Project Star Wars

Ep3: Custom Doll of Luminara Unduli

@scribblesofshadow reckons the Star Wars fans might be interested in seeing my other Custom Star Wars Dolls projects I'm juggling at the moment so here's a few progress shots of Luminara, made from an Ashley (Mary-Kate and Ashley) fashion doll head on a Liv doll articulated body.

The top left is animated Luminara in the Clone Wars, and bottom left is a reference for what the doll would have originally looked like (I however don't have before photos of my specific doll). Her face was painted with acrylics and pastels, with Mr. Super Clear sealant in between layers. I won't be painting her body since her costume will cover everything, although I will just paint her hands either green like her skin or black for gloves - who knows.

I used a stretchy fleece fabric for her cropped hairstyle (I have no idea what her actual hair is meant to look like but I'm rolling with this😅) and glued it down with a craft super glue. The sewing pins held it in place while it cured.

And here she is with her paper mache headdress base cap drying in front of the wood heater because I'm impatient and hate waiting.

Anyway, that's Luminara's introduction. There's a bunch of other dolls that will gradually pop up here too so feel free to stick around till then.

Ep2: Custom Doll of CT-9902 //Tech//

Update: Tech is still unfinished, however he's looking more and more like himself every day.

Today I did painted the undercoat on his armour pieces, and hot glued on the elastic straps. He still needs bicep armour, knee pads and calf armour, plus his leather holster/tool belt.

Bonus: Tech has his own clone dolly, Mr. Sassy Pants (aka 3.75in AT-RT ARF Trooper)

Ep1: Custom Doll of CT-9902 //Tech//

Paper mache is my favourite...sculpting? material to use since it's so 'back-to-basics' and yet so versatile. So I'm using that method to create the armour and helmet for Tech from Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

He's currently covered in cling wrap and packing tape so the glue doesn't get all over his undersuit, so please excuse the ugly brown 😅 Anyway, I can't wait wait to start painting details on his helmet

My Poor, poor shoeless Barbies are Saved!!

So I'm gradually working my way through my Barbie and Fashion Doll portion of my collection, trying to purchase shoes and make outfits etc. And this 1964 Swirl Ponytail Midge is looking pretty damn good. She's wearing heels from AliExpress, and her slip dress, chiffon over-skirt, fishnets and necklace are all handmade by yours truly. All I need to do is style and boil her hair.

I also decided my childhood Barbie, 1979 Hispanic Barbie, needed a makeover as well. She's always had short hair for as long as I've had her (gotta love when cousins are aspiring hairstylists ✂️) so I figured there was no point in trying to restyle her to match her original look. Instead 'Mary' as I lovingly named her when I was little, also got new AliExpress heels with adorable little star charms, and a handmade outfit consisting of tailored pants with front splits, bustier and cape - plus jewellery/accessories. Although she has facial staining I think I'm going to leave it.

I've received a bunch of Barbie shoe orders now, so I'll keep working on my dolls and hopefully remember to post as I finish them.

Doll Stash Project #2

Wysteriah is all back together, with a fancy new neck-to-head connection (psst it uses a clothes button and bjd elastic, plus sueding). She also has her eyes popped back in, which really pulls together the whole purple look.

Doll Stash Project #2

Face-up stage: Complete

I had soooo much fun on Wysteriah's face. Because she is a porcelain doll, a lot of her original face paint and makeup was fired in and can't be removed with acetone, so after a light acetone clean I just spray Mr. Super Clear and paint a new face-up over the top. Her black eyelid crease and gloss coating on her lips came off easily with acetone though which really helped the process. So if you're wondering why she has quite pink flushed cheeks, it's because she already had them. The sealant does mute it with each coat sprayed though so it's less noticeable now than before.

Her head tattoo is a stylised wisteria (please don't judge, I've never seen or drawn wisteria before lol) and once the glue on her lashes dries I can re-fit her purple eyes. Will probably try and suede her neck before reassembling everything.

Doll Stash Project #2

This hybrid doll has kinda been floating around my collection for ages with no direction or purpose, so I figured I'd take a proper look at her and come up with a vague concept. Please ignore the cat stickers plastered over her body picture (trying to see if I can avoid the mature content Gods)

She's made up of a cheap plastic hinged bid style body, about 60-ish cm tall, and a porcelain doll head. I have 3 of these kinds of hybrids in my collection using these particular heads on various bodies so the head sculpt is kinda sentimental to me.

This is where my thought process went to while sketching for her. Also the name Wysteriah crossed my mind, since I've given her these gorgeous purple eyes I found at an opshop/thrift store. So fingers crossed I can make some progress on her today if I don't get caught up doing other crap 😂.

Doll Stash Project #1

The Sims alien doll's head has been reattached to her body, yayyy!!

I'm tossing up between making a wire headband with a 3D folded paper plumbob on top of it, or trying to find a green diamond-esque shaped bead for it instead. I'll focus on the clothes and face first, it'll give me time to figure out the plumbob.

Doll Stash Project #1

So...I'm turning an old Venus McFlytrap MH Doll into a 'Sims-style' alien...

Why, you ask? Well I counter with "Why not?"

Aliens have always been my ultimate favourite Sims, ever since playing as Lola Curious (Singles) in The Sims 2.

I just finished rerooting and glueing this dolls new black hair - I usually give my Alien Sims black hair. It just looks so striking. Next up will be her face-up featuring the iconic big black eyeballs, then I can work on outfit and accessories including a plumbob headband!
