Thalia, ten years ago,was a soft edge girl with smiling lips and a void in her chest. Today, the void remains but her edges are no longer soft and she keeps smiles like secrets, of which she has many.

Thaliaâs Past;Â
The fate one is handed upon birth is very rarely the one they dream of as a child growing up. More often than not, those with less fortunate realities dream up futures full of wealth and prosperity, lives of ease. They dream of big houses and tight-knit families who buy cars for their children the second they turn sixteen. They dream of the kind of family where daddy can come home on a random Tuesday night with a diamond necklace for his wife simply because it is Tuesday and he loves his wife. Children with nothing dream of lives where they donât even have to ask for the things that they want because they already have them. Thalia Blackwood was never either of these types of children. Instead of desiring money and fame and power, Thaliaâs desires were much more emotional, painful. She wanted to never have to be alone.Â
Thalia Blackwood came into the world a measly eighteen years ago, bright blue eyes giving away her fragility and newness to the world to anyone that could look at her. Reagan and Emmett Blackwood were never really made to be parents, they didnât have the emotional capacity or the means, but nevertheless, Reaganâs parents wouldnât stop asking and one day it happened by accident, and they simply let it continue on until Thalia was a reality and no longer just a seemingly far-off notion. Her mother and father were both professors at  Barton Hollow University, her mother, a Chemistry professor, and her father, one for high levels of math Thalia would never be able to understand. Unfortunately, for the girl who wanted to be loved and never left truly alone, her parents were stuck in the crevices of their own minds and their problem sets and the concrete parts of their lives, not to be bothered with the emotional tether they had created by creating a life.Â
Nevertheless, the lonely little girl would spend afternoon after afternoon on the Barton Hollow University campus, eating snacks and running around by herself in the campus quad. Many of the students came to recognize her tiny face and the bubbly laugh that would tumble out of her mouth every time she fell down and scraped her knees. One time, she was running around and she stumbled upon the football team whilst they were in the middle of practice. At first, Thalia was fascinated by the sport being played by the boys. They were all knocking each other over and running at each other with these huge pads on that made their shoulders look so much bigger than they already were and the whole situation just made the little girl bring her hand up to cover her mouth as a chuckle escaped her rosy lips. But, the football team wasnât why Thalia stuck around that day, no; she was kept their by the girls in short skirts and tight shorts who were dancing around and cheering. Thalia couldnât help her staring in wonder at all of the beautiful girls, but not because they were beautiful. She stared because of their unity, their comradeship, their absolute sense of self. Even as a small child that unavoidable sense of loneliness and sadness seeped into Thaliaâs mind and poisoned her heart. She watched the girls throughout the duration of their practice and saw them disperse in the direction of their families or who knows what, Thalia sure as hell had no notion of the kinds of things girls like them did when Thalia wasnât observing. Yet still, as time went on, little Thalia Blackwood continued to watch the furies during their practices day after day, letting the dream of becoming one of them slowly seep into every part of her mind until there was nothing else she desired more. She legitimately grew up on the dream of being one of the furies. A girl on that team had over a dozen other sisters, a dozen other girls that would never leave her side if she didnât want them to. Eventually Thalia was able to recognize the cheerleaders outside of their practice clothes and in their everyday clothes, the girls walking arm in arm; she so enthralled by them that when she would see the furies walking between classes her own ears would perk up and try to overhear their conversation. She wouldâve done anything to be a part of a group of people so closely knit they might as well have al been blood.Â
Unfortunately for Thalia, the loneliness never did seem to subside. If anything, it got worse, made more potent by the fact that she suddenly found herself surrounded by other people of her age who still ignored her. It was as though the young Blackwood was invisible at first. She would go up to kids at the drawing table and start doodling in crayon alongside them, desperately trying to get them to notice her drawing. She would poke at their hand to start, then eventually she started stealing their crayons out from their hands. They were being mean and ignoring me she would tell her teacher when she asked why she had made her classmate cry, but a darker message started to take hold in Thaliaâs mind when day after day the kids would ignore her drawings. She wasnât good enough or important enough to be paid attention to, so she stopped trying. Time went on and drawings turned into words and words turned into sentences until suddenly she was in middle school writing her first real essay, still alone. Itâs not as though her parents were of any real help either; she loved them because they had been there her whole life and put a roof, if a sometimes leaky one, over her head. Literally though, Thalia was completely on her own other than her emotionally unavailable parents, people to whom Thalia would never be able to connect to. Sometimes she was surprised they connected to each other in the first place. And so, day by day, Thaliaâs fascination with the furies grew from a imaginary plaything to a near obsession, something for her to think about long into the night and daydream about in boring class period. What would her life have been like if she had been born among them? Would she still be so alone? The answer, at least in Thaliaâs make-believe world, was no. She wouldâve had friends, people to rely on. She would spend her friday nights at the movies or in the park with her friends, no her sisters, and sheâd never have to cry herself to sleep with only a hand of her own to hug her for comfort. She wouldnât have had to be so lonely if she ahd just been handed a different life, but she hadnât and that was something she had to deal with.
