Been A While...
It’s been a while since I have really posted to Tumbler. I have found Instagram to be much easier but, I like the level of detail I can get into with Tumblr.
I won’t get into it like my last posts until the next one but I will share that I have been working hard at learning to Fly Fish most recently. Actually, I started this journey last November. It’s been hard but I think I have finally been having things start to click for me. Here’s what I’ve caught so far!

Such a great trip and I’m officially an annual dual state fishing license holder! Had to cross this little creek to get to the sweet spots. Caught some PRs, a bunch of 17-19” #Bows and one BIG BOY of a #Brown that was bigger than them all in length and girth! Unfortunately I didn’t have the pleasure of sharing a photo moment with him as he was bigger than my net could hold and escaped once I finally removed the hook but, I’ll never forget him! #Smithwick #Rouges are becoming my favorite! As usual, I was using my Emmrod Pacrod. I just love that little thing. I caught the camera shy brown using my newer #Shimano #Zieda combo though with 12lb xl line and a 4 1/2″ Smithwick Rouge at the end of it.

My Next BOW!
I caught this one on an all silver spoon on the southern end of Pathfinder Reservoir where it meets the Platte. These spring trout were really getting it. I don’t recall ever feeling them hit as hard as they were. Just awesome!
Other than my one big #Brown, it seems hubby had all the luck catching them this trip. This was his 2nd and biggest one!

Stepped in at the top of this good little flow and threw out my Rainbow Rapala Jointed-9 Floating lure. Still using the Emmrod. Let that guy float down a little ways until I started the retrieval. Stopping and going. THERE IT IS! This bow hit that lure and I forgot to reset my drag so it was an exciting little fight. No one likes losing a fish after a good fight. Here I am reeling as fast as I can and my line is just screaming at the same time. Finally, I got ‘im in! Wowzers! What a chunk. I have never had the pleasure of seeing such beefy trout. I may not catch as many fish as I see some fly fisherman catching but man do I get some great ones!
Fly fishing is something I really want to learn in the near future. I must admit, I am a little intimated and want to go about it the right way! I also need to stop buying so much new gear so I can save up for a guided trip. LOL

After my “walleye hunt”, I posted my very first catch to Fishidy and really began to explore their fabulous features. I really liked is that you can post your catch directly to the waterway you are fishing and see other’s catches or marked “spots” unless they are marked as private, which is nice if you don’t want to give too much away. It was neat to see other locals out on the water the same nights as I catching fish and to see the spots we choose to fish were producing! It’s almost like we are all sharing our “secrets” with each other because as you may know you should never ask a true angler for their secrets or secret spots.
I also posted my catch to their “Braggin’ Board” after all, it was my first Walleye! Fishidy has a really neat feature where you can post your favorite catch(s) to their “braggin’ board” alongside other community members. It’s safe to say I will be spending a lot more time on Fishidy. It’s not just a social media community of anglers sharing their photos and knowledge but, also a place to look at maps and help you plan for your next outing, which I will be doing before our Wyoming trip soon!
My first Rainbow for 2015!
This adventure took me to two rivers, a creek , and ultimately Wolford Reservoir. I didn't have much luck at either river or the creek but, the recently thawed out reservoir was my spot! I set out with my trout/river fishing pole and one of my poles set up for walleye. I started by throwing out my walleye lure just to get out there and see what happens and I get a bite! Big lure must mean big fish right? Well to my surprise it's my first Bow for the year. This little guy had to be feisty going after my 4 1/2" Smithwick Rouge!

My First “Walleye Hunt”
Recently I heard Chatfield Reservoir, which happens to be near my house, is great fishing during the Walleye spawn. So, I decided it's time to broaden my horizons and improve my experience by going after a new species.
I got a new pole, a ton of new lures and what nots, and did a lot of research on catching these "elusive" fish. Being so excited I decided to call this little excursion a "Walleye Hunt"!
We set out just before the April full moon and fished nightly for about 3 days. Armed with a couple of poles at 10&12# braided & mono line (I was optimistic and hoping to bag a 30"+) , plenty of jig heads, and a handful of Smithwick Rouge and pro rogue lures here's how it went!
Walleye Hunt. Night One:

Took the boat out for the first time this year, just below freezing, and didn't get a single bite. I didn't feel too bad though. Especially after taking to some people on the way home. They only caught 3 between 4 people the whole night and only one was a walleye.

