70s Vintage Day

I decided to put a little 70s vibe into my outfit today.  I wore a pair of JustUSA jeans (they are super stretchy, basically jeggings), Anne Klein wedge boots (great for walking to work...I walk three miles to work every day!), a long-sleeve Victoria's Secret tee, and last but not least, an authentic suede cropped vest, which I got ages ago at some vintage store.  I decided to go a little more 70s with gold feather earrings.

TFNC Asos Red Cocktail Dress

Christmas time!  Since Christmas is about family and not tackiness, the tacky girl must stay away from cleavage and try to class it up just a little bit.  I also avoided any crazy jewelry--just some pretty black diamond studs.

I wore this dress (It was actually a Christmas present that I requested!).  It's a TFNC red cocktail dress that I found on ASOS.com.  Here it is on the model:

And here it is on me!

The shoes are some pretty old brown satin pumps from the brand, Glint, which I wore to a wedding three years ago with a gold Nicole Miller dress.  I didn't think I'd wear them again, but they seem to be making a resurgence!

However, in true tacky girl fashion, I wore this on my nails (10 Professional Nail Lacquer in Old Hollywood underneath Sally Hansen Golden Ticket).  After all, you can't have a tacky Christmas without glitter.

The Best Boots Ever

I'm a boot girl.  When in doubt I wear boots, mostly because in my experience, they're more comfortable than pumps or heels, but just as sexy (if you're doing it right).  Plus, they can be pretty interesting, and I like my shoes to make a statement.

So I recently got these amazing boots from Jeffrey Campbell.  Thus far I haven't worn them, but they are absolutely fantastic.  I tried them on, and it's basically like you're wearing flats, given that the arch isn't too high.  But the boots themselves make you 5-6 inches taller.  And as a 5'5" chick in a family full of 6 foot tall goddesses and gods, I've always enjoyed wearing sky high  heels.

Guess Bandage Dress

So let's move away from black today.  A while back I bought a bandage dress from Guess.  This is one of my tackiest moments and one I'm very proud of.

So basically, this dress is like a push up bra and Spanx all in one.  Unlike other bandage dresses which, if fit correctly, push you down and create the need for a steel bra, this one actually supports like a bra. Not sure how it does that, but it's amazing.

I find this dress is best paired with a blazer or leather jacket if you think you might go somewhere casual before going to a club or somewhere more appropriate for a bandage dress.  Of course I'm all for being overdressed, but sometimes the "who does she think she is" thing can get a little annoying and just for your own sake, it's best to cover up a bit.

My one regret about this dress was pairing it with those Prada shoes (before anyone says anything, they are really my only pair of high end shoes and they were a gift from my mom). I think the style of the shoes, while awesome in my opinion, clashes with the dress a bit--this dress would be better with some sleeker platforms or a more modern shoe.  We all have room to learn, after all!

The American Apparel Gloria Bodysuit

A few months ago, the "gloria body suit" seemed to be all the rage.  Don't know what that is?  It's basically a leotard with see-through mesh down the center.  Needless to say, as tacky as I like to be, this cannot be worn alone. 

I decided to wear it under a bandage skirt from Wet Seal (see? I told you this would be cringe-worthy for classy folks) and some gold and black stiletto heels from ASOS. 

I think this outfit could verge on too tacky even for me, if it wasn't paired with black tights.  I really love black tights in general because they slim the legs, and it really eliminates that "I'm-so-cold-let's-take-a-cab" feeling.  Because I can't really afford cabs just to go down the street.

And it should go without saying that this is a "going out" outfit for nightlife, not a cute little number to wear to work.

The Tacky Girl's Manifesto

All my life, I've been criticized for dressing in a "tacky" way.  Instead of fighting this, it's become my identity.  And thus, the eight points of the tacky girl's manifesto:

1.) Always colors over black.  Black is fine, but when in doubt, choose colors.

2.) Dress for men, not women.  And more than anything dress for yourself.

3.) When in doubt, dresses over pants.

4.) Leggings can be pants. Just make sure you're wearing a thong.

5.) The higher the heel, the better.

6.) Dress for your body type, not for what's in style.

7.) A good bargain is always better than a splurge. Brag about how little you spend on clothing.

8.) Always be overdressed.  Never be underdressed.  If people stare at you, then you're doing something right.
