Today as we remember the loss of the 4 little girls, please don’t forget the sister of Addie Mae Collins, Sarah Collins Rudolph, who survived the bombing. The 5th little girl.
Sarah was in the bathroom with Addie Mae when the bomb exploded in the 16th Street Baptist Church, in Birmingham, Alabama on that Sunday in 1963. She lost her right eye and was hospitalized for two months after the bombing, forcing her to miss her sister's funeral. 56 years later she is still paying doctor bills, resulting from her eye injury.
So, when you tell the story of the 4 little girls who were murdered by the KKK, to your children ... remember there was, indeed, a 5th little girl who not only survived the bombing, but is a carrier of history, recalling everything about that day. Unfortunate, some forget.
On this historic day, let’s lift Sarah Collins Rudolph and the families of the victims in prayer.
