Early Thursday evening, my puppy Honey was hit by a car. The driver didn't stop, but thankfully, we found her within minutes. She is an indoor dog; she just happened to get out unsupervised for less than 2 minutes. We rushed her to the vet immediately, where they did an X-ray. She sustained multiple fractures and lacerations to her legs, and her pelvis has been completely pulverized. There was significant damage to her spinal cord, resulting in a spinal concussion as well. We were worried her bladder may have ruptured, but thankfully it remained intact. She is being kept over the weekend to ensure her stability, as well as to keep her on IV pain medication and antibiotics. Another X-ray will be done at that time, and hopefully she will be able to return home on oral medication and be placed into a crate healing time period of 6-8 weeks. We are so happy our little Honey Bun is alive and praying for a full recovery, though fractures like this in the pelvis have a high likelihood of resulting in neurological and motor function decreases. Unfortunately, no one is ever fully prepared for this kind of thing, and the vet bill is expected to well exceed our savings. My boyfriend is looking into opening a credit card to cover some of the costs, but any assistance would be very much appreciated to go towards the current and expected future vet costs for our baby to heal. Anything helps. We don't have an exact number yet since we are unsure of how many nights she will be spending at the vet, but we know it already exceeds what we have available. Thank you for your support.
