no, i personally think most people who claim to feel it, do feel empathy, and because of the fact that empathy is sucked off as the highest form of righteous goodness and purity, they never really work on themselves. then once they come accross someone who's experiences or even face they can't relate to perfectly they basically do the simpsons princible meme, assuming that because they have the purest gift of sharing emotions to relatable/imaginable experiences that they cannot be in the wrong, that the outsider, the other, is inherently flawed and therefore unworthy of empathy so they must be dangerous and deserving of scorn, patronization, displacement or whatever other animalistic toddler socializing skill level type reaction they, the pure righteous devout empaths, feel.

i think that many people never learn cognitive sympathy, or social comprehension. it's below them. they are pure. BUT i also think people tend to misconstrue their emotional reactions as not just being justified but in other cases as being empathy, for example people in a majority category reading between the lines where there aren't any even if they themselves are a minority in other aspects of their identity, or even the same kind of minority as you. people telling you to calm down or claiming you're angry or vindictive when you're neutral, or claiming you're aggressive when you're just expressing a normal amount of frustration in a reasonably healthy manner when they don't for other (types of) people expressing the same things in the same way.

i dunno i'm just talking out of my ass here. but that's what i think.

it feels like empaths are fake but i'm assuming that's just cuz empathy does not = kindness or wisdom, which is why so many empaths are also assholes who don't understand you/us