I evened the score!! Warmer than the previous night, but much more windy. I got a couple bites and I brought in my First Walleye!! I must say, I'm pretty proud of myself. 😀 16" Nothing to brag about and not keep-able but, great for me and he was nice and filled-out! My hubby's buddy also got his First Walleye! He also lost an rap x-d that I somehow managed to pull in! Lol #ICanCatchAnything After moving over to a new spot I immediately got a bite and reeled in my 2nd guy! I named this one though. One Eye Wally!! He was my favorite! About the same size as the first but, he only had One Eye!! And as I was pulling him in there was another one following! The bite must've still been a little slow cuz we had a couple people ask if we caught anything on the way home.

Happy Easter!
Easter was such a nice day! I expected going out on the reservoir was gonna be really nice. I didn't even have to wear my big jacket & there weren't nearly as many fishermen on the water that night as there were the other nights. Immediately I got a couple bites and lost one after only first few casts. Not too long later though the wind started picking up, making the water pretty choppy. And NOTHING. I stopped getting bites. The wind blowing in my eyes made my eyes water non-stop so we called it quits early tonight. Plus, we still had to work in the morning. We weren't the only ones pulling out early though.
Fishing the Colorado River!!
To properly welcome the first weekend of spring we camped near the Colorado and Blue rivers.I have been feeling a little sicky but, that did not stop me from going, much less fishing!Boy, am I glad it didn’t. We did a lot of exploring for new spots and fished some areas on the Blue where we had been having some luck. Unfortunately, we didn’t see much action on the Blue so we looked for other streams to fish before finally trying out the great Colorado River! We finally found a nice little spot around sundown and fished with nothing but spinning reels (I was using my #Emmrod Pacrod with 6lb line) and lures, as usual. (Hubby, did try a little Fly Fishing earlier in the day with not much luck. I’m still a little intimidated by it to try it. Maybe for my birthday.) Now, I can’t really ever say that I know exactly what I’m doing but, I must have something right because I was able to get a bite on my 2nd lure! And one called “The fish catcher” none the less. Hah! I reeled in a nice lookin’ Brown!
MY FIRST COLORADO RIVER BROWN!!
The last morning we returned to this same spot fished further up the river, working our way down. No action for about 30 min until I casted out a jig (that I put together myself! Picked the head and body…yeah I get pretty proud of myself. lol) as I’m reeling in, stop n go, a feel a BITE! What a ‘beaut! Another brown! This one even bigger and brighter then yesterday! I’m still learning how to handle them well and quickly between bringing them in and getting my moment of glory with them to releasing them back safely. Every time I get out on the water I’m lucky to learn something new. Whether, it’s how to find good fishing spots, picking the right lures, or getting a good pic with a good release.

Valentines Day Fishing!
For Valentine’s Day my hubby took me fishing this year!! I got to pick the place, of course. We haven’t been having any luck at our usual spot not too far from the house so I thought we should try someplace new.
We fished the Blue River!
While it ended up being a day of mostly exploring. We went up and down the river and checked out Green Mountain Reservoir where we spotted plenty of people fishin’ on the ice. We finally did find a spot that seemed perfect to fish! I threw in my line a couple of times with nothing but a lure on it. No bites. So I switched it up and tied on a silver and blue spoon. After a couple of casts, I got a bite! I was so excited but I had to remain focused I didn’t wanna lose this guy. I grab my net and finally get him just close in enough to grab him.
Once I removed the hook and got to admire this guy I thought “Wow! I caught this guy?” He has definitely been the biggest Brown or Trout, for that matter, that I have ever caught fishing Colorado’s rivers.
The hubby did great this Valentine’s Day! Of course, he got a couple of things too. Including a folding, camo, chair cooler! He loved it. It gives him a good place to keep his beer and watch me fish! LOL

