“You just ruined all of my hopes and dreams! I can’t believe you’d hurt me like that.” Mina joked. “You know, I like that apart from the idea that I then have to be responsible too.”
“Oh no we got him in a diaper. He just hated it. I’m sure my parents have photos if you really want to see it.” He chuckled. “I feel like America and Americans do whatever they want. But hey what do I know I’ve only been here a month or two.”
“I’m seriously just picturing a duck with a diaper on and I don’t know how I feel about that.” Mina joked, laughing. “I could definitely hear the Irish accent and judging by how strong it is, figured it wasn’t long. I’m Canadian so I’m technically classified in the same category.”
“No, Alfred was deeply apposed to wearing diaper. I gave him a bell to ring whenever he had to go to the bathroom. It was a complicated process.” Duck continued to laugh. “Yeah, I’ve lived there all my life so I don’t think it’s going away. Canada is life America’s responsible older sibling. “
“Please, I would have killed people if I was in Greek Society.” Violet replied. “I’ve just worked enough frat parties to know enough about them.” She actually answered the question. “Aw, you know I’d never do that to you, Duckie.”
“I don’t know Vi, you seem to be perfectly on type, and you’re a really big advocate of them.” He teased before quirking a brow. “What do you mean by you’ve worked them?” Letting out a sign he smiled. “Good to know because I would be heart broken without you.
To Yasmine’s own surprise, she’d been making fast friends at Monarch. Austyn happened to be in the circle of people she was closer to, so when he agreed to spend time with her she was happy to come over. She grinned at his greeting. “Hi, Duck,” Yasmine reciprocated. “Hopefully I’m not interrupting anything.”
Duck had been sitting at home, the senior he’d lived with had gone to bed which meant that he’d have the house to himself. “Yes, I was so busy watching this show on netflix by myself.” He groaned, opening the door he let Yasmine into his apartment which was well above the means of a college student. “Make yourself at home, and I can pop some popcorn for you.”
Hannah tried not to show any reaction to his words, as she knew that was exactly what he was looking for. He moved away from her but, she certainly wasn’t going to let him have the last word. “If you could do it all again, I’d gladly accept you going after my sister. It’d save me the energy I had to spend faking orgasms and pretending I wasn’t fucking other guys behind your back.”
Austyn knew he’d caught her. Hannah was one to always go with the low blow, but when she was caught that was she’d throw the nasty punches. Taking his tea from the bar he offered the blonde a smile as he walked away. “I hope your classes go well Hannah.”
“You know why you’re feeding into me?” She stepped closer to him, smirk on her face. “You can’t resist me,” Hannah whispered to him before moving back. “A house wife? It’s like you don’t know me at all. I’m never getting married. Unless it’s for money. In which case, I’d definitely be screwing the pool boy. Only if he was hot though.”
His lips formed a pout, when she stepped away Duck stepped beside he learning into her ear. “You weren’t even a good lay. If I could do it again I would have gone for your sister.” Taking a step back he turned his attention to the person behind the counter to order his drink.Â
“If that’s the way you felt, why the hell would you have proposed? Nice try, Austyn. You’re not fooling anyone,” she laughed bitterly at him. “And I’m not? We’re both here studying. How does that make me out to be doing anything less productive with my life than you?”
“Well you were pregnant and I was ignorantly in love with you. I don’t even know why I’m even feeding into you.” Letting out a huff Duck turned to walk away before he realized he had yet to get his coffee. “Because I’ll do something with me life. You’re just gonna be a shitty house wife who harasses the maid and screws the pool boy.”
“Oh get over it. It’s been two years. I know losing me must be tragic but, at this point, you whining over it is just plain pathetic,” Hannah commented. “Yeah. I miss you buying me things. And paying the rent in our apartment. And going down on me when I was desperate but, other than that? Not much to miss, babes,” the blonde shrugged. “Better idea: you pack up your Lucky Charms and follow the rainbow back to Ireland.”