Thalia Blackwood somehow made her way through middle school and into high school with her average grades, still completely alone. That is, until she tried out for the high schoolâs cheerleading team. Now donât get ahead of yourself, she didnât make the team. She didnât get everything she ever wanted at that tryout, but she did gain a friend. Feisty-eyed and honey-tounged, the blonde Thalia found herself sitting next to impressed her. Her hair had been pulled back out of her face intricately, allowing Thalia a good look at her striking features, despite their slightly sickly pallor. The girl was beautiful in a different sort of way, like one might glance over her at first, then turn their face back once they realized they had glanced at something full of beauty. Sheâd given Thalia a sly smile that had somehow told Thalia from the very beginning Anastasia was better than her, destined for bigger things; but Thalia smiled back anyways and stuck her hand out awkwardly, trying to make a gesture of kindness since the blonde had obviously come to the try-out alone as Thalia had. Anastasia had taken it lightly and that was it. Neither of them made the team but that didnât stop them from becoming friends, and Thalia wouldâve most likely taken anyone at that point in her life. Sheâd been alone for much too long and it was time for her to have someone she could rely on other than herself. And so, Thalia threw herself into her friendship with Anastasia, though that pesky fascination with the furies never did leave her mind. She and Anastasia saw something in the other that Thalia hadnât seen anywhere else. A need for something more, something completely other to the both of them. Thalia needed to be a part of a group, part of something, anything, so that she wouldnât be alone, and Anastasia was always meant to do something bigger than herself. She was just that kind of person. And when she found it, who was Thalia to keep her from it?
Thalia had seen it coming from a mile away, Anastasiaâs leaving that is. She had stopped coming over everyday after school and had come only a few days a week, then one day a week, then once every two weeks, until suddenly it had been three weeks and Thalia had only seen Anastasia in the senior English class they had together. Sheâd called the blonde a couple of times, but she didnât want to seem clingy or needy, even though she most certainly was just that. Thalia needed her best friend back, especially when she found out that Barton Hollow University couldnât give her enough financial aid despite her parents being professors there, so she wouldnât be able to attend the only school she wouldâve even had the chance to attend. She would have to work on her own for at least a year, if not longer, if she ever wanted to be able to go to college. But, then a light shone through the clouds and Anastasia called her one day after school and asked if she could come over; they could make some tea â Anastasia knew Thalia well enough to know she preferred tea over coffee any day â and catch up since itâd been so long. But the words that Thalia had been preparing to hear for weeks hit her harder than she even would have imagined. Anastasia had found her something bigger, and she had to leave Thalia behind in order to become a part of it. The freshly legal Blackwood took it in stride, forcing a tight smile over her lips as she hugged her one and only friend goodbye. They didnât even get to the tea.
