#this was the absolute most perfect way to resolve the championship run#it’s too boring if they win but there needs to be an emotional victory in losing#and this is such a perfect well-earned choice to achieve that#and really puts forth the idea that Greta and Jo are not just the Mae-Doris pair but also the Dottie-Kit pair#the perfect banter-duo-package-deal is not only given a backstory that made it more meaningful#but also development that fractures the dynamic a little bit because of course there are difficulties when you only have one person#Greta and Jo only have each other and the same resentment that was the conflict for Dottie and Kit becomes a similar conflict here#each of them is finding new parts of themselves in this new environment and it’s beautiful for all the identity/sense of purpose reasons#but also painful because it’s naturally pulling them away from each other#and revealing that Greta is emotionally dependent on Jo in a way that perhaps is not quite mutual in the same way or same extent#and Jo loves Greta but it’s not fair for her to have that burden#and with Greta’s guilt from the arrest and Jo’s refusal to run away with Greta like always it makes this moment all the more earned#because even though they will probably never be the duo they once were#it’s clear there’s still so much love there and their love will endure whatever changes they’re going through#perfectly encapsulated in this moment where Greta rushes to Jo’s side when she’s knocked down#and drops any lingering tension to help her be the hero (which she did on her own without Greta at all)#an absolution for Carson and Greta who couldn’t save Jo at the bar#and the reminder that Greta and Jo’s old dynamic has endured for a reason#with Greta cracking jokes about their past shenanigans to get Jo laughing through the tears#that’s how Greta and Jo have survived this whole time.#and that still has so much value even if they’re outgrowing it#‘I love you Joey’#the whole thing is so layered and perfect and meaningful and I love everything about it @drshebloggo
To be honest, I think I just wanted a big dramatic moment so that I wouldn’t feel sad. Because goodbyes are inherently sad. They mean that something’s ending. And this one is especially sad because what we had was so great. But it’s not all sad, right? We’re moving on to things that we love. And we’ll always have the memories of our times together. I say we hang out, have a drink, and enjoy all of us being together one last time. To the squad.
