âget up, erol, and come with me.â
perhaps itâs unfair to give little to no warning as to when he intends on drawing someone up and out of camp, but the way joseph sees it, itâs good to keep them on their toes. thereâs a small window of time they have to do this, and while erol has no idea as to the intentions of his plans, joseph does.
theyâre going to rob a coach out on the plains, and he wants it to be a successful robbery at that. long fingers toy with the ends of his sleeves and the frayed fabric there, hat placed securely on his head, and new bandana tied around his throat. heâs got his rifle and his pistol, and that should be more than enough to get the job done, should things go to plan.
( thereâs always the should. the if. but you can never assume anything about how these sorts of things will go, compared to how you want them to. ) heâs never taken erol on a robbery before. at least, not one-on-one. but the manâs proven himself to be capable, in some way or another, and joseph thinks heâd like to see that sort of capability in action. he wonât put it out there so blatantly, but this will also serve as a decent test for the train robbery to come, to see if erol can handle the pressure.
more than anything else, joseph hopes to the lord above that he can, and heâs not a particularly religious man.
Figures it was when he finally gave himself over to the sound of the breeze, and relaxed long enough for him to drift into sleep, that a head would pop through the canvas flap to rouse him. He would not have had to sit up to know who that voice belonged to, and rather than take his time waking, Erol got right to it. To be asked something nicely was a rarity; even rarer was to have it happen twice in a row.Â
Stumbling into the light of the golden hour, he wrapped his holster around his waist. It wasnât often that he would go anywhere without a revolver at his side, but he knew if Joseph was calling for him heâd need it for sure..Â
âWhere are we going?â he asked, catching up to the Hound. Truth be told, the answer didnât mean much more than a direction. Heâd do just about anything for anyone in the group if it meant something good would come to him. More often than not, this meant a solid space in the team roster, and a lessening of the feeling that was out of place. That was fine enough for him.