Then Thalia was alone in the world again. She couldnât bear to go to her last two weeks of her senior year, instead calling in and saying one of the fae had played a mean trick and given her some disease she could only hope would wear off with time. But the crushing loneliness swept right back into her heart, blinding her to the simple happinesses in life and forcing Thalia into a deep, desperate depression. Her desire to be one of the furies snapped back to the forefront of her mind, body, and soul. Soon becoming a fury was all she could think about. She had heard whispering around town about the Voodoo King, about how he could make anything happen for the right price. So, in her desperate desire to be a part of something, anything, Thalia ran to this strange man who promised her everything she asked for, though never more. She begged, pleaded with him to make her a part of something, to make her one of the furies. She couldnât, wouldnât be able to go through another four years completely alone, without her single best friend to at least hold her hand through it all and let her know that she wasnât alone in the world. She needed to be a part of a group and furies was the group she picked. All she had to give in return for the life she begged for was give up her pure soul⌠such a low price for such a huge prize, and Thalia wouldâve paid anything.
And so, Thalia Blackwood of the Blackwood estate was born, let loose into a world even darker than the one she left behind.Â
Currently in Barton Hollow;
Thalia Blackwood, Professor Blackwoodâs daughter, was no more. That night she went to Alaster, she paid the price and was sent home to her professor parents, assured she would wake to everything she asked for. And sure enough, she did. Sleepy eyes opened, rubbed awake by her scarred cookâs hands, to a fluffy white down comforter, cool on her face. Her bed, instead of the tiny twin sheâd had before, was now something much larger, full or queen she couldnât quite tell. The dark blue walls were decorated with posters of bands she liked and places sheâd only ever dreamed of. Her new room was filled to the brim with different books, cooking and novels alike. On her desk â she had a desk! â was a shiny macbook computer and class books and notebooks were messily strewn across it. Sitting up, she could see clothes thrown lazily across her floor and the end of her bed, which incidently was incredibly comfortable and she couldâve stayed there for the rest of her life if it hadnât been for a servant who knocked on her door and announced that breakfast was ready if Ms. Blackwood was hungry. Thalia Blackwoodâs mind was a whirlwind of thoughts that she couldnât fit together. All sheâd asked for was to be a member of the furies exclusive group, not for money. Had Alaster Whyte actually given her more than she asked for? She scrambled out of bed and was suddenly bombarded with images of a past that she didnât recognize, but she couldnât place any of the images in her mind and there were so many people that she didnât recognize that she just dismissed the spell and made her way to the kitchen, somehow knowing exactly where she was going. Upon her entry to the high-class and very modern looking kitchen though, Thaliaâs mind pieced together who the man and woman in her dizzy spell had been. They werenât strangers. In fact, they were far from strange; they were her parents.
Turns out Thalia had asked Alaster the wrong question and he had used it to his advantage to cause her grief; instead of simply making her a part of the furies group, he changed her whole life, everything she knew, so that her mother and her motherâs mother were furies, effectively making Thalia herself a fury. Except, instead of professors for parents, she had hot shot lawyers who worked in New Orleans most weeks. It had been lucky chance that Thalia ran into them on that morning since apparently they were as absent as her true parents might as well have been. Instead Thaliaâs mind was bombarded with imaged of nannies teaching her how to talk, how to walk, spoon-feeding her until she could feed herself. Turns out her new parents were the kind of parents who had a kid because thatâs the kind of thing youâre supposed to do when you get married, but they were never meant to be parents. Thalia still grew up just as alone as she had as a human. Sure she was technically one of the furies, but she was still more isolated than the rest of them; she was a part of the group but on the outskirts.
Unfortunately, Thalia remembers everything in her previous past as well as her new past. It pains her  more than she can say to see Anastasia on the sidewalk and have her not even recognize her. At least before when she tried to avoid Thalia she knew that Thalia existed. Now with her new parentsâ money she can afford to go to Barton Hollow University where she has to see Anastasia around campus as well as on the streets. Thalia has thought once or twice about reaching out to her, but she knows that wouldnât be a good idea. Thalia may not be fully accepted by the other cheerleaders, but the rest of the school still fears Thalia simply because of her affiliation to them. When she first got to BHU though, she got placed in her fathers Intro to Algebra class which was part of her core curriculum, and it was everything she could do to not cry when she asked if she could switch into another class because she knew her dad didnât know he was her dad anymore. The memories of Thaliaâs past life hurt more than being alone ever did.Â
Her Quirks;Â
For as long as Thalia can remember back, sheâs identified as a firm agnostic. Maybe God exists, maybe he doesnât. She doesnât want to waste her time thinking about it.
