Nowadays, the seas are a haven, many travel to and fro without care nor fearing for their lives. However, in the 1700’s it was an entirely different story indeed. The seas were a dangerous place, many would not travel on them for fear of losing their lives to the waves below thanks to the pirates that ran amok in them. These pirates were cut-throat bandits, who had fear for little and many could be found lying in Davy Jones’ Locker, their breathing c e a s e d and their ships long gone. Ports were created for the soul reason of housing these pirates until they found their ship legs again. These ports kept those who had fear of these people away and many steered clear of them, their ears filled with drunken tales of hangings and blood split over tables as a brawl had taken place. This was a dangerous time, the sea wasn’t safe and sometimes, neither was the land. How could one survive in these times?
