Hello! Just realizing I never did any sort of introduction here - Iâm Thal, she/her, 22. Things around here can be 18+ at times, so minors please DNI. Iâm a writer, and asks/requests are always open, though whether or not I fill things is up to my own discretion.Â
Currently open to taking requests for Date Everything, any character, though I can't guarantee that I've finished a given route. Unless specified, I'll default to writing a fem-afab player character, though I am willing to write other types of player character.
i LOVE your AU jon, he's adorable. i also can't deny that him becoming an assassin fuels my fire because men who can kill me but wouldn't are my favorite type of man. so, i posit a middle ground:
jon wick's a freeloader at first. it takes him a bit to get on his feet, and he does love hearing gossip, so maybe the hairdresser route like in the scandalabra realization is good for him. he makes a little bit of money, he's your roommate that you adore, and life is quiet.
but we all know that valdivian wouldn't stop at just getting back the dateviators, especially if they're useless now and you just cost them big money with the government.
so one night you wake up to get a glass of water. hazily, you trudge downstairs into the dining room, and your nose wrinkles as you smell something weird. you turn... and there's jon, holding his former self like a weapon, an assailant sprawled out on the ground and bleeding. probably not to death, but certainly down for the count.
jon wick does not have assassin training. he does not have a cool badass side. but what he does have is a deep love for you and a well of pure, unadulterated rage that could only come out of a man from freehold, new jersey.
he likes this quiet life. he wants to just do his job and chill with you and hear gossip. so he's gonna do whatever he has to to keep it that way. maybe... the power of pewter must be honed and learned, but the fire of justice burns bright enough where he can mold it with enough effort.
if nothing else, i hope the concept is interesting
this is SO much fun a concept wait Thank You for bringing this idea to my ask. please. yes. the idea of him living a nice quiet life with you but still having enough New Jersey Rage to kill a man when needed........... phenomenal
Disclaimer: I'm not a professional, but I had an abundance of time to percolate some thoughts during travel, and the candlestick man is compelling. Spoilers ahead, reference to sex and kink.
Tl;Dr: It's more than just some simple projection about dirty little secrets.
At first impressions, the Scandalabra is a perfectly hilarious caricature of an upper crust dandy from the 18th century: pompous, adoring of pageantry and household minutiae, with the cunning strategy of yelling into the next room to ask for potential updates. The very first words he says to the player are "Yes! Yes, it's me!" His every interaction is peppered with the risque, implication, and ribald antics about even the slightest deviation.
With more interaction, more is revealed about this entity: he quizzes you on the particulars of a candelabras construction after being caught in a less-than-dignified moment, and even then refuses to count you as a friend unless you tell him current events in the house, to his satisfaction. When sufficiently convinced, he applauds your dedication to sharing information and willingness to accept a lonely life: he considers the pursuit of scandal to be a way of life, and the sacrifices of interpersonal comfort to be worthy in pursuit of information. He affirms his feelings of esteem by mentioning the dialogue box will confirm this when the conversation ends. Even then, "friend" is still in quotations when he shares his own Date-a-dex.
Even past that, you then have to achieve love with 50 other objects in the house before he is willing to pursue you personally: not only does he insist that you kiss him as the candelabra that he is, rather than the form the Dateviators grants him, he claims it is would be so wrong, but so right.
Now, given that he's entirely posed as a comedy character up until this point, the breaks of the fourth wall are all quite tongue-in-cheek, and plausible to be written off as part of the goofs. After all, to quote the man himself: "Nobody ever takes me seriously! How could you?"
This is where we consider the implications of Maggie's investigation, and the reveal of his identity.
It's easy enough to say that everything he's done here, so far, is all a huge rigging to obscure the fact that he is a knockoff bought off a discount rack. Classic projection defense mechanism from the moment you first meet him where he's posing, peacocking, and tells you directly who he is. Fake it 'til you make it.
In his Scandalabra persona, he is outrageous, audacious, and spends all of his time fixated on the affairs of other objects in the house: moreover, he calls the circumstances as he sees them, with ribbing, succor, and a deep satisfaction for uncovering what's being hidden. His interest in the taboo is present, outspoken, and delighted in: even if there's a statement of shame, the mirth is not in condemnation, so much as the theatrics of pretending to condemn. He holds no sincere scorn in his antics, but stands as a foil toward the behavior of hiding passion and curiosity in the face of the unconventional.
As a firm example of this: Scandalabra/Jon Wick does not hesitate to exclaim his pleasures, his desires, and when you've done something that he finds viscerally appealing. He doesn't shy from mentioning how laundry clings to the player's nethers, how he enjoys watching other people's relations at a distance (heavily implying a voyeurism fetish), and he doesn't fight the truth when he has truly been called on it, especially when approached as an equal with respect. When Jon Wick as a Dateable, he's blunt about his expectations and makes no innuendo or implication about his interests, simply asking "Hey. Wanna fuck?" No frills, no avoidance, a yes or no without reservation in either.
