Character development
Tell me horikoshi forgot about the traitor storyline without telling me that horikoshi forgot about the traitor storyline.
don't you love when togaocha
Bakugou: Ugh, there’s always that weak bitch in the group who isn’t down with murder.
Bakugou: *glares at Midoriya*
Horikoshi can't write women
Bold claim, maybe, but I think it needs to be said. The female characters in mha are very poorly written. I can't think of one I'd actually consider to be WELL written.
And when I say this, people go
"b-b-but what about Eri!! Lady Nagant!! Uraraka!!"
Being interesting doesn't equate to being well written. Eri was a plot device so that Mirio could lose then regain his quirk, Lady Nagant got overhyped just to immediately get her ass beaten then get saved by the same group of men we've been following for the last hundred or so fucking chapters.
And Uraraka? Uraraka's the worst of all because she's the MAIN GIRL. She SHOULD be well written.
And whilst I think her recent speech and her interaction with Toga were alright, do they make up for the fact that she just does nothing for long periods of time, then gets thrown in to be interesting for a short period, then shuts up again? No.
It needs to be acknowledged that Horikoshi's women are poorly written, not just oversexualised, because the two factors aren't necessarily connected. You can have a sexualised character with good writing, but that's not what we have.
And it goes without saying you can still like the female characters and enjoy what precious little we have of Hori's female characters being great, but this is only becoming an increasing problem going forward.
Star and Stripe? Zero faith that she'll be well written, I'm calling it now that she won't be. Especially since Shigaraki will more than likely beat her ass, or at the very least engage her in a meaningless fight that ends with his escape.
Even the war arc is poor in its presentation of the female characters. Don't get me wrong, as a Mineta fan the students' segment was great. We got him being cute, showing bravery against Gigantomachia, having a touching moment with Mina and later being the first to show genuine emotion when questioning if they had completely fucked up.
And I honestly can't say that Momo or Mina, the two girls at the center of that segment of the battle, got that same treatment.
Mina did alright, but really she acted in a way we've all seen her do before. It added next to nothing, then Kirishima completed her goal.
And we saw some good leadership and emotion from Momo, but the way it was introduced didn't feel earned because Horikoshi didn't set up that connection between Midnight and the kids. This is coming from a Vigilantes reader, who was especially sad about Midnight's death because of her prominence in the spinoff series, but her specific relationship with the students just wasn't clear enough outside of her being a generic mentor character. Once again, an interesting female character of Horikoshi's getting defeated easily for the sake of a plot point.
I don't see it getting better anytime soon, and that's the worst part. Because how the hell will Horikoshi ever write the women in this series well if people like Lady Nagant, probably the most interesting character we'd seen for a while, get the Plot Device treatment?

Toga: I'm a reverse necromancer.
Uraraka: Isn't that just killing people?
Toga: Ah, technicality.
*Midoriya and Bakugou skipping stones on lake*
Midoriya: It’s such a beautiful evening.
Bakugou, whispering: Take that you fucking lake
Toga: You kill people for money?!
Uraraka: I can explain!
Toga: And all this time I’ve been doing it for free like a chump!
girlzzzz
Just wait till horikoshi makes all the UA girls rescue heroes
Torn between wanting shigaraki to instantly win every battle and wanting at least one female character to be as powerful as the male characters
Uraraka: Don’t kill me, I have a girlfriend
Shigaraki: You think I care about that?
Uraraka: No, this isn’t a plea for mercy. It’s a warning.
Shigaraki: Wha-
Toga: [kicking down the door] ARE YOU READY TO DIE?!
Bakugou: I don’t think we can mansplain manipulate malewife our way out of this
Midoriya: *forebodingly cracks knuckles* Manslaughter it is then.
Bakugou: Deku no-
Deku: So apparently the 'bad vibes' I’ve been feeling are actually severe psychological distress