When Thaila was seven, she fell off of a set of trashcans she had lined up, desperately trying to learn how to be a flyer and balance. She ended up breaking her arm and now she has quite a noticeable scar on her elbow.
Because Thalia wasnât exactly part of a group while she was going through high school, she wasnât ever introduced to the drug and alcohol scene. Supposedly her new self quite enjoys a good party and has even tagged along on a few of Bellaâs deals, but she canât ever see herself doing such a thing. Drugs and alcohol are addictive and Thalia doesnât want to ruin the life she has given up so much to have by darkening it with those substances. The girls sometimes call her a baby when she resistsÂ
She really likes to go swimming at night in the lakes. She goes deep into the woods, braving the possible dark and devious things to skinny dip in the secluded ponds. She knows some of the nymphs and maybe a faerie or two have seen her, but she canât be bothered. Thereâs something ethereal and mind-boggling about gazing up at the stars and embracing nature.
She loves to wear big, round sunglasses. You know, the kind that scream diva, even though Thalia is anything but that. When she was growing up, sheâd put them on and walk around with the demeanour of all the furies she saw mulling about campus and the town. She always wanted to be something she would never be.
As much as Thalia loves nature and being outdoors, sheâs anxious and a bit flighty, always wanting to be entertained but also never quite satisfied. Thatâs probably where her love for cities comes into play. Thereâs always something for her to be doing in cities, not that she doesnât love a good escape into the woods to breathe.Â
She believes in the power of salt water: sweating, crying, or visiting the ocean.
She taught herself how to play the guitar one of the many summers she spent alone in her old house. Sheâs not sure how, but in her new life there was a guitar laying out by her bed. She just took it as it came, embracing the little bit of her old life that found its way into the new one.
She really doesnât like being alone in public. Thatâs a major part of the reason she wanted to be a part of the furies so badly, so that sheâd never have to go somewhere on her own if she didnât have to. On her own not around anyone else though, sheâs completely at peace. Itâs the standing in line at the Mystic or going into town without anyone by her side that stresses her out.
She loves to spend time in the kitchen and prepare meals for people. She knows itâs not exactly typical fury behavior to do things for other people, but she does it mostly for herself anyways so she uses that as her justification. Sheâs aware most furies grow up take the big, powerful, hotshot jobs, but all she really wants to do is work at a restaurant for awhile, maybe one day open her own. Itâs the one non-fury quality that she canât shake and refuses to try anymore.Â
Thalia loves to wear oversized sweaters. She picked her first one up in ninth grade and it was so warm and it felt like someone was hugging her and she just got attached to them.Â
The reason she moved into the dorms, as opposed to one of the high-end apartments her new parents offered to buy for her, was mostly that sheâs not sure how she feels about her new family, what with their money and higher-than-thou attitudes. Sheâs always been used to a strictly middle class lifestyle and she feels so isolated in the Snow Estates neighborhood. She figures if she lives with the girls, maybe theyâll start to accept her.Â
Thalia doesnât tend to drink that much coffee, instead preferring to drink teas. She loves the typical favorite, earl grey. She likes her tea either light and sweet, lots and lots of sugar, or with absolutely nothing in it at all other than the tea leaves themselves. Sheâll drink loose leaf or bagged tea, she even bought a strainer so that she could use her loose-leaf teas. She bought one on accident once, but sheâs glad she did because sheâs found that many of the best teas donât come pre-bagged.
