Waterboy with his self-assignment skill reminds me of those coworkers with a work ethic where if they aren’t constantly busying themselves they’ll genuinely start to lose their mind and be seen doing menial almost pointless tasks to avoid standing around. I can see him using work as an outlet for stress especially with manual labor like cleaning / using it as an excuse to outrun intrusive thoughts. His attempts to latch onto calls aren’t just to prove himself, it’s because if he’s benched for too long his anxiety starts to spike and he can’t be left alone with a mind like his without distraction
