I saw a video of a scientist talking about the origins of music, and one line really caught my attention: "We are the dancing apes." And that really spoke to me. And in my Instagram feed I've been getting lots of videos of dancers and musicians, and I can't help but agree. There's this dude that walks around with a whole setup to make beats, and he asks random people on the street if they want to make a song with him. And he makes a beat instantly, and the people singing and rapping sound amazing, and these aren't singers they're just random people. And I see videos of street musicians doing their thing, and I can't help but agree with the scientist. A lot of people say humans are boring, that there's nothing unique about us like on other animals, only our intelligence, but I disagree. Did you know we're the only animals that understand music? Some animals understand rythmn, others understand dance, others understand melody and tone but not a single animal understands music like we do. If we didn't exist, another species would arise with our same level of intelligence and technological prowess, our intelligence doesn't make us unique, it makes us lucky. But our understanding of music is what is unique about us. Every person can create and understand music, it makes us feel raw emotion like no other animal. It's encoded into our genes. We are the dancing apes.
