For kicks and giggles, I've been dreaming of a Lightsaber like effect in UDK using cylinder for the blade and then maybe using some clever material manipulation for the colored glow effect. I figure the emissive channel in the material editor holds the key to this effect but for the life of me, I can't seem to figure out how to even get started. If this is the case I remember seeing how the Emissive channel can be set to actually emit light which would make the effect all the more cool if
Glowing Textures? Q&A
Glowing Textures? Q&A
Hey guys, i was wondering if anyone knew how to make glowing animated textures?,if its possible, or close enough how to attach particles to characters? smoke or fire irradiating from the body, something like that.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Glowing is possible, the material slot for that is called Emissive. Link up a map with glow parts to that. You can set up a chain of nodes to apply animation just like any other so you can have the glowy parts animate, like to pan and distort, etc. With particles, you can attach a system to your character using Kismet and use the Attachment action. Then you can toggle the system on and off however you want. I think with scripting it’s maybe a more permanent solution but I don’t script and I think that’s more like if it’s a game wide effect that can happen any time anywhere and to anyone.. you know?. If this is the case them scripting will be needed. If it’s something permanent on your character, or more level specific, you can still do it with Kismet. You can get away with a lot through Kismet.

What this Blog is for
It is only for posting tutorials and any other interesting bits I find related to UDK or the creation of video games. It will mostly revolve around UDK since that's what I plan to use. This is for my own benefit because I am just starting out, but it if helps anyone else as well, that's just awesome. :) If you have any tutorials or suggestions, send them my way.
