In the late 70’s – early 80’s there was a popular children’s television programme on the BBC called, to give it its full name,  the ‘Multi Coloured Swop Shop’, though everyone usually just called it the ‘Swop Shop’ the main presenter was Noel Edmonds and it also included Keith Chegwin, John Craven and Maggie Philbin. What a challange the life of Joseph presents to us today. Being sold into slavery by his brothers, nevertheless he served his new ‘owner’, Potiphar so well that he was put in charge of the household. Has the state recognised its failure in relation to families?

Currently at the time of writing there is an advertisement running on television by the Department of Education in Northern Ireland and is titled ‘Get Involved’. The essence of the advertisement encourages parents, grandparents and other family members to get involved with the education of children and it rightly suggests that a child’s education will be boosted by this involvement.
