Hello there, everyone!

You can call me Writer Person. I'm an author trying to finish my debut novel while working through college. Now that I'm getting closer to completion I want to start talking about it, so I've come back to this blog. I'm here to talk about my works, writing in general, and how the writing experience feels to me.

I wrote and translated The Adapted (originally L'Adapté in French), which traces the story of an apathetic teenager navigating his fragmented humanity in a place filled with corruption and elitism, but also friendship and trust. It's a psychological and philosophical webnovel that explores trauma, revenge, redemption, angst, loneliness, friendship, and the fragmentation of the self in the present era and near future. I write for free and for fun, but I may also take paid comms from anyone who wants to support my work. My favourite genres involve tragic, dramatic, psychological stories with intellectual and philosophical undertones, and I love depicting cynical, morally-gray, and fragmented *deep* characters. Angsty writing involving depictions of guilt, trauma, depression, and moral conflict is my thing. That's what I write the most about, and if you appreciate that kind of stuff, you're in the right place.

I also compose music in my free time, though I haven't been doing much of it due to my studies.

Though French is my main language, I can very confidently and comfortably write in English, not just for (web)novels, but also artistic and philosophical essays. I also have some experience in screenwriting because of having been involved in the writing of a game (which never saw the light of day, unfortunately).

I write original fiction and original characters. I don't typically write fanfictions, but I don't mind commissioning them. I do NOT write smut/erotica.

Ask and tag game friendly. I'm looking forward to building a community of readers, writers, and fic-enjoyers here (tho been struggling with finding an audience for my writing as of late). Trivia:

I love the rain/thunder, and my favourite season is Fall/Autumn.

I enjoy kombucha, tea, and coffee.

I like talking philosophy, psychology, and any other academic interests.

Huge narrative gaming and anime fan.

Favourite authors if I have to pick any: Dostoyevsky, Camus, Orwell, Dazai, and Shelley.

I like to write tragic characters and situations, but then balance it with hope to cope with the grief it makes me feel.

i saw a tumblr post a while ago that implied that the purpose of book reviews is to help the author get better at their craft by evaluating the book and pointing out its strengths and weaknesses, and i disagree with that so strongly. a book review is not for the author of the book you’re writing about. it’s for potential readers, and readers who want to see someone else’s thoughts on the book. and on a more personal level, it’s for you, the reviewer, to bring your own analysis and your unique perspective to the review. a book review is about the book you’re reviewing, obviously, but it’s also about you, and what that book meant to you, and why it affected you the way it did. a book review can and should discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the book, but not for the purpose of instructing the writer how to improve their craft. that’s not your job. the author of the book may read your review, but if you have the idea that you’re writing for them, that you’re their editor or pr manager, then you misunderstand the purpose of a book review, and your review will suffer for it.

Santos emits the sigh of a man who considers himself a reasonable matchmaker being denied a reasonable opportunity. "You're always 'alright', that's the problem! You need to get out more, meet people, do something on a weekend that isn't—" He gestures at Reed as a whole. "Whatever it is you actually do." Reed huffs once through his nose, quiet enough that Santos doesn't catch it—the small private joke of it sitting in his chest before it fades back into the usual flatness.

sky:

Ellias sprawls on the futon in boxers and a faded hoodie, tugging absently at the little silver hoop in his ear. The sketchbook is open on his knees. Charcoal smudges his fingertips. He's trying to draw the view from his window—fire escape, brick wall, a squirrel frozen mid-leap between railings, a slice of grey Toronto sky—but mostly he's counting how many times the neighbour's Bollywood playlist will loop before someone finally loses their mind and starts pounding on walls.

polite nice:

"You knocked on my door at midnight with burnt cookies," Reed deadpans. "The rest of them are fine. Technically." Reed doesn’t answer. The kettle starts to hiss. "You don't have to be nice about it," Ellias says. "I know they're not good. I just needed something to do with my hands."

roar sound:

The plastic crinkles loud in the quiet apartment. That's what Ellias fixates on—not the body or the blood, but the sound. Cheap plastic rustling and crackling. The mundane sound of garbage bags that he's heard a thousand times before, except now there's a dead man inside one and his brain latches onto it, holding on tight, because if he lets go, he's going to think about what his hands are actually doing right now.

what is your writing fuel? do you consume anything (food or otherwise) that automatically puts you in the headspace to create? I'm curious.

mine is rain sounds, gummy sharks, and a half gallon of water i put off brand kool-aid in.

I like making up myself a fun drink while writing. Sometimes it's just Starbucks, but I like making my own drinks most of the time. An iced matcha/chai latte is amazing no matter the time of year. I tend not to eat while writing. Probably because I just find it annoying trying to eat and type at the same time.

And I usually always have one of my playlists going on in the background (I have a separate one of each of my different projects depending on the vibes). My current go to playlists are my Writing Motivation Playlist, which is just a bunch of upbeat songs I think are motivating, and my Superhero Playlist, which is themed after my current novel series WIP. Though, sometimes I'll put on a YouTube video about a topic I've already heard of in the background. If I can ignore it enough to write, great.

Tag game: favourite books

I stole this from Reddit and you know what, I don't see why I can't start a tag game myself.

Rules: name four of your favourite books, one comfort read, one non-fiction, one that changed your life, and one general favourite that didn't fit the other three categories. Comfort: Watership Down by Richard Adams (is it weird to have a comfort read that makes you cry if you read it all the way through? Maybe, yet here we are)

Non-fiction: King Leopold's Ghost by Adam Hochschild (extremely depressing)

Changed my life: The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie. That may seem like an odd choice, but I write myself and this book demonstrated "the rules are fake" so very thoroughly that, even though I had of course known this intellectually, it was like a whole new door of perception opened and I saw possibilities for my own writing that I had never imagined before.

General personal favourite: De Avonden/The Evenings by Gerard Reve. Or if you want something slightly less niche and depressing, Small Gods by Terry Pratchett (for the other three people who have read both of these: join me, brothers and sisters of wide ranging tastes!)
