shirt, “if you’re there~” you laughed at his antics, “You’re too drunk to be this cheeky.” Shanks giggled, leaning into your touch. Benn walked over, “We’re turning in for the night, good luck with him.” He motioned from Lucky Roux carrying a very wasted Yasopp to the very clingy Shanks. “See you.” You waved, Shanks following your movement, lazily waving at his crew.
“Alright, let’s go.” You heaved as you lifted Shanks. The bastard putting all his weight on you. His arm slung over your shoulders, while yours gripped his waist.
Somewhere in between the bar and the dock Shanks had passed out completely, his legs dragging behind him. You lugged him up the ramp to the ship, plopping him on deck so you could raise the ramp so no one could board the ship while everyone slept.
You hauled Shanks one last time, passing a thirsty Lucky Roux on the way to his room, “Need help?” Roux laughed, you brushed him off, “No, I’m good, rest well!”
After what felt like forever, you opened the door with your free hand. Practically dropping Shanks face first on the bed, you lifted his legs so that his entire body was on the bed. You unbuttoned his shirt, removing it from his sweating body. You did a final check to make sure Shanks was alright, leaving a glass of water at his desk, giving him a final kiss to his temple.
Shanks’ face lifted, a smile playing on his lips. His hand reaching for your wrist. “Stay…~” his eyes opened, half-lidded, yet looking at you with such adoration despite his drunken state.
How could you refuse?
You removed your shirt, keeping your shorts on. You slid under Shanks, who instantly clung to you like a Koala. His head resting on your chest.
Sure, the pirate life wasn’t for everyone.
But at this time, under the moon, in bed with Shanks, the man you loved.
Right then you knew, the pirate life was meant for you.
You and your dumb pirate.

Song: My Love Mine All Mine — Mitski
——————————————————————————
The ceremony was small, just you two and the crew. Venue set up on the main deck of the Red Force, out in the middle of the ocean.
And you wouldn’t have it any other way.
Yasopp was the ‘flower girl’, Hongo was the ring bearer, Lucky Roux walked you down the aisle, Benn officiated the wedding, and Shanks?
He cried the moment he saw you.
The dress wasn’t extravagant. Hell, it wasn’t even a dress. Benn had forced you to buy at least something white for the ceremony.
You exchanged vows, placing the rings on the others finger; granted Shanks was missing the proper hand (and arm), the ring fit perfectly. Finally you two kissed, and the whole crew erupted. Shanks carried you down the aisle. You had no idea how, but you were carried bridal style with his one arm wrapped securely around you.
The whole crew was celebrating, everyone had drinks in their hands. Everyone except your now husband, which is very uncharacteristic of him. You took your place beside him, running your hand through his hair, “Everything alright, love?” You asked.
Shanks leaned into your touch, humming. “I need to talk to you about something.” He slowly stood, extending his hand out to you. You took it, and he brushed his thumb over the ring on your finger, smiling to himself.
Yasopp whispered something to Lucky Roux, who started to whistle, “Already off to honeymoon, Cap?!” He called, words slurring. Shanks chuckled, “Something like that.” He glanced to you, winking. You could feel your cheeks flush.
Sure, Shanks was a flirt. But surely he couldn’t be this eager, right?
Shanks led you to your shared cabin, hand still gently holding yours; only letting go to open the door. He led you to the bed, sitting on the edge, you right beside him.
There was a comfortable silence, you took in every little detail of Shanks’ face, the scars on his eye, the scruff on his chin, the way he slicked his hair back to look at least somewhat presentable.
You were snapped out of your daze when Shanks put his hand on your thigh. “(Name),” his voice was soft, unsure, which was also unlike him. “You know of my past. Of what the name I was burdened with means,” his eyes were trained to the floor boards, “I don’t want this name to haunt me, or you, or any little demon we conjure in the future,” Shanks smiled, finally looking up at you.
“I want to have your last name.”
Your heart rate sped up, hammering against your ribs. He wants your last name? For a moment, your voice failed you. You’d never expect him to ask you this.