“You’re right Hannah I’m the pathetic one.” He said rolling his eyes. “Oh yeah i missed out on the opportunity to take care of two children instead of just one. Big lost on my part.” Austyn shrugged it off. “Too bad for you I’m in the Masters program here. At least I’m doing something productive with my life.”
“You’re asking the wrong person because I’m heavily biased, I’m a sucker for an Irish accent”, Arden told him. After all, her ex-boyfriend had an Irish accent and despite how their relationship had ended, she would always have a soft spot for him. “How long ago did you move to America?”
“Are you a sucker for any accent or Irish in particular? “ Austyn asked combing his fingers through his hair. At this point he’d assumed everyone just enjoyed hearing someone foreign . “I’ve been here for a bit over a month. What about you? Not America but this school.”
“There’s traditional ones which are in the middle of that.” Violet added an option but still laughed anyway. “Does that mean I have to spend more time with you? The horror!”
“Are you in a frat? You seem to really like them?” Duck teased laughing softly. “Only until I pick up your accent, after that you can dump my butt on the side of the road.”
“Are people really struggling to understand you?” Lola questioned, surprised that he was struggling with that when she wasn’t having that issue herself. “I’m biased because I happen to like Irish accents but I wouldn’t be trying to change it”.
“Yeah when I get excited the accent really comes out and I tend to speak a bit fast.” Austyn was understanding but that didn’t make it any less frustrating. “Everyone here seems to like the accent. It’s going to take me a while to change it, so there’s not much I can do about it now. Anyways who cares about my bloody accent. How’s your day going?”
“I personally like the accent, it’s cute. It also sets you apart from basically everyone else on this campus so I wouldn’t be trying to change it”.
“Thank you, I guess on the upside the ladies find it attractive. Are you Irish by chance? I’m only asking because of the red hair?”
The nights were often slow for Austyn, homework, netflix, and cooking dinner. It had taken a deal of time to make the few friends, to his luck he’d met Yasmine. Hanging out with her had become a highlight of his week. Per Yasmine’s request Duck ran to the store returning with the popcorn and a few hard ciders. Hearing a knock on the door his face lit up, “Hey there stranger.”

“Bet Alfred was keeping you up constantly with quacking after that!” Mina joked. “Second year. Had a gap year before coming here. He’s definitely one of the best.” She added. “Definitely and even better when you can do more with the footage or learn a new way to do something with it.”
“Alfred woke up at 5 am so there were a lot of mornings I wanted to fight him. also it’s really hard potty training a duck.” He added making a face. “I’m an international grad student. It’s my first year here but I’ve heard a lot of good things about him. I like putting it all together and watching everyone’s hard work pay off.”
“So I see that you’re still salty that your dick wasn’t good enough for the rest of my life,” she rolled her eyes at him. “Why don’t you stop running your mouth about shit that’s none of your business, hm?”
“Because that’s the worst thing you’ve done to me.” Letting out a huff Austyn shook his head. “You’re not even worth the anger. We both know you broke my heart. I think even if you'll never admit it you miss me too. Since we are both here how about we stay out of each others ways.” It was unlikely Hannah would be okay with coexisting.Â
“Not for a second but I’d try it.” Mina laughed. “That sounds absolutely adorable. Did you just kinda sit with this duck saying quack over and over again?” The brunette asked. “I love it. I was wanting to do this kind of thing for so long and now I finally get to do it.”
“That’s fair. I’d try it too.” Austyn chuckled. “It was pretty cute. I’m not going to lie. Well I would show him videos of other ducks, quack around him, and we lived on water so he interacted with ducks. After a bit he got it. Once he got it I regretted teaching him.” He answered. “What year are you? He’s a great professor. I started filming stuff when I was a kid, but it’s nice when you start to actually know your shit.”
“Welcome.” She returned. “There’s academic frats for brainiacs too you know.” Violet couldn’t believe she was sticking up for a part of Greek society.
“So my two options are nerd or complete dumb ass?” He joked. “I’ll just stick around you and I’ll see what I catch on from you.”
