Steve and Nat are the kind of friends that are so close and comfortable with one another that people often think that they're in a relationship. But as soon as someone comes up and asks, the person is immediately hit with:

"Oh, me and Steve? No, never. I deserve better."

"The feeling is mutual, Miss Romanoff."

"His morning breath is terrible, I'm want to send flowers to the poor soul stuck waking up next to that every morning for the rest of their life."

"And the person Natasha will wake up next to won't be able to focus on her breath because they're too sleep deprived from being kept up by her snoring."

Then Natasha pushes Steve into the closet thing next to them and they howl with laughter about it later.

Bucky Barnes was running down the street with a very tight metal muzzle digging badly into his face and was dented in a few place. Blood dripped down from his face his metal arm was missing except for the base the base was smashed into his shoulder and you can see blood dripping from that.

This Bucky had natural blue hair and look absolutely frightened he had a knife in a sheath his eyes were blank.

"Mhm help? Was bad hate muzzle." It mumbled out looking at Steve with wide eyes filled with fear he was winter right now

Steve reacts instantly, not even fully processing it. He just gets the muzzle off as gently as he’s able to, then starts handling the blood. “Hey, hey winter… I’ve got you”

Lately, Athena was always angry, she didn't know where it came from, but she felt it. And the moment she saw Steve? Oh she was just angrier, rageful even. How dare he show up here? After what he'd done?

She immediately walked up to him, ignoring the way he looked to be peacefully contemplating the new Avengers tower, and shoved him, hard. "What the fuck do you think you're doing? Showing up here after all that you did?" She snarled, teeth baring.

Steve flinched, and instantly whirled, not offensive but defensive, countering the shove with his weight and holding his arms to block any punches. Waiting to see.

“Pardon? Who are- what did I do? I’ll listen but I’m gonna need someone to fill me in..”

Athena took a step back, as if struck. "The fuck do you mean what did I do? You're stupid enough to forget about leaving my mom and me? Or did all that time travelling fuck with your mind" she argued, scowling.

She looked familiar, like one of the kids he used to know, one who'd disappeared a while ago. She had the same face, same eyes, not the same hair, but she always changed her hair. She looked... older, too.

“Hey- hey-? Athena- tell me, is that you kiddo?” The realization hits Steve, and he steps a little closer, lowering his arms. “Where- I haven’t seen you in years, you disappeared, I’ve been trying to find you- what happened?” He asks gently

"What the heck is wrong with you" she frowned, her anger simmering down. "You left me, what do you mean you've been looking for me?" She snapped, looking all the more angry

“I- the hell?” What did I do?” He asked, desperately trying to work things out, until pieces clicked into place. Of course. Damned multiverse. “Athena- kiddo… I think… I think you fell through universes?”

Athena stops. Like dead stops. Like a fox catching her eyes on prey. And for a whole minute, nothing moves. But then she shakes her head. "Can't be- I- no"

Steve softens. “Look… it’s happened before. And… your mom is still here, kiddo. I saw her a few hours ago”

"Stop!" She snapped, trying to wrap hwr head around it. "She's not. I watched her die two years ago. She died in my arms. Don't you dare lie to me" she hissed, baring her fangs

Steve pauses, nodding slowly. It hits him. Dammit. That brief- the one that was meant to be relevant in a few days… of course. Fuck. “The multiverse….” He murmurs, eyes widening. “Kiddo, I think… okay, we’re at the center of a multiverse fusion okay? Wrong universe. I’m in yours and you’re in mine. And that’s why it’s all so fuckin’ weird”

"Oh" she murmured, shoulders dropping with realisation. "Oh, that must've been what John was trying to tell me" she looked down, eyes wide. So... there was a version of her who still had her mother.

"You say- you say my mom is alive? And- and what about me? Who am I to you here?" She looked up, instantly questioning the logic. A universe where she was fine? It couldn't be. It had no right to.

“Kind of a pseudo niece?” He answered. “Not really defined, honestly. But you stopped by a lot, you and your wife. Visited all the time, calls me at all hours. Your ma and I weren’t together but she was like a sister to me, so I kind of put you there. But you had space and stayed over. Disappeared a few years ago and we still haven’t found you even though you’re alive”

"Iyla- iyla is alive too?" She whispered, taking a step towards him. Then the rest of his words registered. "And I ran from her?"

"In my home, you're my mom's husband. But you left after the blip, and you never came back. You went to put back the infinity stones and then... nothing" she explained.

