Listen, the reason Katniss and Peeta work out and are OTP is because they balance each other out.

Katniss struggles with being vulnerable— Peeta thrives off of being vulnerable, especially to Katniss.

Katniss isn’t good with words— Peeta is amazing at using his words as weapons.

Peeta isn’t one for killing things— Katniss uses hunting as a means to survive.

Peeta is used to having a unhappy family life— Katniss knows what happiness from family is like and once had a full family of people who loved and supported her.

Chosing Peeta was not Katniss settling in any way. Katniss obviously never had a friendship (yes this includes Gale) where a lot of vulnerablity was layed on the table and constantly present.

With Gale, yes they shared sad memories and protected one another and each other’s families but Katniss was not raw with him like she was raw with Peeta. Katniss told Peeta about the horrors of her dreams and her fears and Peeta responded.

Peeta gave Katniss what was missing once her father died— stability and a future filled with hope.

Am I the only one who was like yeah "finnicks dead" to think he would just show up at the victors meeting and even when its said hes dead your still sure nope hes probably in the hospitals he will for sure show up at Snows execution. When he doesn't your like hes got a lot of damage prob still in hospital. Then its not until Katniss is back in 12 and has a breakdown and your like oh my god hes really dead and you start sobbing too....

I mentioned this before but I want it to have it’s own post:

YES Gale and Peeta both, at certain times, feel entitled and jerky about Katniss’s feelings and become jerks about her rebuffing them. This is absolutely true. 

THE DIFFERENCE is Peeta learns from this, and grows beyond it- apologizing and making changes to do what is right and respectful when it comes  to that in the future. He accepts his mistake, apologizes and truly works to be friends with her still. To the point he accepts Katniss having a life with another person and is ready to make the ultimate sacrifice for her to have that. 

Compared to Gale, who, up to the very last scene we have with him…is always somewhat bitter about it. Somewhat hurt about her not returning his feelings. Never really accepts any of it in a way that goes above just being angry and brooding.  

And THAT is the intention of this: to once again highlight the paths that Gale and Peeta represent symbolically. With Peeta, there is growth and betterment, where as Gale is bitterness and holding on to the past.

tbosas isn’t like the best book ever (personally I think it’s even pretty good) but when people criticize the book itself because “the actual Hunger Games were boring” and “everyone spent the whole Games hiding and that’s not entertaining” I’m just like 👁👄👁. Hunny the point of this series literally skyrocketed over your head huh? This also goes for people who say mockingjay isn’t interesting bc there’s no games. Where is the self awareness?

YES like they're intentionally underwhelming compared to katniss' games so if you're reading it thinking "huh these games are boring, there's no big fights or added drama" then you're supposed to be like oh damn that's the capitol's perspective why am I expecting to be entertained by children killing each other!! also it's so interesting how initially the games weren't even really enjoyed by the capitol and was more something to just get out the way but over 60 years they became desensitised to the horror until it became such a big shiny spectacle whilst the class divide became even bigger and the districts suffered even more until it was impossible to feel like it had ever not been like that or would ever change

revisiting the hunger games well and truly does fuck me up because guess what happened in the series? the government made class systems more prominent and filtered the money from the poor to the rich and divided the society up. they gave the poor people enough to barely keep them alive and said that they were doing everything for them. the people didn’t like that, so you know what they did? they rebelled. they built a revolution from the bottom up because it wasn’t fair. it wasn’t fair that some lives were worth more than others so they decided they wanted the government out. do you think they marched in peaceful protests and the Capitol was like “ah gosh darn, guess we have to leave them”? no. it was violent and brutal and people died but it worked. because that’s the only way that you can achieve true change. there has never, EVER been a single time in history where big, structural change was brought by peaceful protests, because the people in power are willing to do everything to hold on to their position. and it’s so ironic that when the hunger games came out, it was immensely successful and everyone supported the idea of overthrowing the government if they treated their citizens unfairly, yet somehow some of the people who supported this series have refused to show their support for the black lives matter movement, which is the EXACT same thing. black people have been murdered and treated as expendable creatures and no matter how many peaceful rallies were held, the government refused to see them as human beings. and if any of you think that we’re going to achieve justice by sitting quietly and signing petitions, then maybe you need to go back and read this series because there’s a lot you have to learn.

Super gross that the last death with Kato lasts literally hours and they just sit there and wait. But in the movie it's over instantly.