Now for the kicker:
His awareness of the fourth wall, allowing references to the dialogue boxes and narration for his interactions
The self-insert datability of the development team he informs you about
The suggesting that the player face the embodiment of existential dread
Questioning the nature of physics and the afterlife for humans in casual conversations before changing the subject with a giggle
Post-Realization, Jon Wick having a particular power allowing him to discern base metal from finery leads him to assassinate people in the criminal underground within forgery rings, to such success that he eliminated an entire racket and spends his days doing appraisals. The man physically harms people for selling false copies of genuine items, beating them with candlesticks into submission or an early grave.
Given all that we've been shown here, concerning this man's concerns about an unrelenting pursuit of what is true, it's all-but given that it's rooted in the deep existential crisis that burdens Jon from his very genesis: he was created entirely aware of the fact that he's a cheap mass-produced replica of something worthwhile, and dearly seeks to rectify that inherent dissonance by assuming a persona that is exceptional in some way, any way, even if it means he is often pained by his approaching-pathological pursuit of what's real. (Never mind how weird this concept has to be for the candelabra that Jon was modeled after: do they know they have a Temu clone army out there?)
In conclusion: this is a man who has seen past the veil of reality, and it will drive him to homicide in pursuit of determining what Is and Is Not in order to make sense of his own existence itself.
PS:
It's not all bad for Jon: you chose him from the bargain bin, you put up with all of his tests, quizzes, challenges, and lies... And you still chose him, one way or another, for whoever he is. And that love, at least, is something he has irrefutable proof of being real.
Going into the game I never thought I'd be saying this when coming out of it but like...Date Everything shouldâve let us be freakier. Why is the candelabra the only object we can actually kiss. Let me kiss the desk. Let me kiss the time capsule. Let me smooch the mirror. Let me bring the whole box of board games out from the attic and put them in the bed to cuddle with at night. Just let me be freaky???????
wrote a follow-up to my first eddie/player/volt fic (here)
As you left the Breaker Box, you were wishing that someoneâpreferably not the well-meaning yet clueless architect behind your current predicamentâwould go back and warn you, Final Destination style, that performing tonight was a terrible idea and that you definitely shouldnât have agreed to Johnnyâs proposal. Was your wish likely to be granted? No, but you were already making it to yourself as you let Dorian whisk you out the door of the Breaker Box, and close the door behind you.
You could feel electric eyes on you, the sensation sending a fission of sparks traipsing down your spine, as Dorianâs arm wrapped politely around your shoulders to steer you through the door. Him. It was so weird trying to figure out what was and was not intersecting with your closet while you were in the club.
Overworked grad student Hoove....the easy and relaxed suaveness has started to slip, and there's slight bags under his eyes, but he still manages to look put together.
It's just that he's teetering on the edge of overburdened again, but this time you don't have to work through his defenses to help him take a load off.
i find it so funny that dorian is the first character you're asked - by skylar - to awaken despite the fact that her arrival to your house just damaged him, and somehow he genuinely could not care less about it.
The way I am thinking the most devious thoughts about Hoove and his post-Realization ending....which I would fuel by looking at ao3, but I already know there's almost nothing there for him đ

Tysm for sticking with me! I'll probably make some more of these in the future, but not as frequently.

I have a slight issue with the whole "Oh Eddie and Volt hate me because I respected Eddie's boundaries" thing
(OK I feel like I have to say absolutely respect people's boundaries irl. we are talking about fictional characters here)
The main thing is, you can't form a relationship of any kind with someone if you dont talk to them.
Eddie tells you to go away or leave him alone and you do that. What relationship could you possibly form from that?
Now I haven't played or watched through the hate route (because I feel bad about it) but I know that it involves not speaking to or helping Eddie when given the chance.
Eddie and Volts route is about accepting outside help.
On Eddie's part yes, but I think Volt is the one who really needs to learn to accept that help more so then Eddie.
When it comes to Eddie, Volt is protective. When you tell Volt that you're helping Eddie he reacts negatively. The reason for this, at least in my opinion, is because he wants to be the only one Eddie needs.
He was created to help Eddie and if he can't do that without help then what is the point of him being there? Why would he exsist at all?
Eddie is Volts top priority, not being able to help him the way the player could probably hurt. But he came to terms with it and allowed it to happen.
The Player sticking around Eddie and being insistent on helping Eddie proves to Volt that yes, they also really care about Eddie. It shows Volt that he can trust The Player with Eddie's wellbeing.
If The Player dosenât stick around, dosent go out of their way to help Eddie, Volt would have no reason to trust them.
idk just my take on the hate ending for them from the small bits I have seen.
Hi! Iâm not sure if youâve already answered this, or if itâs even stated anywhere in game, but I was wondering if the objectsâ consciousness is different in different places. I donât know if that made any sense.
Say, for example, you went to a friendâs house and used the dateviators (I know in canon you canât leave the house with them, but hypothetically), would the Dorians there know you from your house? Or would they have no idea who you are?
Feel free to ignore this if you want! I was just curious on what your thoughts were about this since itâs a little confusing for me to wrap my head around.