I never got around to posting pics from my Wyoming trip in April. Here they are! We had a string of bad luck from breaking several poles, having our camp stove blown away and break, to losing a ton of lures and fish but it was a ton of fun and I brought in that guy I'm showing off.
SPRING IS HERE!!
It’s been a while since I really posted and dedicated myself to tumblr. It doesn’t mean I’ve stopped fishing though! Next week I’ll attempt to catch the Rainbow Trout spawn in WY so wish me luck!
Spring is here and in no time Summer will arrive, as well! My favorite seasons! I’ll try a lot harder this season to keep my posts updated and hopefully show off some studly fish friends of mine! He he he.
The Fourth of July must've been my lucky weekend. Or it could've had something to do with where I fished. lol My hubby and I made a trip out to Wyoming, more specifically, The Miracle Mile. Now, the reason we decided this was THE spot for me to fish is because this 1-2 mile stretch of river that sits in between two dams creates the perfect grounds for large trout especially during the spawning seasons. Now, I know it wasn't the spawn yet, or even close, but it was an opportunity to add to my catch record and practice for the spawn. ;)
Prior to going we did a little research and learned that we would be spending some time finding these guys (when don't you though) so we took a long 4 day trip.
Day 1: was spent driving there, setting up camp, and exploring the river for where we thought could be good spots. We couldn't fish yet because we only bought tags for the two middle days.
Day 2: I finally got my line wet! We fished the spots that looked good to us the day before and nothing. All day this was our luck so we finally gave up for the day and decided to do dinner. While waiting I decided to throw out our poles to this spot that kept getting my attention a couple of feet away from our campsite. Using the same set up we'd used most of the day I threw on a night crawler on my three way rig this time and let it sit in the rod holder. I checked the line a couple of times and nothing. After dinner it started to get dark so I decided to bring in my line. Stuck! Just had been my luck all day ( I lost several lures and weights this day). I finally got my line free and as I was reeling it in I felt some tugs. Turns out I caught a fish! A white sucker to be exact. I was surprised he was able to swim off without missing a beat as I'd figured he was probably so tired from fighting my line and me.
Day 3: We decided to really get at it! Had an early breakfast and we were off. We fished, fished, and fished some more even finding new spots but still NOTHING! At least I got to work on my tan. Hungry and tired we finally retreated back to camp before sunset. Again while fixing dinner I threw out our lines with some bait and let them sit in the our holders near camp. Periodically checking the lines and even recasting a couple of times I finally got another bite! Another white sucker. This was one was bigger but didn't seem as big of a fighter like the first. We repeated this process until it was too dark to see anything and I'm glad we did because shortly after the white sucker I caught a 12' Rainbow! My biggest one yet. This was no where near the "monsters" this river can supply but I was beyond excited! Just as the sun was out of the sky I got one last tug and reeled in an even bigger trout! Man was I excited. An almost 19" brown!! He weighed in at a whopping pound.
Pheew was I glad we made the trip out to the miracle mile! Next trip will be during the brown spawn...crossing my fingers I catch a "monster" then.
So, I am still working on catching my blog up somewhat. Like I mentioned on my SUPER late ice fishing post just because I haven't written about it does not mean I have stopped fishing!
May was a great month for me! Graduation and my birthday! Plus, now I had time again to hit the water as much as possible. As a graduation gift my amazing in-laws fixed up an old camper & it came out great! We visited some of my spots from last year and just like then I had no luck.
Well, next month in June. My hubby's buddy asked to come fishing with us so we let him pick the spot. Now, it wasn't a river or a lake like I have normally fished but a couple of small ponds located in Copper. Luckily I can use bait at this spot.
Under our friend's instruction I learned to make a three way rig and this may have just done the trick.