Steve softened. “I… you guys disappeared together, at first we worried but assumed you were in Italy. But you were gone for so long…”

He listened, looking away. “Fuck me, then. And… here your mom is married to a different version of me, I’ve got a fiance and my own kids, really”

"That makes... more sense. I would've never left her willingly" she softened a bit, melancholy settling in her words.

"Yeah, I- we're all pissed at you. Bucky, Sam, and me... my mom died not long after. A villain attacked, she just... she died in my arms. I- I'll admit, I blame you for it. My version of you," she expmained, her melancholy replaced by her usual rage.

Steve nodded. “She was sick, the decay was hurting her. She wanted to try and fight it there, you went with her, your daughter too. Sh and her mom were fighting a lot, and she… she eventually chose peace. I think you were trying to get everything together for immortality but it wasn’t enough… that was the last time anyone saw you. She was… she was at peace, she loved you. You were with her, you kept her safe. She kept joking she hoped she’d sinned enough to find her way to hell”

“I would be too, I- in what fucking world… she’s not even my wife here and I can’t imagine- no. I’d fucking fight my own variant”

That hit Athena like a punch. Her breath hitched and she put a hand over her mouth. "I could've- I-" she let out a small breathless sob, like she was holding back her own tears. "Iyla died. From her sickness. You're telling me I could've saved her?"

"I'd stab him if he ever showed his face again, no hesitation. I would've stabbed you, but you looked... different. And I needed the fight first" she tries to joke

Steve softened. “No. Not really, that’s why she argues. She didn’t want to be trapped in her state forever- she was going to be hurt, she was in pain so often. She just wanted peace, and to leave with you and Ophelia in her arms. And she did, Athena. She left laying against you after a kiss, with her daughter held on her chest and Salem at her feet, everyone she loved around her. You gave her that, Athena. You helped her die happy, in her garden, with you holding her.”

“Understandable, and I’m not mad,” he chuckled. “I’d have done the same”

"Oh gods" she sobbed, crouching on the floor to not fully crumble. She felt the tears come bwfore the sadness swallowed her. How could she not be happy anywhere?

Steve softened. Surged forward to catch her, gentle. “Hey… hey, I’ve got you”

And for once, Athena didn't pull away from the armz that seemed to familiar to her.

Instantly, he hugged her tightly, stroking her hair and helping her into his arms, kneeling in the shadow of the tower. “Shhh… hey, it’s okay… let it out kiddo, I’ve got you… you’re safe..”

She just cried, sobbing something about losing iyla, and it being her fault, as well as everyone else's death.

Your ma and I weren’t together but she was like a sister to me, so I kind of put you there. But you had space and stayed over. Disappeared a few years ago and we still haven’t found you even though you’re alive”

"Iyla- iyla is alive too?" She whispered, taking a step towards him. Then the rest of his words registered. "And I ran from her?"

"In my home, you're my mom's husband. But you left after the blip, and you never came back. You went to put back the infinity stones and then... nothing" she explained.

Steve softened. “I… you guys disappeared together, at first we worried but assumed you were in Italy. But you were gone for so long…”

He listened, looking away. “Fuck me, then. And… here your mom is married to a different version of me, I’ve got a fiance and my own kids, really”

"That makes... more sense. I would've never left her willingly" she softened a bit, melancholy settling in her words.

"Yeah, I- we're all pissed at you. Bucky, Sam, and me... my mom died not long after. A villain attacked, she just... she died in my arms. I- I'll admit, I blame you for it. My version of you," she expmained, her melancholy replaced by her usual rage.

Sh and her mom were fighting a lot, and she… she eventually chose peace. I think you were trying to get everything together for immortality but it wasn’t enough… that was the last time anyone saw you. She was… she was at peace, she loved you. You were with her, you kept her safe. She kept joking she hoped she’d sinned enough to find her way to hell”

You helped her die happy, in her garden, with you holding her.”

“Understandable, and I’m not mad,” he chuckled. “I’d have done the same”

"Oh gods" she sobbed, crouching on the floor to not fully crumble. She felt the tears come bwfore the sadness swallowed her. How could she not be happy anywhere?

Lately, Athena was always angry, she didn't know where it came from, but she felt it. And the moment she saw Steve? Oh she was just angrier, rageful even. How dare he show up here? After what he'd done?

She immediately walked up to him, ignoring the way he looked to be peacefully contemplating the new Avengers tower, and shoved him, hard. "What the fuck do you think you're doing? Showing up here after all that you did?" She snarled, teeth baring.
