Thailand Travel Advisory October 2017
If you are coming out to Thailand in October 2017 you will coincide with an important cultural moment for the Thai people. A period of mourning for the late, beloved King Bhumibol Adulyadej will be observed from October 1 - 30, 2017. During this time there will be some adjustments to local traffic routes and entertainment, as well as some important customs observed, that we’d like you know about.
The Thai government will hold a royal cremation ceremony from October 25 - 27, 2017 at the Grand Palace in Bangkok. All visitors to Thailand who want to attend the ceremony are advised to wear mourning attire (black, sleeved shirts and long pants or skirts). Travellers visiting other parts of Bangkok or Thailand are also advised to wear discreet or dark colored clothes. You can also wear a black ribbon as a sign of respect and solidarity with the Thai people.
Please note that there will be road closures around Bangkok’s old town, which will be accessible by foot. Public transportation to the area will be available but visitors should expect to walk a longer distance to access major attractions, including the Grand Palace. For more information, you can refer to this blog post on traveling in Thailand during the mourning period.
Your stay in Bangkok will expose you to a once in a lifetime moment for the Thai people. We hope your visit is full of new wonders and a deep sense of appreciation for the country and the people that welcome you to join them during this time.

November is one of the nicest and coolest times of the year if you are considering a visit. Also there is a Thai tradition of Loi Krathong around this time that has been held since the middle of the eleventh to the middle of the twelfth lunar month, which is a great flood season- especially on the full moon night of the twelfth lunar month.
When the moon shines at night, it makes rivers clear. It is very beautiful scenery which is suitable for floating Krathong.The word loy (or loi) means to float, whilst krathong are small rafts or baskets. Traditionally made from banana leaves or the bark of a banana tree, the Krathongs usually contain a candle, incense and lotus flowers.The candle is lit and the #Krathong is placed on the nearest stretch of water. It is believed that the Krathong carries away bad luck and signals a fresh start and many people make wishes as their Krathong gently floats away.