“Of course.”
You finally answered. You raised your hand, brushing your knuckles against his cheek, Shanks raised his hand to hold yours in place on his face.
“Shanks (Your Last Name)…” you tested it out, kissed his cheek. Then you laughed. The only melody that Shanks wanted to hear, “And whats’ so funny?” He questioned. You buried your face in the crook of his neck, “Nothin’. It’s just…” you took in a deep breath of his scent, sea salt and wood, “it’s perfect.”
You two spent the rest of the night together, wrapped in each other, talking of the future, kisses peppered over one another. You’d decided to tell the crew of the decision in the morning, while they were healing from their hang overs.
Shanks fell asleep before you, you caressed his chest, placing gentle kisses over the rough skin. You loved your husband. You loved that he felt comfortable enough to abandon his birth name to take yours.
Shanks was never one to sleep without you. Even when you two were on the Oro Jackson and Buggy would tease him endlessly for sliding into your bed late at night.
So when he woke up without you in his arms— arm, really— Shanks started to panic.
The room was a mess in minutes, searching everywhere you could possibly be, under the blankets, under the bed, under the table, in the cabinets, everywhere. Then he started to take his search outside your shared bedroom.
You on the other hand, had been bothered by this map for the past two days. The original maker had failed to draw the axis lines correctly, making anyone who used it go northwest instead of north.
You’d been redrawing the map in your spare time, including tonight.
Only your work went on longer than you expected, and exhaustion caught you in its clutches.
Which is why you were now face first on the workbench, drool starting to fall, leaking down into the map.
By now Shanks had searched the medic room, the crows nest, above and below deck, and the engine room.
Why would you be in any of those? Well, besides the crows nest. You were up there quite often, scaring Shanks to death.
Almost like a lightbulb went off in his head, Shanks tiptoed to the navigation room. The room filled to the brim with maps, paper, and ink. The door creaked open, Shanks poked his head through, spotting your hunched form over the table.
He sighed, fully stepping into the room, he leaves you off the table, turning the chair to face him. He slid his arm under you, lifting you against his broad chest. You stirred, wrapping your arms around his neck, your legs straddling his hips.
“Uncomfortable?” He cooed into your ear, you nodded, face buried in the crook of his neck. This reminded you of the countless other times Shanks’ carried you to bed, when you two were much younger— sure— but he’d always find you in the same spot if you weren’t in your own bed, or with him.
Shanks carried you back to your— his— room, plopping you on the bed, gently. He took his place directly over you, head resting on your chest, you could feel him trying to have both arms around you; his right arm snaking around your waist, while his stub rested comfortably on the side of your waist, your legs were tangled together.
Shanks needed every bit of him in contact with you, even at the cost of suffocating you. That was what you signed up for when you two became a proper couple, endless nights of love and cuddles.

Song: Head Over Heels — Tears for Fears
Getting to be on the Sunny was the best thing to ever happen to you, after Luffy showed you what it meant to be truly free.
You two had been attached to the hip ever since.
You’d put your mechanical skills to the use, welding any pipe leaks and screwing the engine. You also loved working with Franky, he was the best father figure you could ask for.
Sure you had your own bunk in the girls cabin, but you preferred a habitat you were familiar with.
Which is why most nights you stuffed yourself into a cabinet in the engine room, the hums and heat of the metal lulling you to sleep better than any rocking wave or sea salt breeze.
Your captain was a huge cuddle bug. Which you’d learned the hard way after you woke with Luffy fully wrapped around you, and you meant fully, thanks to the gum-gum fruit.
Unfortunately for Luffy, during the nights you stayed in the engine room he could never find you, leading him to sulk back to his room like a kicked puppy.
But after a particularly rough night, the unusual nightmares that every so often plagued his mind, got the best of him. Luffy was more determined to find you this time.
He instantly knew where you were, how had he not thought of this earlier?