This is an excellent question. [I have been on a bit of a hiatus, but I have so many more lore thoughts I want to dig into. This touches upon some of them, so thank you for asking! Also, I may explain things you already know or understand, so some of this may be arduous for you to read through, if you want to skip through the first few paragraphs, the green is where I actually answer your formal question. The rest is context.]
From the explanations in-game that I have encountered, my understanding is that (to paraphrase Skylar) each object is aware of each of their iterations. Dorian is a good example of this; having in-game dialogue that directly references his other forms-- it has been some time since I've played the game, but I believe Back Dorian mentions some of the other Dorians, and Tiny Dorian also mentioning that he's not as "tall" as the others. Able is another good example, though he seems to have less of a separation of self that Dorian has-- he doesn't think/refer to himself as dining Able or coffee Able, he is just Able. And each place you interact with him he seems to carry some knowledge of everything that happens around the house, each version of him sharing a single consciousness.
Getting a bit more into the technical areas of the lore, each object/concept (or as I call them, vibrofilus) has a non-physical wavelength at which they operate, and each is distinct from other objects/concepts. Or, every door has the "Dorian" wavelength, but every dishwasher has a "Dishy" wavelength, even if dishwashers technically have doors. This is because the concept of a door is unique to that of a dishwasher/dishwasher door.
As stated before, Skylar does mention that each of these unique wavelengths is aware of each of their physical manifestations... so technically, yes, each Dorian is aware of every Dorian that exists anywhere in the universe. However, there are some contradictions that arise with this that I have encountered in-game. One in particular being with Arma (the alarm) [Quick warning for route spoilers from here on for potentially multiple characters]. Arma's route tackles her PTSD and coping mechanisms from watching a house across the street burn down. But, if this is in suburban USA, in what seems to be a very cookie-cutter style neighborhood (wherein each house is virtually identical to the others in the development), would it not be the case that each house is up to code on fire protections-- that is, that each has fire alarms installed? Perhaps one could argue that that is up to the home owner, not the builders, sellers, etc. and I would answer that usually fire/carbon monoxide are one of the first things installed in a home, even if the homeowner must do it upon moving in.
Another example is with Rebel. Getting through their route, Rebel describes wanting to reach out because they don't know where other rubber ducks are... and this presents a problem. Either there are millions of distinct concepts of what a rubber duck is (with a physical object tied to them), or this is a direct violation of their own lore given that part of Rebel's story is about them not feeling 'different' enough from their factory produced counterparts. In order for Rebel to not know where the other versions of themselves are, this is the only explanation... which I suppose in a fictional world it is technically possible to have millions of distinct concepts of what a rubber duck is, with a corresponding object.
Bobby Pinn has similar issues, though it is slightly different. Bobby describes having a family-- of which we see a photo of along their route. Betty also mentions that she knew Bobby when they were younger, though to what extent objects age is another matter entirely. This would indicate that Bobby Pinn is a distinct enough kind of pin, perhaps the concept of a bobby pin as a lockpicking/mischief tool instead of an accessory or beautification item, but that would indicate there is some degree of autonomy that has, as far as I know, not come up in other object's routes.
[I unlock my tome of knowledge, quill dancing between my fingers and a serious expression on my face]
From what the fundamental lore states, to answer your question; yes, each iteration of each dateable would share memories, knowledge-- single gestalt consciousness. When you Realize Dorian, for example, it's implied that because every Dorian shares one consciousness, you don't Realize him multiple times, just the once-- and once you do, every door becomes just a door. If you were to use the dateviators in another place, you'd likely just find the dateables in different "costumes" as their appearance varies with their physical objects. This does not appear to have any changes on their personalities.
There are, of course, some exceptions to this. Rebel and Bobby, as stated above, have canoncially indicated they are unique somehow to other types of objects like them. We must assume, then, that they are separate wavelengths from rubber ducks and bobby pins, respectively. Another one, which may make the fandom more or less happy, is Eddie and Volt-- in particular, Volt. [These are my own personal thoughts], however I believe that Volt is unique to the homeowner's house because he exists due to a faulty wire in the breaker box. Not every house is going to have a faulty wire, and it's possible that with similar malfunctions across the span of every breaker box that Volt would come to fruition, but we can at the very least assume Volt is something of a rarity in how often his wavelength is separated from Eddie's. It is entirely possible that Volt's consciousness has only separated and manifests in the homeowner's house.
Then you have the Hanks. The Hanks, which seemingly would exist in complete disregard to the established lore and methodology of existence for vibrofilus/dateables, but there they are. We understand from them that potentially every. Single. Hanger. Has it's own unique wavelength. That is all I will say as I do want to make a more in-depth writing about the Hanks and what they imply.
[It can be stated succinctly that Loris and the Hanks do not get along.]
[I apologize if there are any errors in my writing, and I hope I have dispelled some of your confusion or given you more to think about. I will also provide my usual disclaimer that in any fan works, creative liberties can of course be taken, and any lore can be disregarded for personal desires.]
