Good news, fellow artists! Nightshade has finally been released by the UChicago team! If you aren't aware of what Nightshade is, it's a tool that helps poison AI datasets so that the model "sees" something different from what an image actually depicts. It's the same team that released Glaze, which helps protect art against style mimicry (aka those finetuned models that try to rip off a specific artist). As they show in their paper, even a hundred poisoned concepts make a huge difference.
(Reminder that glazing your art is more important than nighshading it, as they mention in their tweets above, so when you're uploading your art, try to glaze it at the very least.)

Heads up to not use Duolingo or to cease using it
In December 2023 they laid off a huge percentage of their translation teams, replacing them with ai and having the remaining members review the ai translations to make sure the translations are “acceptable” (Note how they use the world acceptable and not accurate)

Duolingo has been shifting toward AI since last September according to their blog.

The rate of mispronounced words (mostly on/kun substitutions in Japanese) has gone dramatically up in my lessons, and I'm willing to bet this is why.
As a replacement for Duolingo, may I suggest Mango Language? They also have an app so you can learn from your phone. On its own, it can be expensive. Good news is, many library systems in the US have a contract with Mango! This means that if you have a library card, you can sign up and learn languages for free once you input that info into the app.
They do use AI and TTS, per this blog post. However, it looks like they're not using it as a complete substitute for paying humans. More research may be needed to ensure they're not being a hot mess like Duolingo.