The young girl often wishes she could keep a garden. With her previous family, they didnât have the money or the space, and when she got her new life, her parents wouldnât hear of it, despite their huge backyard. If anyone was going to grow fruits and vegetables, it could be the servants. She could help out with the flowers if she really wanted to get all up in the plants, but she had to wear gloves and she couldnât get any dirt on herself. Now, in the dorms, thereâs no way in hell sheâd ever have enough space to grow her own garden. Â
Thalia loves to have her nails painted. Theyâre more often than not some shade of blue, pastel or dark or otherwise, but on occasion youâll see them a deep, almost blood-red color. The days in which her nails are painted this red color are most often the days she is feeling the most confident, the most sure of herself.Â
Thaliaâs Connections;Â
Alaster Whyte:
Alaster Whyte is the best and worst thing that ever happened to Thalia Blackwood. He gave her everything she asked for, and took away everything she never knew she would miss. He took away her life as she knew it and gave her a lifesyle she never could of even dreamed of. Her new parents gave her the car sheâs always envied, a classic tan Jeep Wrangler which she drives with the top off, the huge bedroom sheâd never thought about, and the ability to pay for the college she would have never been able to afford before. He gave her all of the and he made her a fury for the small price of her innocent soul, but he didnât give her friendship. He didnât give her the sense of self or the group of friends she had so desperately desired. She had asked him to turn her into a fury, but that had been the wrong question to ask it seemed. Sometimes Thalia sees him in the street or outside of the Shallow Waters Apartments, but she never has the heart to call out to him. Even if he is the only person in the entire world that knows the current Thalia Blackwood wasnât always a reality, he would never indulge her childish whims. She got what she asked for, it wasnât his fault she asked all the wrong things.
Anastasia Cohle:
During her high school years Thalia can remember one feisty blonde who somehow became her best friend. It happened sort of by accident, sitting next to each other in freshman English on the first day, and sort by necessity. The two girls from the get-go could feel the longing in the other for something⌠else. Something more, or better, just something. After all, this couldnât be all that life was, right? Thalia constantly wanted to be something she wasnât, watching the Furies as they walked through town and commanded everyoneâs attentions in the hallways and Anastasia always struggled with something inside of her mind, body, and soul that she could never place. Thalia never asked what internal battle Anastasia was fighting, just thankful to have someone else in her life who struggled with who she was as much as Thalia did. But then, one day, the Human Movement started gaining momentum in Barton Hollow and Thalia started to see less and less of Anastasia outside of school until one day her only friend sat her down and told her that she had found something she needed to be a part of, and that was the last time they spoke. Thalia has seen her across the street a few times since then, but the new Thalia Blackwood was never friends with Anastasia Cohle so maybe it doesnât even matter anymore. Unfortunately, the memories of her one true friendship still linger in her mind, even if they donât for the bright-eyed blonde.
Bella du Pont:
Thalia has been in complete awe of Bella du Pont from the moment she laid her haxel eyes on her the day of cheerleading tryouts her freshman year. Bella was a junior at Truman Capote High School at the time and already commanding the cheerleading team with her iron fists. Word around the halls was that even as a freshman she had scared the senior captain into doing the choreography the youngest du Pont wanted. Ever since then, despite Thaliaâs lack of desire for power herself, she canât help but have a kind of worshipping attitude towards the older brunette. Bella had laughed at her when she tried to join the cheerleading team back then, the foolish human, and had scared Thalia against ever trying out for the team again. To this day Thalia remains horribly afraid of the power hungry brunette, but now sheâs on the cheer team with her at Barton Hollow University. Thaliaâs a part of the pack now⌠or is she?
The BHU Cheerleading Team:
Thalia Blackwood, what with her rather short height and slim stature, was born to be a flyer on the team. She was meant to go up beside Layla in the pyramid, supporting Bella and yet still on top of the rest of the team. But the furies can almost feel the wrongness of her being on the team, as though Thalia is somehow other. So theyâve instead made a front spotter out of her, a position thatâs barely relevant, if relevant at all, especially with Thalia filling itâs spot. A spotter is meant to be someone that can catch someone else if something goes wrong in the stunt, but Thalia could never catch anyone. Coming in at a mere 118 lbs, she will never be able to catch anyone. But Thalia isnât a true member of the pack, so they will continue to put her in the front spot position. Sheâs of their blood, but sheâs not in the family; who knows if she ever will be.Â
Her face claim is Maia Mitchell.