Luffy bursted through the door of the engine room, “(Name)!” He called out to you. You hummed, poking your head out of your hiding spot. Luffy bounded over, hopping into the cabinet with you.
You laughed at Luffy’s antics while he tried to get comfortable, his body bending in positions not possible for a normal human. Probably because he wasn’t a normal human.
He was your captain after all.
He rested his head in your chest, placing your legs on either side of him, coiling his arms around you. There was hardly enough space for the two of you in the small cabinet, yet Luffy made it his mission to fit in there with you.
And you knew Luffy was determined.
Finally you both got comfortable, Luffy not moving a muscle, out cold. You ran your hand through his hair, smiling to yourself about your idiot captain.
You could get used to sharing your private space with Luffy.
Law
Law x Engineer! Reader
Song: Glue Song — beabadoobee
Law was never one to admit that he needed you beside him to sleep.
He never needed to.
You already knew.
Always staying beside him during the long nights without needed to be asked. And Law wouldn’t habe it any other way.
As long as none of the crew find out. Especially Ikkaku, Shachi, Penguin and Bepo…
But after a fatal attack from an opposing pirate crew had you locked in the engine room all day and night.
Leaving Law pacing around his own room, wondering when you’d return.
Once the clock hit 1:30 am, Law set out to find you. Feet quiet, eyes fierce. Any crew member that saw him didn’t dare interact, didn’t even wave, or look at him for that matter.
Law now stood before the engine room that you had encased yourself in.
He’d complain that you were over working yourself, but Law knew that he was no better.
The door opened with a creek, slamming behind him. He began his search through the maze of pipes.
Law tried his best to avoid the soot and oil that seemed to always adorn your skin, though despite his best efforts, the mess still found him.
After turning left and left and right then left, he was lost.
Law had no idea that the room was this big.
He was so close to giving up. But the only thing that kept him going was finding you so he could sleep. And because you knew the way out of this hellhole.
Law backed up, bumping into a pipe.
Only this pipe was soft.
And he was no engineer, but he knew that pipes were firm. And metal.
Law whipped around, finding you.
Glued to a pipe.
Literally.
You were on the side of the pipe, arms and legs wrapped tightly around the warm metal like a koala. Drool starting to slip from your mouth.
Law let out a sigh of relief, he poked your cheek, causing you to stir, “Law…?” You mumbled, your mouth now dry. “Yeah it’s me,” he spoke softly, placing his hand on your head, “we need to get out of here.”
You nodded, prying yourself off the pipe. Suddenly clinging to Law the same way you did to the metal.
Law accepted his fate, as long as you led him out of there. Your head was resting on his shoulder; whispering directions into his ear, your arms wrapped loosely around his neck while his hands were firmly holding your thighs.
Law was able to walk back to his room after exiting the engine room, swearing that he’d never enter that room ever again. You were back to sleeping, Law didn’t dare wake you, knowing that you’d been overworking yourself, and knowing that the thing you both needed most right now was a good nights rest.
Law laid on his bed, pulling the covers over you both. You sighed, muscles relaxing after sleeping uncomfortably like that for a prolonged time. Law ran his hand through your hair, feeling a sense of ease to have you in his arms once more.
The person that means most to him.
Ace
Ace x Medic! Reader
Song: Love Me Harder — Ariana Grande & The Weeknd
Night abord the Moby Dick was quiet, and Ace was… cold?
He sat upright, rubbing his eyes. His vision coming into focus, though he didn’t need to see to know that you weren’t beside him.
Despite being a literal human heater, Ace needed your warmth at night to lull him to sleep properly.
Ever since Ace joined the crew at 17, you were the one stopping Ace from trying to kill Whitebeard— by any means necessary— somehow in between all of that you two became close, and Ace started relying on you for a good night sleep.
Though that wasn’t hard with his narcolepsy.