I FINALLY CAUGHT MY FIRST FISH. A little chunky rainbow trout. Unfortunately, I did not get a picture with him or get to enjoy him as during all my excitement I dropped him out of my hands and he swam off.
The entire day we fished a larger pond and several smaller ones. I ended the day with a total of FOUR CATCHES! What a day! They were all too small to take home for dinner though...guess I'll try trout another day.
I fished all day with different variations of a three way rig (mostly adjusting the length of my sinkers line) while using red worms as bait. I did not use any lures this day.
This is just what I needed to push me to learn more so I can keep catching these guys and hopefully "The Big One" someday!
It’s been a while since I’ve updated or even glanced at my blog. That doesn’t mean I stopped fishing though!
In February I attempted to go ice fishing for the first time. Eager and excited to go I prepared myself by talking to some of my friends about their experiences going. It sounded to me like the worst part was probably breaking through the ice since we didn’t have a gas powered auger or anything fancy like that. We fished local at Cherry Creek Reservoir. Once I stepped out onto the ice I realized either something was not totally right or I was just not as prepared as I thought I was. Well, it was the latter. I either missed this bit of information or everyone decided against telling me one crucial detail. The ice moves, pops, and cracks! My buddy and I didn’t get too far out before we decided we didn’t want to go out any further. Setting up our spot, listening to that ice pop and crack played on my nerves the entire time. I sucked it up and we started to break our hole. We took turns turning the auger and let me tell you that was a work-out! Once we finally broke all the way through, the ice made deeper sounds and I started to get a lot more anxious.
I could see other anglers out there looking cool, calm, and collected while fishing and others breaking through some ice with a shovel. Their lax attitude unfortunately did not make it’s way toward me. We set our lines under the 8”-10” of ice. (Which I now know is safe). As the sun started to get higher the ice kept making loud unnerving pops. I was too worried about the ice breaking than actually focusing on trying to catch fish. Not an hour after we finished our fishing hole I heard the loudest pop and decided I couldn’t be out there anymore or I was going to have a heart-attack!
I felt bad I couldn’t “man up” and deal with the sounds but because of my inexperience I did not know better. After this event I did more research and found that all that noise is just a part of ice fishing and most ice thicker than 4” is safe to walk on.
I feel much more prepared for this winter. I am ready mentally to spend my day out there and hopefully catch a big hungry guy!
Cursed!?
It's been a few weeks since I got a chance to get out on the water and do some fishing between the semester starting and the busy schedule of my fishing buddy. Yesterday, I finally got the anxiously awaited opportunity to get out there! A friend of mine had just bought a smaller v-hull earlier in the summer and took me out his boat to the Cherry Creek Reservoir here in town. With breakfast and coffee in hand we lunched around 7. What I thought was going to be a cold day actually turned out to be beautiful! Apparently, the fish were not to impressed with this day. We fished mainly for Walleye, but I have heard that there is a good opportunity to do some cat fishin' (Yum!) here as well. There were only a handful of other fisherman out on the water and it didn't appear they had much luck either. After going through almost every option we had in our tackle boxes we still had not even gotten one bite and to top it off the trolling motor battery had died...Oops! The local high school was holding practice for their rowing teams as we were slowly rowing back in around noon. Although, I STILL did not get my 1st catch I had a great time and learned a little more that day! My friends have now jokingly told me if there is ever a bout of world hunger and fishing (actually catching fish) is the only source of food left I'm screwed! LOL I have begun to think maybe I am cursed...not really. I know that at some point it will finally all come together for me and these days will have all been lessons.

Today's journey for fish started smoothly. I got out of town on time, had breakfast, and even time to stop and grab a few things before getting out on the water. Today, I decided I was going to try some live bait and bought some night-crawlers...what fish doesn't want a big 'ol juicy worm? Or so I thought. The day started at Evergreen Lake in Colorado about 7,720 feet above sea level. Upon arrival the sun was rising, heating up the lake; producing a layer of fog covering the murky water. I started off the morning at an exposed piece of land that went out toward the middle of the lake as it seemed the water level may have been lower than it usually is. After fishing this spot for about 2 hrs with my worms I decided to make my way down the lake toward the dam hoping my luck would change. I ended up fishing off a dock hoping to get a bite. Another hour and a half later no luck. From here I could see some fry swimming under and around the dock but no presence of their parents. Eventually, I retreated and decided to make my way over to Chatfield State Park which happens to be closer to my home based on all the stories I have heard of good fishing there. As we were leaving the fishery truck was pulling in to restock the lake. I still decided to leave because this lake just did not show me anything to get excited about. I had heard Chatfield had more bass fishing than trout so I again stopped and bought some new lures appropriate for the cause. After driving around the reservoir I found a cove the looked to be good fishing. I pulled out my heavier rod and new lures for the occasion. Once I got down to the water I actually spotted schools of younger trout and decided to fish near them. I finally spotted a big mouth bass hanging out near the edge and cast out past him as my I reeled in my line past him trying to catch his attention I was anticipating my first bite...my lure reeled past him without even so much as a look. :( I made my way over toward the main part of the lake and fished there for a while and still nothing. My partner in crime started feeling the sun get to her so I decided it was time to pack it up after fishing here for about 3 hours. I have started to feel a little discouraged, but I am determined to keep at it since it is probably my inexperience that is producing my poor results. I can only hope to catch that first one soon and I don't think my husband will be able to keep me from the water then as I will definitely be "HOOKED" by then! I still cannot explain where my attraction for the sport has come from and why I am so persistent to become an avid fishermen and have many future catches. Until then I'll be fishing it one day at a time!
