remember in p.e. when they'd take a bunch of insecure teenagers & be like "today we're going to play basketball" and then not teach you how to play basketball. and then put you in a group with guys who were obsessed with basketball and would get mad at you for not knowing how to play basketball. why did they do that
I was just talking to someone about this the other day. I've never been in a public school, but where's the education in physical education in the US? At what point do you learn proper running form? What part of the curriculum contains how to properly recover your muscles from exercise? No one I know who has been through P.E. has ever touched on those topics in the US, although I can't properly speak on it. Online schooling classes never touched on it either.
I'm chronically ill, disabled, and have conditions that affect my pain and joints. I also run short races, and can sometimes do so without pain afterwards because I learned how to "wind down" on my own. Slowly decreasing speed, massaging the area right away, warm showers, icing it before it becomes a problem, practicing basic self care after I run. I managed three days at a convention with 20k steps on day 1, and about 12k on the other two days, and managed fine after besides the extreme fatigue afterwards from my conditions.
At what point in education do we start educating kids on how to be active in a healthy and safe way instead of just doing laps or playing sports?