Nonetheless, Ace trudged out of bed, tumbling around to look for you. The moon illuminated the deck, you wouldn’t be in the crows nest, and you weren’t an engineer, so Ace first checked in the Med-room, where you spent most of the days cooped in; taking care of the dumb crew mates— in Ace’s eyes— who get injured— on purpose, also in Ace’s opinion— and steal you away from him.
Ace started to grow irritated, pacing all over the ship. The waves rocking it as per usual. Only he realized that the door to the captains room was open.
At first you’d fallen asleep with Ace in your arms, where he so desperately wanted to be, but you started having strange dreams. Nightmares really. That everyone you loved started getting sick, a sickness you didn’t know the cure for.
The crew would beg you to help them, clawing at you for a cure. Then it’d change to Ace, Marco, Whitebeard and so many others dead at your feet. You woke with a start, Ace still sleeping like a rock beside you.
You slipped out of bed, stumbling over to Whitebeard’s room. You opened the door, Whitebeard, the man you considered to be your father, was awake at his desk. He turned to face you, “What’s wrong, my daughter?” You couldn’t get any words out, tears streaming down your face.
He held you close until you fell asleep. Which is where you still are, in his arms as he worked.
Ace swung open the door, “Old man—” “Shh, you’ll wake her up.” Whitebeard turned in his seat, revealing you to Ace, cutting him off before he could say another word.
Ace rushed over to you, taking you into his arms. You leaned into his warmth, and Ace smiled to himself. “What happened?” He whispered, “A nightmare, stress getting to her.” Whitebeard turned back to his work.
Ace carried you back to his room, laying you down on the bed once more, “Ace…?” You stirred. Ace pulled you close to him, his warmth engulfing you, “I’m right here, firefly.” He kissed the top of your head.
You fell back into your slumber, the nightmares no longer haunting you. Ace made sure to hold you extra close that night.

Song: Lover Girl — Laufey
You’d been filling out paperwork all day, Garp kept handing you more and more every hour. To the point you thought he was giving you his own load of paperwork.
You’d stayed up for three days straight, Koby checked in every now and then. Even though you swore up and down that you were taking care of yourself, he knew deep down that you weren’t.
The moon rose on another sleepless night, you just finished signing your name on another piece of paper, your hand cramping, your fifth cup of coffee on the corner of your desk.
You could feel your head bobbing, your grip on the pen loosening, the world fading to black.
Your head hit the table. Hard.
Koby started to grow weary, he’d voiced his concerns to Garp. Without explicitly stating that you two were together. Not only would it be a humiliation ritual, but also wrong on both your sides; in the eyes of the Marines.
Grap could only tell Koby that he’d try to get you home. ‘Home’ being the one you two shared together.
Koby made his way back to your office, he knocked on the door once. Twice. Three times.
Still no answer.
Koby peeked his head through the door, freezing as he saw you hunched over your desk. Your cheek was pressed into the paper, stacks upon stacks surrounded you; your pen still in your hand, leaking ink on the desk.
Koby stepped forward, knowing exactly which floor board to avoid making a sound from the countless times that he’d snuck into your office before. He found himself beside you.
He stood there for a moment, pondering how he’d get you out of your office and home. He glanced around the room, spotting the couch leaning against the wall.
It was hypothetically big enough to fit the both of you, and he could hypothetically carry you there, and he hypothetically wanted to cuddle with you.
Okay, maybe that last one wasn’t a hypothetical.
But he starved to hold you again after three long nights without you. He lifted you from the chair, hands under your thighs, your head rested on his shoulder.
Koby laid back on the couch, you on top of him, your legs entangled, his arms wrapped around your waist. You took in a deep breath of his scent, encouraging you to relax further.
“We’ll get caught…” you mumbled into his shirt, voice muffled, “I can go lock the door.” Koby tried to stand, but you grabbed the fabric of his shirt, keeping him under you, “No, don’t go…” you whined.
You fell back asleep listening to Koby’s racing heart, lying over him on the couch. Koby took a moment to glance over all your features, like it was the first time seeing you, his eyes grew heavy; finally giving into sleep.
Corazon
Corazon x Wife! Reader
Song: Out Of Touch — Daryl Hall & John Oates
Corazon had spent another late night in his office noting things for his mission with the Marines.
He hated staying late.
Because it kept him away from you.
And Law…
But mainly you.
Corazon let out a long sigh, flipping through pages and pages of his notes and evidence against his own family.
All he wanted to do was go home, smoke a cigarette and love you.
His beautiful wife and partner in crime.
Cora gave up trying to work, closing the notebook and placing it into a secret compartment in his desk.
He used his devil fruit ability to make himself silent. Slipping through the halls like a ghost, striding through the streets and finally stopping in front of his cosy little home.
You’d chosen it, after all it was only until he’d finished the mission. Then you’d leave this rotten island, going far far away, buy a real home; far away from others, grow old together, raise a cat or two, hell maybe you’d be able to give Law the life he deserves.
When Corazon opened the door he was greeted with darkness, only the dim candle lights in the living room shone.
Corazon leaned in the door way, taking in the sight before him.
You were lying on the couch, Law curled on top against your chest. Cora felt his heart clench, he clutched the fabric of his shirt just over where his heart rested in his body.
Just looking at you two sleeping, Corazon wished he could run away with you both then and there. Unfortunately he had a job to complete.
He felt your eyes on him. Cora raised his head, seeing you reach out to him. “You’re back.” You smiled. Cora raised your hand, bringing it to his lips. “You two look like a family.” He whispered, lips brushing your knuckles as he spoke.
You moved your hand, cupping his cheek. He crouched beside you, your thumb caressed his cheek bone, Corazon melted with your touch.
He wanted this moment to last forever.
You pulled him closer by his collar, bringing him down to you on the couch. Cora now lied under you, his arms around your waist as you still held Law close to your chest.
This. This was something Corazon could get used to. This is was Corazon looked forward to at the end of the day.
You asleep in his arms. The boy he saved, his son, your son.
The little life Corazon never meant to build, but had quickly become his world.
'this' is zoro who has suddenly shown up as you were re-stitching the hem of a torn shirt (yours, but with one of his repaired and draped over the chair beside you), kneeling before your feet, and pressing his head into your lap.
it's disturbed your stitching slightly, but deftly you've moved your handiwork out of the way, careful not to use your needle and poke out his other eye - something he really should consider the next time. ordinarily, you'd try to pay him no mind, and let him rest as you continued your work, but today he holds on so tightly you wonder if he's attempting to tell you something without actually saying a word.
"you okay?" you finally ask.
face still buried in your lap, you hear a muffled 'yes', and snort to yourself.
"are you being a big baby because you need to be or is there something i should be asking you?"
still muffled, without moving his face, he mutters,
"you're not very nurturing, are you?"
"nope!" you offer cheerfully.
it's his turn to snort, but he hasn't let go still. your free hand rubs carefully over the short crop of his hair, then you let out a sigh.
"you sure you're all right?"
zoro still doesn't say a word. your mind passes quickly through the last few days - conversations, battles, meals, anything that could upset or anything that could cause a surge of emotional fondness... you find that with zoro, all of his emotions mingle and mesh together, muddled and compressed so tightly that they come out as one thing.
which may be him holding you so tightly right now without a word.
as you ponder this for a moment, your hand in rhythmic motion as you stare out at the expanse of the deep blue sea before you, he finally inhales deeply, then sighs.
"you're doing it again."
you blink, then look at him. finally, his head tilts up, his chin resting on the curve of your knee.
"doing what?"
"treating me like i'm some kind of puppy."
your head tilts gently to the side.
"you're the one who came here wordlessly for a hug. do you not expect to be petted when you come in that fashion?"
he gives you a long, appraising look, but in this reverent, practically clinging position, attempting to look upset is futile, even cute.
"difficult," he murmurs.
"yeah, you are," you offer, but your hands close around his face, and slowly he comes up to his feet, guided by the pull of your fingertips, for the kiss he so desperately needs.
